Overview

This document describes the SMG1011F Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generator, a multi-function generator that combines Arbitrary Waveform Generation and Function Generation. It utilizes Direct Digital Synthesizer (DDS) technology to produce stable, precise, pure, and low-distortion signals. Usage Features:

The SMG1011F offers a comprehensive set of functions accessible via its front panel and user interface.

Front Panel Operation:

  • LCD: Displays the user interface.
  • Menu Selection Buttons (F1-F5): Activate corresponding menus.
  • Number Keys: Input parameters (numbers, points, plus/minus signs).
  • Knob: Changes highlighted numbers, selects file locations, or switches characters in the soft keyboard for file naming. In Sweep and N-Cycle Burst modes, if "Manual" source is selected, pressing the knob triggers the generator once.

  • Foot Stool Adjustment: Unfold the foot stools for tilting the generator.
  • Power-On Check:
    • Set the Power Switch voltage scale according to local standards.
    • Connect the instrument to AC supply using the provided power cord.
    • Press the power button; the boot screen should appear.

Front Panel Operation Details:

  • Modulated Waveforms:
    • AM (Amplitude Modulation): Modulate carrier waveform (Sine only) with a modulating waveform (Sine, Square, Ramp, White Noise, Arbitrary). Set AM frequency, mod depth, and source (Internal/External).
    • FM (Frequency Modulation): Modulate carrier waveform (Sine only) with a modulating waveform. Set FM frequency, frequency deviation, mod shape, and source.
    • PM (Phase Modulation): Modulate carrier waveform (Sine only) with a modulating waveform. Set PM frequency, phase deviation, mod shape, and source.
    • FSK (Frequency Shift Keying): Switch output frequency between carrier and hop frequency. Set FSK rate, hop frequency, and source.
  • Sweep: Generate frequency sweeps for Sine, Square, or Ramp waveforms. Set sweep time, type (Linear/Log), start/stop frequency or center frequency/span.
  • Burst: Generate bursts for Sine, Square, Ramp, Pulse, and Arbitrary waveforms. Set N-Cycle Burst (period, start phase, cycles/infinite, source) or Gated Burst (start phase, polarity, source).
  • File Management: Save, select, edit, and delete waveform files in the file system (internal FLASH or USB device).
  • Utility Functions:
    • Display Parameters: Set brightness, separator, and screen saver time.
    • Counter: Measure frequency, period, positive width, or duty cycle. Set coupling mode, sensitivity, high frequency restrain, and trig level.
    • Output Parameters: Set output load (High Z or specific Ω value).
    • System Settings: Set language, power-on behavior (Default/Last), return to default settings, set beep (On/Off), view system information (version, serial number), and set clock source (Internal/External).
  • Sync Output: Activate/deactivate sync signal output. Sync signal behavior varies based on the output waveform (Square for Sine/Square/Ramp/Pulse, Square for Arbitrary, Square for Modulated signals, Square for FSK, Square for Sweep, Level High for Burst start).
  • Power Amplifier (Optional): Connect input signal to P-Input and amplified signal outputs from P-Output. Features X10 gain, 10W sine output, 50 kΩ input impedance, output protection, and DC – 100 kHz bandwidth.
  • Built-in Help: Access help topics, view details, and navigate through the catalog.

Communication with PC:

  • USB Connection: Connects to a PC via USB (type B) connector.
  • Software: Uses ultrawave communication software (provided on CD) for parameter setting and control.
  • Driver Installation: Guides users to install USB driver from the "USBDRV" folder.
  • Port Settings: Configure software to connect using "USB".
