Do you have a question about the Sencor SPR 5508BK and is the answer not in the manual?
This document describes the Sencor SPR 5508BK Slow Cooker, a versatile kitchen appliance designed for slow cooking, steam cooking, and yoghurt making.
The Sencor SPR 5508BK is a multi-functional slow cooker that offers several cooking modes to cater to various culinary needs. Its primary function is slow cooking, which is ideal for tenderizing meat and intensifying flavors with minimal effort. The appliance also features browning modes for sautéing, browning, and high searing, allowing users to pre-cook ingredients to lock in moisture and enhance aroma before slow cooking. Additionally, it includes a steam cooking mode for healthy preparation of vegetables, fish, and dumplings, and a dedicated yoghurt mode for homemade yoghurt.
The slow cooker operates with a user-friendly control panel (A9) featuring an LED display (B4) to show cooking times and modes. It includes plus (+) and minus (-) buttons (B2) for adjusting cooking times, a cancel button (B3) to stop cooking processes, and a menu button (B6) for selecting different cooking modes. A dedicated "Keep Warm" button (B1) with an indicator allows for automatic or manual activation of the keep warm function, maintaining food temperature for up to 4 hours after cooking.
The appliance is designed for domestic use and similar locations such as kitchens in stores, offices, hotels, motels, and bed and breakfast establishments. It is not intended for industrial environments.
To begin, the slow cooker is connected to a power socket, which triggers a beep and switches it to stand-by mode, indicated by four lines on the display (B4). Users can wake the appliance from sleep mode by pressing any button (B1-B6). Cooking modes (C1-C9) are selected using the menu button (B6), with each selection accompanied by a beep and a flashing indicator. The default cooking time for each mode is displayed and can be adjusted using the plus (+) and minus (-) buttons (B2). The selected mode and time are confirmed and cooking starts by pressing the On/Off / start button (B5). There is a 60-second time limit to confirm settings before the appliance beeps, indicating it's on but not cooking. If no action is taken within 5 minutes, it reverts to stand-by mode.
The slow cooker offers five browning modes: Gentle heat (C1), Low heat (C2), Medium heat (C3), Sauté (C4), and High sear (C5). These modes operate at approximate temperatures ranging from 100 °C to 180 °C. They are used for sautéing meat and pre-cooking vegetables. The set time starts counting down after a preheating phase is complete.
Two slow cooking modes are available: Slow cooking at low temperature (C9) and Slow cooking at high temperature (C8). Mode C9 provides gentle heating over a longer period (6-14 hours) without overcooking, while mode C8 cooks faster (2-8 hours), potentially reaching boiling point for some meals. The cooking bowl (A6) should be filled with ingredients and liquids up to 3/4 of its capacity, and the lid (A3) secured using the lid fastening locks (A5). After the timer reaches zero, the slow cooker automatically switches to KEEP WARM mode for 4 hours.
For steam cooking, the steamer insert (A4) is placed in the cooking bowl (A6) with 1 to 1.3 litres of water, ensuring the water level is just below the insert. Food is placed on the steamer insert, and the lid (A3) is locked. The cooking time (10-120 minutes) can be adjusted. It is crucial not to remove the lid during steam cooking to avoid releasing steam and extending cooking time.
This mode is designed for making homemade yoghurt. All equipment and utensils must be sterilised. Ingredients are mixed in a separate bowl before being transferred to the cooking bowl (A6). The lid (A3) is then locked, and the cooking time (6-12 hours) is set.
The slow cooker features both automatic and manual keep warm modes. It automatically activates after slow cooking modes (C8 or C9) complete. It can also be manually activated after browning or cooking modes. The keep warm function lasts for 4 hours and can be cancelled at any time by pressing the cancel button (B3).
Before cleaning, always switch the slow cooker to sleep mode by holding down button B5 for 3 seconds, then disconnect the power cord. Allow the appliance to cool down completely before removing the lid (A3) or cooking bowl (A6). The removable cooking bowl (A6), glass lid (A3), and steamer insert (A4) can be washed in hot water with detergent, rinsed, and dried thoroughly. The cooking bowl (A6) is also dishwasher-safe. For baked-on food remains, soak the cooking bowl in hot water with detergent for 20-30 minutes, then use a soft kitchen brush.
Ensure the slow cooker is completely cool, clean, dry, turned off, and disconnected from the power socket before storage. Place the cooking bowl (A6) into the slow cooker unit (A8) and lock the lid (A3) to it. Store the appliance in a clean, dry place, out of reach of children, and away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, excessive humidity, and dusty environments. Do not place anything on top of the slow cooker.
