Do you have a question about the Sauer Danfoss DP200 Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Sauer-Danfoss DP200 Series Graphical Terminals are a line of PLUS+1™ compliant graphical displays designed for use in mobile machines. These terminals provide a cost-effective, high-quality solution for displaying information and interacting with machine systems.

Function Description:

The DP200 Series terminals serve as a human-machine interface (HMI) for various mobile machine applications. They are capable of displaying high-resolution grayscale LCD graphics, allowing operators to monitor machine parameters, view diagnostic information, and interact with the control system through programmable soft keys. The terminals feature multiple communication ports, including CAN 2.0B and USB 2.0, enabling seamless integration with other machine components and external devices. They also incorporate digital and analog inputs/outputs for direct connection to sensors and actuators. A real-time clock ensures accurate timekeeping for data logging and event recording. Specific models offer additional functionalities such as J1939 engine monitor software, data logging capabilities, and extended temperature performance ranges.

Important Technical Specifications:

The DP200 Series terminals are built around an ARM 7 core processor operating at 32-bit/60 MHz. They come with 64KB on-chip RAM and 512KB of RAM on board, along with 16KB of FRAM. Power is supplied within a range of 9-63 Vdc, consuming 6.5 Watts. Connectivity is provided via a Deutsch DTM-12 connector. The display is an LCD with 32 grayscale levels, offering a resolution of 160 x 240 pixels. The viewable area measures 80 mm x 55 mm [3.15 x 2.16 in].

The terminals boast an IP67 rating, indicating high protection against dust and water ingress, making them suitable for harsh mobile environments. They are designed to operate within a wide temperature range:

  • Code C00: -20 °C to +70 °C [-4 °F to +158 °F]
  • Code C01: -40 °C to +85 °C [-40 °F to +176 °F]

Storage temperature is specified as -40 °C to +85 °C [-40 °F to +176 °F]. The weight of the unit is 250 g [0.5 lb]. They are robustly built to withstand vibration and shock, rated at 5g and 100g respectively. EMC/ESD protection is provided up to 100V/m and 15KV. The terminals include one digital output with a 0.5A rating.

The DP200 series offers various configurations, including models with 1MB or 2MB of flash memory, with or without an application key, and with 0MB or 4MB of application log memory. USB port types include "None" or "USB Device."

Usage Features:

The DP200 Series terminals are designed for ease of use and integration. Key features include:

  • High resolution grayscale LCD display: Provides clear and readable information to the operator.
  • 4 programmable soft keys: Allow for customizable user interaction and navigation through menus and functions.
  • 2 red, 2 green software controlled LEDs: Provide visual feedback on system status or alerts.
  • 2 CAN 2.0B ports: Enable communication with other CAN-enabled devices on the machine network.
  • 1 fixed-range analog input: For connecting to analog sensors.
  • 4 digital/analog inputs: Versatile inputs for various sensor types.
  • 2 digital/analog/frequency/current/rheostat inputs: Highly flexible inputs for a wide range of sensor and signal types.
  • 1 (0.5A) digital output: For controlling external devices.
  • Real time clock: Ensures accurate time stamping for data and events.
  • USB 2.0 port with mini-B connector: For connecting to a PC for configuration, software updates, and data transfer.
  • PLUS+1™ GUIDE programmable: Allows for custom application development using the PLUS+1 GUIDE development environment.
  • J1939 engine monitor software package (requires application key): Provides dedicated functionality for monitoring J1939 compliant engine data.
  • Data logging capability: Enables recording of machine parameters and events for analysis and diagnostics.
  • Rugged IP 67 rating class housing: Ensures durability and reliability in harsh operating conditions.
  • Integrated Deutsch™ connector: Provides a robust and reliable electrical connection.
  • Extended temperature performance range: Allows operation in extreme hot or cold environments (for specific models).
  • CE and E marked: Indicates compliance with European safety and environmental standards.

The terminals are available in two general variants: the DP200 series and the DP210 series, with the DP210 series featuring a graphical display with USB. Pin assignments for both DP200 and DP210 series are clearly defined, specifying power, CAN, analog/digital inputs, and digital outputs. The DP210 series also includes pinout information for its USB mini-B connector.

Maintenance Features:

Maintaining the DP200 Series terminals involves several considerations to ensure longevity and proper operation:

  • Power Supply: Disconnect the machine's battery power before connecting power and signal cables to the DP200 to prevent damage.
  • Electrical Welding: Before doing any electrical welding on your machine, disconnect all power and signal cable cables connected to the DP200 to avoid damage from welding currents.
  • Voltage Ratings: Do not exceed the DP200 power supply voltage ratings. Using higher voltages may damage the DP200 and can create a fire or electrical shock hazard.
  • Flammable Gases/Chemicals: Do not use or store the DP200 where flammable gases or chemicals are present. Using or storing the DP200 where flammable gases or chemicals are present may cause an explosion.
  • Keypad Buttons: Software configures the keypad buttons on the DP200. Do not use these buttons to implement critical safety features. Use separate mechanical switches to implement critical safety features such as emergency stops.
  • Communication Errors: Design systems that use the DP200 so that a communication error or failure between the DP200 and other units cannot cause a malfunction that might injure people or damage material.
  • Protective Glass: The protective glass over the DP200 display screen will break if hit with a hard or heavy object. Install the DP200 to reduce the possibility of it being hit by hard or heavy objects. If the protective glass breaks, immediately return it to Sauer-Danfoss for service.
  • Storage: Storing or operating a DP200 in an environment that exceeds the DP200 specified temperature or humidity rating may damage the DP200.
  • Cleaning: Always clean the DP200 with a soft, damp cloth. Use a mild dishwashing detergent as needed. To avoid scratching and discoloring the DP200, do not use abrasive pads, scouring powders, or solvents such as alcohol, benzene, or paint thinner.
  • Serviceability: The DP200 is not user serviceable. Return the DP200 to the factory in case of failure.

Installation procedures are detailed, including mounting instructions for the panel gasket bracket and fastening the terminal using M3x10 screws. The fastening hole depth should be 11 mm, and screws should be threaded M3 and used with standard screws. Reassembly with self-tapping screws may damage existing threads in the housing. The maximum torque for fastening is 0.9 Nm; excessive torque can cause damage to the housing. Panel gasket seals are provided to ensure a watertight installation, with specific dimensions and material properties (gasket seal area crosshatched, panel thickness 2-5 mm, interior edges chamfered 0.2-0.5 mm).
