Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the Sencor SCM 4800BL and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Sencor SCM 4800BL is a thermoelectric cooler designed for both cooling and heating food and beverages, making it suitable for various environments such as home, office, car, caravan, boat, or camping. Its operation is based on the Peltier effect, which converts electrical energy into thermal energy.

Function Description:

This device serves primarily as a portable cooler and warmer. It can cool items to a maximum of 20 °C below the ambient temperature, making it effective for keeping pre-cooled food and drinks chilled. For heating, it can maintain a temperature of up to 65 °C, ideal for keeping heated food and beverages warm for several hours, provided the lid remains properly shut. While it can heat cold items, a longer heating time should be expected. The cooler also offers storage space for cups, mugs, and specifically features an area for storing cans of beverages, though this particular area does not have a cooling/heating effect.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Nominal voltage: 12 V
  • Rated power input: 32 W
  • Maximum cooling capacity: 20 °C below the ambient temperature
  • Maximum heating capacity: 65 °C
  • Climatic class: N (moderate temperature, ambient temperature range of 16-32 °C)
  • Insulation: Expanded polystyrene foam (EPS)
  • Volume: 8 L
  • Dimensions (w x h x d): 20 x 30 x 44 cm
  • Weight: 3.1 kg

The device is approved for use in vehicles in accordance with EU directives.

Usage Features:

The SCM 4800BL is designed for ease of use and portability. It features a lid with a power cord storage compartment, an adjustable-length shoulder strap for convenient carrying, and a strap for fastening it securely in a car.

Powering the Device:

The cooler can be powered via a 12V socket (e.g., a car cigarette lighter). For 220-240V mains power, a separate voltage converter (model number Y50 U Sencor, not included) is required. When connecting to a 220-240V power socket on a boat, it is crucial to ensure the socket is equipped with a residual current device for safety. The 12V socket should be kept clean, and metal or other conductive items should not be used for cleaning.

Operating Modes:

A mode switch allows users to select between cooling (COLD) and heating (HOT) modes. Respective indicator lights (A⑥ for HOT, A⑧ for COLD) confirm the active operating mode. When powering the appliance from a 12V car socket without the engine running, users should regularly check the battery level to prevent it from draining completely.

Safety Precautions:

  • The appliance can be used by children aged 8 and older, and by persons with physical or mental impairments or inexperience, provided they are supervised or informed about safe usage and potential dangers.
  • Cleaning and maintenance should not be performed by children unless they are over 8 years old and supervised.
  • Children should not be allowed to play with the appliance.
  • The appliance should not be exposed to rain, direct sunlight, open flames, or heat sources.
  • It should not be used in very dusty or humid rooms, or areas with stored chemicals or industrial surroundings.
  • Ventilation openings must not be covered during operation to ensure sufficient air circulation.
  • No electrical devices, solvents, or explosive substances (e.g., flammable sprays) should be stored in the food storage area.
  • The appliance should not be filled with ice or liquids, nor submerged in water or any other liquid.
  • It should not be left unsupervised when connected to a power source.
  • Always disconnect the appliance from the power socket when not in use, or before moving or cleaning.
  • Disconnect by gently pulling the plug, not the power cord, to avoid damage.
  • The power cord must not touch hot surfaces.
  • Do not use the appliance if the power cord or plug is damaged; contact an authorized service center for replacement.
  • If the appliance is not working correctly, is damaged, or has been submerged in water, all repairs or adjustments must be performed by an authorized service center. Tampering during the warranty period will void the warranty.

Maintenance Features:

  • Before cleaning, always disconnect the power cord from both the power supply and the cooler.
  • The cooler should be kept clean and regularly wiped with a sponge dampened in clean water or a weak solution of kitchen detergent and water. After applying detergent, wipe the surface with a sponge dampened in warm water and thoroughly dry all parts.
  • Care must be taken to prevent water from leaking into the ventilation holes during cleaning.
  • Do not use steel wool, abrasive cleaning agents, petrol, thinners, or similar substances, as these can damage the surface.
  • The cooler should never be submerged in water, washed under running water, or placed in a dishwasher.
  • An internal chain limits the maximum extent to which the lid can be opened.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues such as the cooler not working, fans not turning, or insufficient cooling. Solutions range from checking power connections and fuses to cleaning the cigarette lighter socket, and in cases of damaged components (fan motor, thermoelectric element), recommending repair by an authorized service center.

Disposal Information:

Packaging materials should be disposed of at a public waste disposal site. Used electrical and electronic appliances should not be treated as household waste. They must be disposed of at an applicable collection point for recycling. In some EU states, products can be returned to local retailers when purchasing an equivalent new product. Proper disposal helps conserve natural resources and prevent negative environmental and health impacts. For business entities in the EU, information on disposal should be requested from the seller or supplier. For countries outside the EU, information on disposal methods should be obtained from local government departments or the seller. The product meets all basic EU regulation requirements.
