Overview

The Sealey Micro Air Die Grinder, Model SA673, is a pneumatic tool designed for professional users, featuring an air motor with quality bearings for smooth and powerful operation. Its shrouded exhaust ensures quieter performance, making it suitable for various grinding tasks. This tool is supplied with essential accessories, including spanners, grinding points, air tool oil, an inline oiler, and a quick connector, all housed in a convenient carry case.

Function Description:

The primary function of the SA673 is precision grinding using various grinding wheel bits. It operates by converting compressed air into rotational motion, driving the grinding bit at high speeds to remove material from a workpiece. The tool is designed for controlled material removal, making it suitable for tasks requiring fine detail and accuracy. Its compact size and ergonomic design allow for comfortable handling and precise manipulation during operation. The knurled section on the tool body serves as an "OFF"/"ON" switch, enabling easy control of the grinder's operation.

Usage Features:

Before connecting the air die grinder to the air supply, it is crucial to ensure the tool is in the "OFF" position. The recommended air pressure for operation is 90psi, and the air supply system should be clean and free from moisture to prevent damage and ensure optimal performance. An air line setup, including a water separator, regulator, and oiler, is recommended to maintain air quality and lubricate the tool. The air inlet filter should be cleaned weekly, and the air tank drained daily to prevent water damage.

When selecting a grinding wheel bit, it is essential to inspect it for flaws; only sound bits should be used. The bit is secured by loosening the collet locking collar with the provided spanners, inserting the bit to its full depth, and then locking it in position. Workpieces must be properly secured, ideally with a vice or clamps, and never held by hand during operation.

To begin grinding, hold the grinder firmly away from the workpiece and twist the knurled section to the "ON" position. It is important to allow the bit to reach its maximum speed before engaging the workpiece. The die grinder should be held firmly, and the grinding wheel eased against the workpiece with controlled progression. Avoid jerky or excessive forces, allowing the tool to do the work. Running the air tool freely for extended periods should be avoided as it can shorten the life of wearing parts.

Safety is paramount during operation. Users must wear approved eye and ear protection, along with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Awareness of COSHH regulations is necessary, especially when dealing with fumes or dust, which may require breathing apparatus. The work area should be clean, tidy, well-lit, and adequately ventilated. Loose clothing, ties, jewelry, and long hair must be secured to prevent entanglement. Children and unauthorized persons should be kept away from the work area. The air hose should be kept away from heat, oil, and sharp edges, and regularly checked for wear and secure connections. The tool should never be carried or yanked by the hose.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is vital for the longevity and performance of the SA673. Before any maintenance, servicing, or changing bits, the die grinder must be disconnected from the air supply. Only genuine parts should be used for replacements, as unauthorized parts can be dangerous and invalidate the warranty.

If the air supply system does not include an oiler, the air grinder should be lubricated daily with a few drops of air tool oil dripped into the inline oiler before use. This lubrication is crucial for the air motor's smooth operation.

Loss of power or erratic action can often be attributed to issues with the air supply, such as excessive drain on the air line, moisture, restrictions, or incorrect hose connectors. Checking the air supply system and following the setup instructions in the manual can resolve these issues.

Performance reduction can also be caused by grit or gum deposits on the grinding wheel bit. If the model has an air strainer, it should be removed and cleaned. Flushing the grinder with gum solvent oil or a mixture of SAE No 10 oil and kerosene, then allowing it to dry, can help clear deposits. If problems persist, contacting a local Sealey service agent is recommended for a full service.

When not in use, the grinder should be disconnected from the air supply, cleaned with a brush or dry cloth, and its sheath wiped with a moist cloth and mild detergent. The tool should then be stored in a safe, dry, childproof location, preferably in its supplied carry case.

The tool's design and maintenance requirements emphasize user safety and operational efficiency, ensuring reliable performance for professional grinding tasks.
