Overview

The S81-F7009-1 is a control card designed for addressable fire detection devices that utilize the XP95/Discovery Apollo protocol. This card serves as a central component for managing a network of up to 127 fire detection devices. These devices can include various types such as smoke detectors, heat detectors, combined detectors, manual alarm buttons, control modules, and both visual and audible alarm devices. Its primary function is to monitor these devices and report their status, ensuring a comprehensive fire detection and alarm system.

The card provides clear status indications through a series of eight LEDs on its front panel, allowing for quick visual assessment of the system's operational state. Each LED corresponds to a specific status:

  • The "Active" LED illuminates steadily when an input is in an alarmed or activated condition, indicating an active event.
  • The "Disabled" LED lights up steadily if an input or an output has been disabled, signifying a part of the system is intentionally out of service.
  • The "Fault" LED flashes in the event of a general fault condition within the system, alerting to a problem that needs attention.
  • The "Loop Fault" LED flashes specifically for short circuits or open loops, pinpointing issues within the communication loop itself.
  • The "Log on Fault" LED flashes if there's a discrepancy between the devices detected by the system and those that have been programmed, indicating a configuration mismatch or a missing device.
  • The "Service" LED flashes to indicate that smoke detectors may have dirty lenses, suggesting a need for maintenance.
  • The "TX Pol." LED lights up every time data is transmitted from the module to the loop devices, confirming outgoing communication.
  • The "RX Pol." LED lights up every time data is received from the loop devices, confirming incoming communication.

Configuration of the S81-F7009-1 card and its connected devices is performed using the ProS81 configuration program. This program allows for detailed customization of various parameters for each point within the system, tailored to the specific type of device.

For sensors, the configurable parameters include:

  • Operating mode: Options such as Latching-NO (Normally Open), Latching-NC (Normally Closed), Non-Latching-NO, and Non-Latching-NC can be selected, defining how the sensor responds to an event.
  • Sensitivity: Five different sensitivity levels can be chosen, allowing the detection threshold to be adjusted based on the environment and specific application requirements.
  • Type of indication: The system can be configured to indicate various event types, including Fire, Supervisory, Gas, Trouble, Hidden, or Buzzer Only, providing specific context for alarms.
  • Automatic alarm reset: Users can enable or disable the automatic reset function for alarms, controlling whether the system automatically clears an alarm condition after the event subsides.
  • Polling LED: The lighting up of the LED during polling can be enabled or disabled, providing visual feedback on device communication.

For actuators, the configurable parameters include:

  • Operating mode: Actuators can be set to operate in Continuous-Normally Energised, Continuous-Normally De-energised, Intermittent, or Pulsing modes, dictating their behavior when activated.
  • Timing: For pulsing and intermittent modes, the duration of activation can be set from 1 to 15 seconds, allowing for precise control over output timing.
  • Output type: The output can be configured as Normal or Sounder, defining the primary function of the actuator.
  • Sounder tone: A selection of 15 different tones is available for sounder outputs, enabling distinct audible alerts.
  • Sounder volume: Seven different volume levels can be chosen for sounder outputs, allowing adjustment to suit ambient noise levels and regulatory requirements.
  • Polling LED: Similar to sensors, the lighting up of the LED during polling can be enabled or disabled.

The card also supports integration with host systems for status export and command reception:

  • Enable/Disable status export to Hosts: The card can be configured to export its status to external hosts via TCP1, TCP2, or RS232, or to disable this function. This allows for remote monitoring and integration with building management systems.
  • Enable/Disable commands from Hosts on the channel: The card can be configured to receive commands from external hosts via TCP1, TCP2, or RS232, or to disable this function. This enables remote control and management of the fire detection system.

Field connections for the S81-F7009-1 card are versatile, accommodating different bus types. It can be connected to a field terminal block using either a flat cable or a multiconductor cable.

  • For the S81-E2001-1 Bus, the card connects to an S81-T8003 termination module via a 20-way flat cable. This setup is typically used for specific wiring configurations.
  • For the S81-E2001-2 Bus, the card connects to the field terminal block using an S81-CCT4 multipolar cable. This option provides a different wiring approach, often chosen for its specific advantages in certain installations.

The S81-F7009-1 module is designed to support a wide range of Apollo addressable devices, encompassing both XP95 and Discovery series products. This broad compatibility ensures flexibility in system design and expansion. The supported devices include various types of detectors (optical smoke, ionisation smoke, heat, multisensor, carbon monoxide, flame), manual call points, input/output units, switch monitors, zone monitors, sounder control units, and sounder/beacon bases. Many of these devices are powered directly by the loop, simplifying wiring and power distribution. Some devices, such as certain sounder control units, may require an external power supply, which is clearly noted in the device list. The module also supports specialized devices like reflective beams, mains input/output units, and intelligent dual/triple IR flame detectors, including ATEX-certified versions for hazardous environments. This extensive list of supported devices highlights the S81-F7009-1's capability to form a comprehensive and adaptable fire detection and alarm system.
