Overview

The Salus Controls RT305TX is a digital room thermostat designed for RF heating applications, offering a stylish and accurate solution for controlling your home's heating system. This thermostat operates by sensing the air temperature and switching the heating on when the temperature falls below the set point, and off once the set temperature is reached. Unlike traditional single-unit thermostats, the RT305TX separates operational functions into two units: the thermostat itself, which provides the user interface and temperature sensing/control, and a receiver, which handles wiring connections and heat on/off control. The two units communicate wirelessly via a Radio Frequency (RF) signal operating at 868 MHz.

Function Description:

The RT305TX acts as a transmitter, allowing wireless control of a heating system without a physical connection between the thermostat and the boiler. It is suitable for use with electric, gas, or oil heating control systems. The thermostat's primary function is to maintain a desired room temperature by intelligently switching the heating system on and off.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: RT305TX
  • Type: Digital thermostat for RF heating applications
  • Frequency: 868 MHz
  • Temperature Scale: Celsius
  • Temperature Range: 5 °C to 35 °C
  • Temperature Resolution: 0.5 °C
  • Temperature Tolerance: Less than ± 0.5 °C at 25 °C
  • Display Range: 5.0 °C to 45.0 °C
  • Display Resolution: 0.5 °C
  • Frost Protection Setting: 5 °C
  • Setpoint Temperature Range: 5 °C to 35 °C
  • Power Source: 2 x AA alkaline batteries (rechargeable batteries should not be used)
  • Operating Temperature: 0 °C to + 40 °C
  • Storage Temperature: -20 °C to + 60 °C
  • EC Directives Compliance: Electro-Magnetic Compatibility directive 2004/108/EC, Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EEC, EC Marking directive 93/68/EEC.

Usage Features:

  • User-Friendly Interface: The thermostat features a large, easy-to-read Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) with a blue backlight, providing clear indications of the current room temperature and heating system status. It has a minimal number of user controls for intuitive operation.
  • Temperature Setting: Users can easily review and change the set point temperature using the UP and DOWN keys. The set point temperature will flash to indicate it can be changed, with adjustments made in 0.5°C steps. If no keys are pressed for more than four seconds, the thermostat returns to Normal mode.
  • Frost Protection: To prevent freezing, the RT305TX includes a Frost Protection mode. This mode can be activated by pressing and holding the BACKLIGHT / FROST button for three seconds. Once enabled, the set point temperature automatically sets to 5°C. A flashing Frost Protection indicator confirms activation. This feature acts as an additional protection and should not replace a correctly installed frost thermostat.
  • Backlight: The LCD backlight automatically illuminates for approximately 5 seconds whenever any key is pressed. During set point temperature changes, the backlight remains illuminated throughout the process. The backlight will not illuminate if the battery is low.
  • Sleep Mode: To conserve battery power, the RT305TX can be put into SLEEP mode by pressing both the UP and DOWN keys simultaneously. In this mode, the LCD display will be blank, and all thermostat functions will be paused. Pressing any key will wake up the device and cancel SLEEP mode.
  • Temperature Display Outside Operating Range: Temperatures below 10 °C are displayed without a leading '0'. Temperatures exceeding the measurable range are indicated by 'HI' (above upper limit) and 'LO' (below lower limit).
  • RF Communication Setup: The RT305TX can be paired with various Salus receivers (RXRT505, RXVBC605, RXWBC605, RXBC605 & RXST625). For RXRT505, pairing is automatic upon receiver power-on. For other receivers, a learning mode is entered by holding the FROST key for 6 seconds (displaying SY9), then pressing the sync button on the receiver.
  • RF Transmission Testing: A simple procedure allows users to test the RF transmission by adjusting the set point temperature and observing the burner on/off indicator on the thermostat and the green LED on the receiver.
  • Installation Flexibility: The RT305TX can be used in any convenient location with its included stand or permanently installed using the supplied back plate. No wiring is needed for the thermostat itself, as it communicates wirelessly. The ideal mounting position is about 1.5m above floor level, in an accessible, well-lit area, away from extreme temperatures, draughts, outside walls, radiators, direct sunlight, and sources of RF interference.

Maintenance Features:

  • Low Battery Warning: The RT305TX frequently checks battery voltage. When the voltage drops (around 2.6V), a low battery indicator will appear on the screen. While the thermostat will continue to operate, it is recommended to replace the batteries as soon as possible to avoid operational issues.
  • Cleaning: The electronic thermostat requires no special maintenance. The outer casing can be cleaned with a dry cloth. Solvents, polishes, detergents, or abrasive cleaners should not be used as they can damage the thermostat.
  • Troubleshooting: In case of malfunction, users should check if the batteries are correct and not exhausted, if the heating system and receiver are switched on, and if the RT305TX is still not functioning, press the reset button.
  • Warranty: Salus Controls provides a two-year warranty from the date of purchase, covering defects in materials or workmanship. The company's sole liability for breach of warranty is to repair or replace the defective product.
  • No User Serviceable Parts: The unit contains no user-serviceable parts; any servicing or repairs should only be carried out by Salus Controls or their appointed agents.
