Overview

The SANITOP is a macerating pump system designed for domestic use, specifically for pumping away waste from a WC and other sanitary appliances. It is manufactured in a factory quality certified to ISO 9001 (2000) accredited by AFAQ, ensuring consistent and reliable service when installed and used correctly.

Function Description:

The core function of the SANITOP unit is to macerate (grind) faecal matter and toilet paper from a WC, and then pump this waste, along with wastewater from other connected sanitary appliances, through a discharge pipe to the soil stack. The macerating system is housed in a case specifically designed for horizontal outlet spigots. The unit operates automatically as soon as the required level of water enters its case.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Dimensions: The unit has overall measurements of approximately 217mm (width) x 275mm (height) x 330mm (depth).
  • Electrical Supply: It requires a 220/240V single-phase AC 50 Hz supply (UK specification). It must be wired into a fused, unswitched, fixed wiring connector fitted with a 5 amp fuse. The unit has an earth wire, with wiring colours: Brown - Live, Blue - Neutral, Green/Yellow - Earth.
  • Power: 550 W.
  • Current: 2.9A.
  • Protection Rating: IP44.
  • Weight: 5.4 KG.
  • Discharge Pipe Size: The discharge pipe size for SANITOP can be 22mm or 32mm.
  • Performance: The unit can achieve a maximum vertical lift of 5m and a maximum horizontal discharge length of 20m (with a 1% fall) or 90m (with a 1% fall and 1m vertical lift).
  • Norms: This appliance conforms to EN 12050-3 and European directives and standards concerning electrical safety and electromagnetic compatibility.
  • Soundproofing: The unit incorporates the latest technological innovations concerning soundproofing. To benefit fully, the WC pan should not be in contact with a partition or wall, and it should be placed on a perfectly level surface to ensure the resilient mounts are fully efficient.

Usage Features:

  • WC Connection: The unit connects to a WC pan with a horizontal outlet spigot conforming to EN33 or EN 37. Installation involves applying silicon or liquid soap to the WC spigot, fitting a collar on the bowl outlet, pulling a flexible sleeve over the pan spigot, and securing it with a metal hose clip. The unit is then fixed to the floor using supplied screws.
  • Extra Sanitary Appliances: The SANITOP can connect to other sanitary appliances, with specific connections required as detailed in the manual.
  • Discharge Pipework: Discharge pipework must have a minimum fall of 1:100 (10mm per metre) to the soil stack. If a vertical lift is required, it must be made before the horizontal run. A drain-off point is recommended to allow pipework to be drained before service. An air admittance valve (BBA approved) capable of withstanding 10psi pressure should be fitted at the high point if the discharge pipework runs considerably lower than the unit, to prevent siphoning. External pipework should be lagged to prevent freezing. The discharge pipework must connect to the soil stack using an appropriate strap-on boss. Smooth bends (or 2 x 45 degree bends) should be used instead of 90-degree elbows. Any elbow on the discharge pipe creates friction loss, roughly 50cm per elbow to be deducted from the vertical pumping specification.
  • Accessibility: The unit and all its connections should be easily accessible for possible maintenance/removal.
  • Limitations: Only toilet paper, faecal matter, and wastewater are covered under guarantee. Damage due to foreign bodies (cotton, condoms, sanitary towels, wet wipes, food, hair, metal, wood, plastic objects) or chemicals (solvents, acids, other chemicals) will invalidate the guarantee.
  • Warning: There should be no water dripping from the WC cistern or any other sanitary appliances, as this will cause the unit to activate repeatedly.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: The unit requires minimum maintenance. It is fitted with an active carbon filter, which requires no external venting but needs to be changed every year.
  • Cleaning/Descaling: To remove scale and clean the macerator and bowl, a household descalent (like SANIFLO descaler) or household disinfectants/bleaches designed for a normal WC can be used.
    1. Disconnect the macerator power supply.
    2. Pour descalent/bleach into the pan.
    3. Flush the WC once.
    4. Leave to stand for 1-2 hours.
    5. Reconnect the macerator power supply.
    6. Rinse by operating the flushing system twice. This operation should be carried out approximately every 3 months, with frequency adjusted based on water hardness.
  • Troubleshooting: A fault-finding chart is provided for minor inconsistencies in operation. In all cases, the macerator must be disconnected from the power supply before any service. All work involving dismantling the appliance must be carried out by an approved repair agent.
  • Removal: For removal, disconnect the electrical power supply, turn off water feed to the WC cistern and bail out water, drain vertical discharge pipework and remove the discharge hose, disconnect inlet pipes, unscrew fastening screws (if fitted), loosen the metal clip securing the flexible connector, and pull off the WC spigot to slide the unit out.
  • Guarantee: The unit comes with a 2-year guarantee from the date of purchase, subject to correct installation and use.
