Overview

The Savio₂ Air Compressor is a robust aeration system designed to improve water quality in static ponds by increasing oxygen levels and preventing issues like thermocline and fish kills. It achieves this by forcing air through weighted rubber membrane disc diffusers, which circulates the water and promotes a healthier aquatic environment. During warmer months, it helps fish access deeper, cooler sections of the pond, while in winter, it maintains an open hole in the ice to allow natural pond gases to escape.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Savio₂ Air Compressor is pond aeration. It operates by drawing in clean, dry air, compressing it, and then delivering it through diffusers into the pond. This process introduces oxygen into the water column, which is crucial for the health of aquatic life and the overall ecosystem of the pond. By breaking up thermocline (layers of water with different temperatures), it ensures uniform oxygen distribution and prevents stagnant, oxygen-depleted zones that can lead to fish stress or mortality. The continuous circulation also helps to prevent the buildup of harmful gases and promotes the natural decomposition of organic matter.

Important Technical Specifications:

The Savio₂ Air Compressor series offers three models with varying horsepower ratings to suit different pond sizes and aeration needs:

  • SO2400: 1/2 HP Air Compressor
  • SO2750: 1 HP Air Compressor
  • SO21100: 1 1/2 HP Air Compressor

These compressors are designed for continuous operation within a temperature range of 32°F to 104°F (0°C to 40°C). They are oil-less pumps, meaning they do not require lubrication, simplifying maintenance and ensuring that no oil contaminants are introduced into the pond water.

Usage Features:

  • Mounting Flexibility: The product can be installed in any orientation. For optimal performance and reduced noise/vibration, it is recommended to mount the unit to a stable, rigid operating surface using shock mounts.
  • Plumbing: The compressor features threaded IN and OUT ports. Users should connect pipes and fittings that are the same size or larger than these ports, ensuring correct connection of intake and exhaust plumbing.
  • Electrical Connection: The compressor requires a properly installed and grounded electrical outlet. It is crucial not to modify the provided plug. For 120-volt or 220/240-volt circuits, the power supply cord grounding plug must be connected to a matching grounded outlet. The use of extension cords or "hard-wiring" the product is explicitly prohibited and will void the warranty.
  • Motor Control: Users are advised to consult a qualified electrician to ensure adequate electrical installation conforming to national and local codes. Proper overload settings, fuses, motor protective switches, or thermal protective switches should be selected to protect the motor from overload and short circuits.
  • Safety Features: The unit should be installed in a weather-protected location and kept away from water or other liquids. Safety guards should be installed as needed, and fingers/objects kept away from rotating parts. Motor terminal covers must be in place during operation.
  • Optional Accessories: The system can be enhanced with various optional components, including:
    • Manifolds: 3-Way (SOR015) and 4-Way (SOR016) outlet manifolds for distributing air to multiple diffusers.
    • Valves: Shut-off valves (SOR017) and pressure relief valves (SOR020) for control and safety.
    • Gauges: Pressure gauges (SOR022) for monitoring system performance.
    • Enclosures: Base cabinet enclosures (SOR035 for SO2400/SO2750, SOR036 for SO21100) and wall/post mount enclosures (SOR037 for SO2400/SO2750) are available to protect the compressor from the elements and reduce noise.
    • Isolation Bases: SOR030 for SO2400/SO2750 and SOR031 for SO21100 to further reduce vibration and noise.
    • Cooling Fan: SOR024 for enhanced cooling.
    • Heat Resistant Tubing: SOR023 (30″) for connecting components.
  • Environmental Considerations: The compressor should only pump clean, dry air. It is not recommended for pumping acid, base, organic vapors, or explosive gases. The exhaust air can become very hot, so surrounding items should be protected. Corrosive gases, particulate material, water vapor, oil-based contaminants, or other liquids must be filtered out to prevent damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection: It is the user's responsibility to regularly inspect the product and perform necessary repairs to maintain proper operation.
  • Filter Maintenance: The external intake filter should be checked after the first 500 hours of operation and then regularly thereafter to ensure optimal performance. The filter felt should be replaced if it is contaminated or shows signs of increasing differential pressure.
  • Cooling: Product surfaces become very hot during operation, so they should be allowed to cool before handling. The unit should be cleaned in a well-ventilated area.
  • Pressure Release: Before performing any maintenance, ensure that pressure is released from the product.
  • Electrical Disconnection: Always disconnect the electrical power supply cord or turn off power at the circuit breaker/fuse box before performing any maintenance.
  • Rebuild Kits: Rebuild kits are available for each model (SOR001 for SO2400, SOR002 for SO2750, SOR003 for SO21100), including sleeves and rings, to facilitate internal component replacement and extend the life of the compressor.
  • Capacitor & Case: Replacement capacitor and case units are available for each model (SOR005 for SO2400, SOR006 for SO2750, SOR007 for SO21100).
  • Other Replacement Parts: A comprehensive list of replacement parts is available, including power cords (SOR010), air silencers (SOR011), shock absorbing feet (SOR012), and various plumbing components.

The Savio₂ Air Compressor is a durable and effective solution for pond aeration, designed with ease of use and maintenance in mind, provided that all installation and operational guidelines are strictly followed.
