The Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop System is a comprehensive cleaning solution designed for both deep steam cleaning and quick everyday tasks. This system combines the power of a steam mop with the versatility of a spray mop, offering efficient and simple cleaning for various hard-floor surfaces.
The core function of the Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop System is to clean and sanitize sealed hard-floor surfaces using steam. It operates by heating water to produce steam, which is then delivered through a specialized mop head and Dirt Grip™ pads to loosen and remove dirt, grime, and stains. The system includes a Steam Pocket Mop for steam cleaning and a Spray Pocket™ Mop for quick, everyday cleaning with a cleaning solution.
The Steam Pocket Mop features an Automatic Steam Control with a single setting optimized for cleaning sealed surfaces and large areas, basic everyday cleaning, removing spots and smaller messes, and tackling moderate to heavy traffic areas. A key feature is the Steam Blaster™ nozzle, which provides a concentrated burst of steam for tough, stuck-on stains. This is activated by flipping the mop head behind the mop body and tilting the handle down. The mop is designed to sanitize surfaces, requiring 30 seconds to begin producing steam and three minutes of mopping to be ready for sanitization, which is achieved by moving the unit over the area at least 15 times.
The Spray Pocket™ Mop offers a non-steam option for quick clean-ups. It utilizes a spray bottle, which comes pre-filled with cleaner, to dispense solution onto the floor, allowing users to wipe away spills and dirt efficiently. The spray bottle can be refilled with the cleaner of choice, providing flexibility for different cleaning needs.
The Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop System is designed for ease of use and versatility. Assembly involves inserting the handle and mop head until they click into place. The Dirt Grip™ pads are attached hands-free by spreading the pad on the floor, centering the mop head, and pressing the pad release button to open the head, allowing the corner tabs to slip into the pad's pockets. The water tank is easily filled using a provided filling flask or by pouring water directly into the tank, with a clear water line to prevent overfilling.
For steam cleaning, the unit is plugged into an electrical outlet, and the Steam Button is pressed to activate steam production. A blue light indicates standby (blinking) and active steam mode (steady glow). The mop cleans with a simple forward and backward motion. The Steam Blaster™ feature is engaged by tilting the mop handle down after flipping the head, providing targeted steam for stubborn spots. To stop steam, the Steam Control button is pressed, returning the unit to standby.
The Spray Pocket™ Mop is ready for immediate use once the mop head and pad are attached. The spray bottle clips onto the handle for convenient access during cleaning.
Safety features are integrated into the design. The mop has a polarized plug for safe electrical connection. Users are warned against using the Steam Mop on unsealed wood or unglazed ceramic floors, as well as on delicate, steam-sensitive materials like leather, wax-polished furniture, synthetic fabrics, and velvet. It is recommended to test an isolated area of the surface before proceeding, especially on waxed or no-wax floors where the sheen might be affected. The system also emphasizes not adding cleaning solutions, scented perfumes, oils, or other chemicals to the water tank, as this can damage the unit and create unsafe conditions. Distilled water is recommended, especially in hard-water areas, to prolong the life of the Steam Mop.
Maintenance of the Shark Genius Steam Pocket Mop System focuses primarily on the Dirt Grip™ pads and general care of the unit. The Dirt Grip™ pads are washable and reusable, designed for machine washing separately with warm water and liquid detergent. It is crucial to avoid bleach, powdered detergent, or fabric softeners, as these can damage the microfiber fabric and reduce cleaning performance and absorbency. The pads should be line-dried or tumble-dried on a low setting to extend their lifespan. Loose fibers on the pads can be trimmed with scissors to prevent the weave from coming undone. For optimal cleaning results, it is recommended to replace Dirt Grip™ pads every 3 to 4 months, as dirt, grease, friction, and repeated washing can cause the fibers to break down, impacting performance.
After each use, the Steam Mop should be unplugged and allowed to cool in an upright position. The Dirt Grip™ pad is removed hands-free by lifting the mop until the head hangs down, then pressing the release button. The Genius Mop Head can also be detached by pressing its release button. The water tank should be emptied before storage by leaning the unit over a sink with the lid open. The Steam Mop can be stored by hanging it by its handle on a hook, and the filling flask can be attached to the handle pole for convenient storage.
For external cleaning of the Steam Mop, the power cord should be unplugged, and the unit wiped with a dry or damp cloth. Alcohol, benzene, or paint thinner should not be used. If the main steam nozzle or Steam Blaster™ nozzle is believed to be clogged, customer service should be contacted. The manual also advises against leaving a damp/wet Dirt Grip™ pad on any floor for an extended period to prevent surface damage.
