Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the Craftsman Smart Control Smart Garage Door Opener, Model/Modelo 139.54920, designed for residential use.

Function Description:

The Craftsman Smart Control Smart Garage Door Opener is an electronically controlled device designed to open and close residential garage doors. It features electronic controls for easy setup and adjustment of the door's open (UP) and close (DOWN) positions. The system automatically senses and adjusts the force required to operate the door. It is compatible with up to 8 Smart Control accessories and can be activated via a wall-mounted door control, remote control, wireless keyless entry, or other Smart Control accessories. The opener is equipped with a safety reversal system that causes the door to reverse if it encounters an obstruction while closing. It also includes The Protector System® safety reversing sensors, which detect obstructions in the infrared beam path, stopping and reversing the door to the full open position if the beam is broken during closing. The opener lights will flash 10 times in such an event.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: 139.54920
  • Power Requirements: Operates at 120 V, 60 Hz.
  • Light Bulb Type: A19 incandescent (100W maximum) or compact fluorescent (26W, 100W equivalent) light bulb. Halogen, short neck, or specialty light bulbs are not recommended due to potential overheating. LED bulbs may reduce remote control range or performance.
  • Safety Reversing Sensor Height: The safety reversing sensor beam must be no higher than 6 inches (15 cm) above the garage floor.
  • Door Control Installation Height: Must be installed within sight of the garage door, out of reach of children, at a minimum height of 5 feet (1.5 m), and away from all moving parts of the door.
  • Emergency Release Handle Height: Must be mounted within reach, but at least 6 feet (1.83 m) above the floor, avoiding contact with vehicles to prevent accidental release.
  • Garage Door Height Compatibility: Standard rail supports doors up to 7 feet (2.13 m) high. Rail extension kits (8 ft/2.4 m and 10 ft/3 m) are available for taller doors.
  • Remote Control Codes: Randomly accesses over 100 billion new codes for enhanced security.
  • Smart Control Technology: Uses a 900MHz signal for two-way communication.
  • Memory Capacity: Up to 8 remote controls, up to 2 Smart Garage Door Opener door controls, and up to 1 keyless entry.

Usage Features:

  • Timer-to-Close (TTC): Automatically closes the door after a specified time (1, 5, or 10 minutes). An audible and visual alert precedes closing. This feature is ONLY for sectional doors.
  • Smart Control Panel: Provides access to features like learning devices, locking the opener, setting the Timer-to-Close, and controlling automatic lights.
  • Lock Feature: Prevents activation of the garage door opener from remote controls, while still allowing activation from the door control and keyless entry. The command LED flashes when activated.
  • Automatic Light (Motion Sensor): Automatically turns on the garage door opener lights when motion is sensed. The lights remain on for a set period (1.5, 2.5, 3.5, or 4.5 minutes) and then shut off. This feature can be disabled.
  • Light Feature (Safety Sensor): Turns on the garage door opener lights when someone enters through the open garage door and breaks the safety sensor infrared beam.
  • Manual Operation: The door can be opened and closed manually by pulling the emergency release handle to disengage the trolley. This should ideally be done when the door is closed.
  • Programming Travel Limits: Electronic controls allow for easy programming of the door's open and close positions.
  • Remote Control Programming: Remote controls are factory programmed but can be reprogrammed or additional remotes added using the Learn button on the opener or the Smart Control Panel.
  • Memory Erase: All remote control and keyless entry codes can be erased from the opener's memory.

Maintenance Features:

  • Monthly Checks:
    • Manually operate the door to check for balance and binding. If issues are found, a trained door systems technician should be called.
    • Verify the door opens and closes fully, adjusting as necessary.
    • Test the safety reversal system monthly. The door MUST reverse on contact with a 1-1/2 inch (3.8 cm) high object (or a 2x4 laid flat) on the floor.
  • Annual Checks:
    • Oil door rollers, bearings, and hinges. The garage door opener itself does not require additional lubrication.
    • DO NOT grease the door tracks.
  • Sprocket Cover: Must be securely attached before operating the opener to prevent injury.
  • Safety Reversing Sensors: Regular checks are needed to ensure they are correctly installed, aligned, and free of obstructions. LEDs on the sensors indicate proper alignment (amber for sending, green for receiving).
  • Light Bulb Replacement: Replace burned-out bulbs with A19 incandescent (100W maximum) or compact fluorescent (26W, 100W equivalent) garage door opener bulbs.
  • Remote Control Battery: Uses a 3V CR2032 coin battery, typically lasting up to 3 years. Replacement should be done carefully, inserting the new battery positive side up.
  • Diagnostic Chart: The opener has self-diagnostic capabilities, with UP and DOWN arrows flashing diagnostic codes to help troubleshoot common issues.
  • Energy Conservation: The opener enters a sleep mode when the door is fully closed to conserve energy, shutting down until activated. The sensor LEDs will turn off during sleep mode and light up when the opener lights turn on.
