The Sea Eagle BP12 Single Stage Electric Pump is a portable, 12-volt DC (battery-powered) pump designed for inflating Sea Eagle boats and other inflatables. It is a single-stage pump, meaning it utilizes a piston pump mechanism. This pump is not designed for deflation.
Function Description:
The primary function of the BP12 pump is to inflate various Sea Eagle products, including FastTracks, Explorers, PaddleSkis, 285fpb, STS10, FoldCats, Sport Runabouts, Travel Canoes, RazorLites, Rescue Boards, and SUPs, to their recommended pressure settings. It features an automatic shutoff mechanism that stops the pump once the desired pressure is reached, preventing over-inflation. The pump is powered by a 12-volt DC source, such as a Sea Eagle battery or any 12-volt battery with a 7 amp-hour or greater rating, including automotive and marine batteries.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Power Source: 12-volt DC (battery-powered)
- Maximum Pressure: Approximately 14.5 psi (1 bar)
- Air Output: 160 L/min
- Current Draw: 20 amps (cannot be used with a vehicle's accessory outlet)
- Automatic Stop: Yes
- Continuous Run Time Limit: 15 minutes (followed by a 20-minute cool-down period)
Usage Features:
Setup and Connection:
The BP12 pump comes with a storage bag that includes multiple compartments, alligator clips, and an inflation hose with an adapter.
- Hose Connection: The inflation hose connects to the red inflation port on the end of the pump by screwing it on. The storage bag features an access hole with a protective flap, allowing the hose to be attached without removing the pump from the bag.
- Adapter: The hook-in style adapter is designed for use with recessed valves that have a stem. The red gasket on the adapter should face outward. If the gasket is stiff, it can be pulled off, reversed, stretched, or kneaded to soften it.
- Valve Preparation: Before inflation, ensure the valve stem of the inflatable is in the UP (valve closed) position.
- Adapter Insertion: Insert the adapter into the valve and twist it to the right. The "hooks" on the adapter will lock it into place.
- Power Connection (Auto or Marine Battery):
- Connect the black clamp to the black (-) terminal of the battery or a metal grounding point.
- Connect the red clamp to the red (+) terminal.
- It is crucial to remember "Red to Red, Black to Black." If needed, the power cord can be split by pulling the clamps apart, and the black band can be slid down.
- Warning: Connecting to the wrong terminals can cause wires to overheat. The clamps are non-conductive plastic and should remain cool. If in doubt, use a shoe or other non-conductive item to knock the clamp off or pull the pump by its hose.
- Danger: To avoid injury from moving parts, the vehicle's engine should not be running when connecting to a car or truck battery. Do not connect the pump if you smell gas, as a spark could ignite a fire.
- Power Connection (Sea Eagle Battery Kit - Optional):
- The optional Sea Eagle Battery Kit includes a quick connector, a charging port, and fuse protection.
- Place the battery in the middle compartment of the carry bag. A passthrough hole in the bag divider allows for connection to the pump.
- Push the quick connectors together until they click. To disconnect, press the catch piece on top and pull apart.
- The power cord is used to connect the pump to a 12V battery. The middle compartment of the bag is for stowing the power cord.
- Pressure Setting: Turn the dial until the pointer indicates the desired pressure. Yellow numbers represent PSI, and white numbers represent bars (metric). Refer to the Sea Eagle pressure settings provided in the manual or the boat owner's manual for the correct setting.
- PSI Settings Examples:
- 3.2 PSI for: FastTracks, Explorers, PaddleSki, 285fpb, STS10, FoldCat & Sport Runabouts
- 10 PSI for: Travel Canoe, RazorLites
- 5-10 PSI for: Rescue Board
- 12-14.5 PSI for: SUPs
- Inflation: Press the "ON" button to begin inflation. The pump will automatically stop once the set pressure is met. Do not turn off the pump manually during inflation.
Safety Warnings:
- Do not run the pump for more than 15 minutes continuously to prevent overheating and damage. Allow 20 minutes for cool-down before restarting.
- Use the pump away from water and protect it from rain to avoid electrical shorts.
- Do not leave the pump running unattended.
- Keep out of reach of children.
- Do not connect the pump if you smell gas. A spark could ignite a fire.
- When connecting to a car or truck battery, the engine should not be running to avoid injury from moving parts.
Troubleshooting:
- Pump does not shut off when inflating: Remove the hose, connect the pump to the power source, turn it on, and cover the red (out) port to block airflow. If the pump shuts off, it is working. If not, contact Sea Eagle Customer Service for a replacement.
- Pump smells like it is burning: Turn the pump off immediately, unplug it from the power supply, and do not try to restart. Contact Sea Eagle Customer Service.
- Pump no longer pumps air and makes unusual noise: This indicates a broken pumping mechanism. Contact Sea Eagle Customer Service.
Maintenance Features:
Sea Eagle Battery Kit (Optional) Care:
- Initial Charge: Fully charge the battery before its first use.
- Regular Charging: Regular discharge and recharge are beneficial for the battery. Recharge the battery as soon as practical after each use.
- Storage: Charge the battery occasionally during long storage periods.
- Battery Life: Do not run the battery completely down, as this will shorten its life. Leaving the battery drained causes permanent damage.
- Charger Usage:
- Plug the charger into a 120V outlet. The LED indicator light will show green.
- Insert the charger wire into the battery charging port.
- Warning: Use only the charger supplied with the battery.
- LED will show red when the battery is charging. Charging is complete when the light turns from red to green. Charging time is usually half an hour but may take three or more hours.
- Unplug the charger from the wall when not connected to a battery.
- A properly working charger will show 14.7V output when tested with a voltmeter until a resistance is placed against it.
- The pump will work with a charged battery but not off the charger alone.
- A charged battery has enough capacity to fill two or more inflatables.
- Troubleshooting Battery Charger:
- Light flashes red: This usually indicates a problem with the battery. Leave it plugged in for a while to see if it accepts a charge. A flashing light might also mean a minor LED issue while the charger still works. Contact Sea Eagle if it does not accept a charge.
- Light stays red: If the charger and battery have been plugged into a wall outlet for some time, but the light remains red, unplug and replug the charger wire. If the light changes to green and stays green, the charge is complete, and no action is needed.
General Maintenance:
- Keep the pump in its carry bag for easy transportation and to protect it from sand.
- When calling Sea Eagle Customer Service for troubleshooting, have the pump, hose, adapter, and power supply available for testing.
