The Sealey CRM101 and CRM151 are retractable cable reels designed for industrial and workshop environments, providing a convenient and safe method for power distribution. These devices are manufactured to a high standard, ensuring years of trouble-free performance when used and maintained correctly.
The primary function of these cable reels is to store and dispense electrical cable, offering a flexible power source that can be extended and retracted as needed. They feature a durable composite housing and a simple pull-and-release action for cable management. An integral manual thermal trip switch is included to prevent overload, enhancing safety during operation. A built-in LED power indicator provides visual confirmation of power status. The reels are supplied with a single socket outlet for connecting electrical appliances.
Both models operate at a voltage of 230V. They utilize a 3 x 1.0mm² cable size.
The cable reel must be fixed in an appropriate position, ensuring the wall and mounting bolts adequately support its weight and the cable tension. The bracket serves as a template for drilling two 10mm diameter holes. Rawl bolts are supplied for secure mounting. The bracket is then mounted onto the studs and secured with flat washers, spring washers, and nuts. It's crucial to tighten the nuts evenly until the bracket and reel are secure. Finally, ensure the cable can be pulled out and reeled back without rubbing on the sides of the cable entry.
As the cable is pulled from the reel, a ratchet mechanism engages, producing alternating clicking sounds and silent periods. If the tension on the cable is released during a clicking period, the cable will remain extended. If tension is released during a silent period, the cable will retract. To prevent retraction, pull the cable out again until the ratchet clicks, then release it.
To release the cable and allow automatic rewinding, pull the cable out from the locked position until the clicking stops. Then, release the tension on the cable. It is important to guide the cable back smoothly until the socket is fully retracted into the reel. The reel tension is factory set; any adjustment requires an authorized service agent. Users are warned NOT to remove any of the cover screws.
In case of an overload, the integral thermal cut-out switch will trip, disconnecting the reel from the power supply. If this occurs, the user must disconnect the reel from the supply, determine and rectify the cause of the overload, and then reconnect to the supply. After allowing two to three minutes for cooling down, the cut-out reset button should be pressed.
Users must familiarise themselves with the reel's application, limitations, and specific hazards. It is crucial to isolate the reel from the electrical supply before connecting or disconnecting equipment, servicing, or performing any maintenance. The reel should be maintained in good condition, using an authorised service agent for repairs and replacement parts. It should be located and fixed in a suitable work area, away from direct sunlight or extreme temperatures. Extended cable should be kept away from heat, oil, and sharp edges, and checked for wear before each use. Users must maintain correct balance and footing, ensuring the floor is not slippery and wearing non-slip shoes. Children and unauthorised persons must be kept away from the work area. The reel should not be used for purposes other than its design. Operation while tired, under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or intoxicating medication is prohibited. When not in use, the electrical supply should be switched off, and the cable retracted into the case. The reel should be stored in a safe, dry location. Users are warned NOT to dismantle the reel casing or attempt to remove the side screws, as this may cause damage, personal injury, and invalidate the warranty. Internal maintenance requiring casing opening must only be undertaken by an authorised service agent. Users must observe the wound and unwound capacities specified for each model.
The reel should be maintained in good condition, and damaged parts should be replaced or repaired by an authorised service agent using recommended parts only. Unauthorised parts may be dangerous and will invalidate the warranty. Internal maintenance, which requires opening the casing, must only be undertaken by an authorised service agent. Regular inspection of the power supply, leads, plugs, and all electrical connections for wear and damage is essential.
Users are responsible for checking all electrical equipment and appliances for safety before use, including power supply leads, plugs, and connections for wear and damage. The risk of electric shock should be minimised by installing appropriate safety devices, such as an RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) in the main distribution board and an RCD (Residual Current Device) for portable products. If in doubt, a qualified electrician should be consulted. The Electricity At Work Act 1989 requires portable electrical appliances used on business premises to be tested annually by a qualified electrician using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT). The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 makes owners responsible for the safe condition of the appliance and the operator. Insulation on all cables and the product itself must be safe before connecting to the mains. Cables must always be protected against short circuit and overload. The product voltage must match the power supply. Users must NOT pull power plugs from sockets by the power cable or use worn or damaged leads, plugs, or connections. Damaged components must be immediately replaced or repaired by a qualified electrician. For UK users, a 3-pin plug with ASTA/BS approval is fitted. In case of damage, a new plug should be fitted according to the provided instructions: connect the GREEN/YELLOW earth wire to the earth terminal 'E', the BROWN live wire to live terminal 'L', and the BLUE neutral wire to the neutral terminal 'N'. After wiring, ensure no bare wires, correct connections, cable outer insulation extends beyond the cable restraint, and the restraint is tight.
Unwanted materials should be recycled instead of being disposed of as waste. All tools, accessories, and packaging should be sorted and taken to a recycling center for environmentally compatible disposal. When the product is no longer required, it must be disposed of in an environmentally protective way, and users should contact their local solid waste authority for recycling information.
The product comes with a 12-month warranty from the purchase date, requiring proof of purchase for any claim. Parts support, including parts listings and diagrams, is available by logging onto www.sealey.co.uk, emailing sales@sealey.co.uk, or calling 01284 757500. Sealey's policy is to continually improve products, and they reserve the right to alter data, specifications, and component parts without prior notice.
