The unit is protected by a 20mm 10A 250V F Ceramic fuse.

Usage Features

The PAC3760 plus II features an LCD display (1) that shows test progress and results. It has several push buttons for initiating tests:

  • Class I Test / Cord Sequence Button (2): Used for Class I appliance tests and mains cord tests.
  • Class II Test Sequence Button (3): Used for Class II appliance tests.
  • Leakage Test Sequence Button (4): Used for leakage tests.
  • 10mA portable RCD Test Button (5): Initiates a 10mA RCD operating time test.
  • 30mA portable RCD Test Button (6): Initiates a 30mA RCD operating time test.
  • 3-Phase Test Sequence Button (7): Used for 3-Phase equipment tests (requires an adaptor).

The unit also includes a Test/Mains outlet socket (8), Mains inlet socket (9), IEC Test Connection (10), and an Earth Continuity Test Terminal (11).

Power ON/OFF: Press and hold the Class I and Class II test buttons simultaneously. The unit automatically switches off after approximately 3 minutes of inactivity.

Testing Procedures:

  • Visual Inspection: All tests begin with a visual inspection of the appliance or lead as per AS/NZS 3760:2010 requirements.
  • Class I Appliance Test: Involves Earth Continuity and Insulation tests. The appliance's ON/OFF switch must be in the ON position for insulation tests.
  • Class I Appliance with Leakage Test: Requires the mains lead to be plugged into the PAC3760 plus II and a mains supply socket. It performs Earth Continuity and Leakage tests. The appliance's ON/OFF switch must be in the ON position.
  • Class II Appliance Test: Involves an Insulation test. The appliance's ON/OFF switch must be in the ON position.
  • Class II Appliance with Leakage Test: Similar to Class I leakage test but for Class II appliances, performing Insulation and Leakage tests.
  • Mains Cord Test: Tests Earth Continuity, Insulation, and wiring (checking for open circuits, short circuits, or reversed connections in live and neutral conductors).
  • Extension Lead Test: Tested similarly to an IEC lead, requiring a 0.5m IEC lead to connect the extension lead to the PAC3760 plus II.
  • EPOD (Powerboard) Test: AS/NZS 3760 requires an earth resistance test for each outlet. Two procedures are available:
    • Procedure A: Complete test sequence (earth, insulation, polarity) for every socket.
    • Procedure B: Complete test sequence on the last socket, and only earth resistance tests on remaining sockets.
  • EPOD/Extension Lead with MOV and/or RCDs Test: This sequence uses a leakage test instead of an insulation test to avoid triggering surge protectors (MOVs) or to power RCDs. Similar procedures (A and B) are available.
  • 3-Phase Equipment Test: Requires an additional adaptor. The unit will display a warning if no adaptor is connected.
  • RCD Operating Time Test: Measures the operating time of portable RCDs (10mA or 30mA). It alternates between 0° and 180° conditions, requiring two tests for comprehensive coverage.

Display Indicators:

  • RPE icon: Indicates protective earth conductor resistance.
  • RISO icon: Indicates insulation resistance.
  • ILEAK icon: Indicates leakage current.
  • LO LOAD: Displayed if the appliance load is too small for detection.
  • HIGH LOAD: Displayed if the appliance load is too great (e.g., >10A), suggesting an insulation test instead of a leakage test to avoid blowing the fuse.
  • LN, LE, NE enunciators: Indicate mains supply status (Correct, No mains, Earth fault, Live/neutral reversed).
  • GOOd: Indicates correct wiring for cord tests.
  • OPEn: Indicates open circuit in live or neutral conductor or blown fuse.
  • Shrt: Indicates live and neutral conductors are shorted.
  • CrOS: Indicates live and neutral connections are crossed.

Maintenance Features

  • Cleaning: Clean only with a dry cloth; do not use solvents.
  • Visual Inspection: Before each use, visually inspect all leads, connectors, and the case for damage or wear.
  • Battery Check: The unit is powered by 6 AA cells. A low battery voltage is indicated by a flashing battery icon, and all test keys are disabled.
  • Battery Replacement: To replace batteries, switch off the unit, disconnect all leads, place the unit face down, release the captive screw on the battery compartment cover, and remove the cover. Insert new Alkaline or NiMH batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
  • Fuse Replacement: The unit is protected by a 20mm 10A 250V F Ceramic fuse. If the fuse blows, mains tests will be inhibited. Replacement involves switching off the unit, disconnecting all leads, and accessing the fuse holder in the battery compartment.
  • Calibration: To maintain accuracy, the instrument must be recalibrated at regular intervals (recommended annually) by the manufacturer, Emona Instruments, or Electrotest Ltd.
  • User Serviceable Parts: The PAC3760 plus II contains no user-serviceable parts. If an "Error" warning appears, contact Emona Instruments or Electrotest Ltd for advice.
