The SCA BA02 is a portable breathalyser designed to estimate blood alcohol content (BAC) from a breath sample. It features a digital LCD display with a two-color backlight for clear readings. The device is powered by three 1.5V AAA alkaline batteries and has an automatic shut-off function after 2 minutes to conserve power. Its compact dimensions (107 x 45 x 25 mm) and light weight (approx. 48 g without batteries) make it easy to carry. The breathalyser comes with three blowing tubes for use.
Function Description:
The primary function of the SCA BA02 is to measure the alcohol concentration in a person's breath. It operates within a measuring range of 0.2% to 1.5%. The device provides different indications based on the measured alcohol level:
- "LO" (low value): Displayed for measured values lower than 0.2%.
- Concentrated alcohol value: Shown on the display for values between >0.2% and a predefined warning level.
- Warning value: If the measured value equals or exceeds the warning concentrated value, a sound signal will be made, and "NO DRIVING" (driving forbidden) will flash on the screen for about 25 seconds. The measured value and "NO DRIVING" will remain lit.
- "HI" (high value) & "NO DRIVING": Appears if the measured value is greater than 1.5%. The sound signal can be canceled by pressing the MODE button.
The device has a preheat sensor that activates upon startup, displaying "WAIT" for about 9 seconds, followed by "PH" and "Sta" intermittently, along with a preheat countdown. Once ready, "READY" appears, accompanied by a sound.

Usage Features:
To use the device, batteries must first be installed. After inserting the batteries, an "AUTO CLEANING" process automatically commences, indicated by a flashing auto-cleaning indicator and a countdown on the display. This process can be interrupted by pressing the ON/OFF button. Before taking a test, it is crucial to rinse your mouth with clean water and avoid smoking or consuming alcoholic beverages for at least 5 minutes.
To initiate a test, press the START button briefly. The device will preheat, and once "READY" is displayed, it is ready for use. A straw or blowing tube should be inserted into the inlet opening above the LCD display. The user then presses and holds the "BLOW" button and blows into the tube constantly for approximately 6 seconds until a sound is made and the measured value appears.
The device includes several safety warnings:
- Do not use the breathalyser immediately after or within 15 minutes of consuming alcohol, as this may damage the detection sensor and lead to inaccurate future measurements.
- Avoid performing tests in strong winds or in enclosed rooms filled with cigarette smoke or alcohol vapors.
- Do not blow smoke, food, or liquids into the mouthpiece.
- Use the device only within a temperature range of +10 to +40 °C to prevent damage and incorrect results.
- The measurement results are for informative purposes only and should not be used as legal evidence or for making decisions requiring responsibility.
- Factors like natural gas remains, smoke, and undesirable breath can influence measured values.
- It is strictly forbidden to drive if the low warning value is exceeded.
Maintenance Features:
- Battery Replacement: If the flat batteries symbol appears, replace the batteries with new ones. If the low battery condition indicator light flashes, measurements will not be accurate, and batteries should be replaced immediately.
- Battery Storage: Remove batteries if storing the device for an extended period to prevent leakage and corrosion. Do not expose batteries to excessive heat, charge, heat, open, short, or throw them into fire. Do not leave discharged batteries in the device or combine different types or new and old batteries.
- Auto-Cleaning: To ensure accurate measurements, especially after not using the device for longer than 2 weeks or before first use, perform an auto-cleaning process. This involves removing and re-inserting batteries and turning on the device. The process takes approximately 5 minutes, with a countdown on the display and a sound in the last minute. The device will automatically turn off after 1 minute, signaling completion.
- Accuracy Check: It is recommended to have the device's accuracy tested after a year of use. More frequent use may shorten its lifetime and affect accuracy.
- Troubleshooting "Err" Message: If "Err" flashes for longer than 5 seconds, it may indicate incorrect handling, such as not pressing and holding the BLOW button during the test or not starting the test within 8 seconds of "READY" appearing.
- Repeat Measurements: If the difference between two subsequent measurements is greater than 0.1%, repeat the measurement.
- Clearing Residual Alcohol: To ensure accurate measurements, check for residual alcohol in the device. Wait until "LOW" is shown on the display (by pressing START again), hold down BLOW, and allow fresh air to be sucked into the opening. Gently shaking the device can also help remove alcohol remains.
- Storage: Store the device in a dry place when not in use.
- Service: If electrolyte leaks from the batteries or if the device is not working correctly or its efficiency is reduced, have it cleaned by an authorized service center.
The manufacturer and vendor are not responsible for damages caused by the use of this device. The device meets the basic requirements of EU directives.
