This document is an instruction manual for the Shark DuoClean Powered Lift-Away with Anti Hair Wrap Brush-Roll Upright Vacuum, specifically the PZ1000UK Series.
Function Description
The Shark DuoClean Powered Lift-Away with Anti Hair Wrap Brush-Roll Upright Vacuum is a versatile cleaning appliance designed for household use. Its primary function is to effectively clean various floor surfaces, including thick carpets, area rugs, low-pile carpets, and hard floors, as well as above-floor areas using its Lift-Away and accessory modes. The "DuoClean" technology implies the presence of two brush-rolls working in conjunction to tackle different types of debris and surfaces. The "Powered Lift-Away" feature allows the user to detach the main pod from the floor nozzle, transforming the upright vacuum into a portable canister-style vacuum for cleaning stairs, upholstery, and other hard-to-reach areas with powered brush-roll suction. The "Anti Hair Wrap Brush-Roll" is a key feature designed to prevent hair from tangling around the brush-roll, ensuring consistent performance and reducing maintenance.

- Surface Selector: A slide switch with three settings:
- Thick Carpet & Area Rug Cleaning: Top position, suitable for deep cleaning thick carpets and delicate area rugs.

- Upright Mode: Standard upright vacuuming, where the user steps on the floor nozzle and tilts the handle back to engage the brush-rolls.
- Above-Floor Cleaning (Handle): Pressing the Handle Release latch detaches the handle from the wand, allowing for cleaning with accessories attached directly to the handle.
- Above-Floor Cleaning (Wand): Pressing the Wand Release button detaches the wand from the pod, providing extended reach for cleaning with accessories.

- Brush-Roll Indicator Light: Provides visual feedback on brush-roll status:
- Solid Green: Brush-rolls are spinning and functioning correctly.
- Solid Red: Indicates a jam in the brush-roll area, requiring the user to turn off, unplug, and clear blockages.
- Flashing Red: Signifies that the motorised floor nozzle is overheating, prompting the user to turn off, unplug, clear blockages, and allow the vacuum to cool for at least 60 minutes.
- Cord Management: Features an upper cord hook that rotates for easy cord access and removal, and a lower cord hook for secure storage.
- Accessory Posts: Located on the pod for convenient storage of included accessories.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for optimal performance and longevity of the vacuum:
- Dust Cup Emptying:
- To remove: Press the release button on top of the pod, tilt the dust cup away from the wand, and lift.
- To empty: Press the lower release button to open the bottom of the dust cup and release debris into a bin.
- Lint Screen Cleaning: Press top release buttons on either side of the handle and lift the handle to access and clean the lint screen.
- Reinstallation: Place the bottom of the dust cup into the pod and tilt until it clicks into place.
- Recommendation: Empty when or before debris reaches the max fill line.
- Filter Cleaning and Replacement:
- Pre-Motor Filters: Located under the dust cup. Should be cleaned every month by rinsing with cold water only (no soap) and air-drying completely for at least 24 hours. Replacement is recommended every 2.5 years.
- Post-Motor Filter: Located at the bottom of the unit. Should be cleaned every year by pressing the button on the filter housing, pulling it forward, and pressing a black tab to release the filter. Rinse with cold water only (no soap) and air-dry completely for at least 24 hours. Replacement is recommended every 3 years.
- Anti Hair Wrap Brush-Roll Maintenance:
- The brush-roll is designed to be self-cleaning. If hair is wrapped, continue vacuuming on carpet/low pile mode or a bare floor surface to allow the brush-roll to remove it and send it to the dust cup.
- If hard/sharp objects are encountered or a noise change occurs, check for blockages.
- If fibres remain after continued use, manually clear them.
- Soft Roller Cleaning:
- Slide the Soft Roller access button forward to release the Soft Roller from the nozzle.
- Hand wash with water only and allow to air-dry completely for at least 24 hours before reinserting.
- Checking for Blockages:
- Hose Blockage: Detach the hose from the vacuum pod and check both ends.
- Wand Blockage: Detach the wand from the floor nozzle and handle, and check both ends.
- Pod Blockage: Detach the wand from the floor nozzle, tilt the nozzle neck back, and check the opening for blockages.
- Handle/Hose Blockage: Detach the handle from the wand and the hose from the vacuum pod, and check openings.
- Nozzle Hose Blockage: Open the locks on the bottom of the nozzle by turning them counterclockwise with a coin, then lift the cover to clear any blockages.
- Troubleshooting Guide: The manual includes a section for common issues like no suction, brush-roll not spinning, or the vacuum turning off, providing steps for diagnosis and resolution, including checking filters, emptying the dust cup, clearing blockages, and allowing the unit to cool if overheating.
Safety Instructions
The manual emphasizes several safety precautions:
- General Warnings: Use only identical replacement parts, inspect for damage before use, do not use an extension cord, and note that the vacuum contains electrical connections with no serviceable parts.
- Use Warnings: Supervise children, do not allow children to use the appliance as a toy, do not handle the plug or vacuum with wet hands, do not use without filters, use only Shark branded parts, avoid damaging the power cord, do not pick up liquids, large/hard/sharp objects, large quantities of dust from power tools, smoking/burning objects, flammable/combustible materials, or toxic materials.
