Overview

This document describes an extractor hood, a kitchen appliance designed to remove cooking fumes, odors, and steam from the air. It can operate in two primary modes: exhaust air mode and circulating air mode, each with specific installation and operational requirements.

Function Description

The primary function of the extractor hood is to maintain air quality in the kitchen by extracting airborne particles and gases produced during cooking. In exhaust air mode, the air drawn into the appliance passes through grease filters, which trap fatty deposits, and is then conveyed to the exterior of the building via a pipe system. This mode effectively removes pollutants from the kitchen environment. For this mode, a flue duct must be fitted, and it's crucial that the exhaust air is not directed into a functioning smoke or exhaust gas flue, or a shaft used for ventilating rooms with heat-producing appliances, without proper consent from a heating engineer. If exhaust air is conveyed through an outer wall, a telescopic wall box is recommended.

In circulating air mode, the drawn-in air is cleaned by both grease filters and an activated carbon filter before being recirculated back into the kitchen. This mode is particularly useful when external venting is not feasible. For effective odor binding in this mode, an activated carbon filter must be installed. The flue duct is not required for circulating air mode. Unrestricted operation of the hood is possible in this mode, as it does not interfere with room air-dependent heat-producing appliances.

The appliance features a fan with multiple speed settings (1, 2, 3) and an intensive mode. The fan speed can be adjusted to match the intensity of cooking fumes, with lower speeds consuming less energy. The intensive mode is designed for situations with a large build-up of odors and fumes/vapors, automatically reverting to fan setting 3 after approximately 6 minutes. Some models may also feature a "powerBoost position" where the glass front can be adjusted to an intermediate position to eliminate particularly strong cooking smells and large amounts of steam. The hood also includes independent lighting, which can be switched on and off as needed.

Usage Features

To maximize effectiveness, it is recommended to switch on the extractor hood when cooking begins and switch it off several minutes after cooking has finished. This ensures the most efficient removal of kitchen fumes. Users can select fan settings by touching the corresponding symbols on the control panel. The lighting can be operated independently of the fan.

The appliance is designed for domestic use and should not be left unattended during operation. It is suitable for use up to a maximum height of 2000 meters above sea level. Children over 8 years old and individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capacity, or lack of experience, can use the appliance if supervised or properly instructed and aware of the risks. Children under 8 years old should be kept away from the appliance and its power cable.

Safety is paramount during use. Users must ensure adequate fresh air in the room when operating the appliance in exhaust air mode simultaneously with room air-dependent heat-producing appliances (e.g., gas, oil, wood, or coal-operated heaters). This prevents the risk of poisoning from flue gases being drawn back into the living space due to a partial vacuum. The partial vacuum in the room where the heat-producing appliance is installed must not exceed 4 Pa (0.04 mbar).

Users should never operate the appliance without a grease filter, as fatty deposits can catch fire. Naked flames should be avoided near the appliance, and hot oil and fat should never be left unattended. Water should not be used to extinguish burning oil or fat; instead, the hotplate should be switched off, and flames carefully extinguished with a lid, fire blanket, or similar. Gas burners should only be operated with cookware placed on them, as prolonged operation without cookware can generate excessive heat and damage the hood. Similarly, operating multiple gas burners on the highest flame for more than 15 minutes should be avoided.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are essential for the safe and efficient operation of the extractor hood. The metal mesh grease filters, which trap fatty deposits, must be cleaned regularly (recommended every 2 months) to prevent fire hazards. These filters can be cleaned either by hand or in a dishwasher. For hand cleaning, soak the filters in hot soapy water, clean with a brush, rinse thoroughly, and allow them to drain on absorbent material. Special degreasers can be used for stubborn dirt. When using a dishwasher, use normal domestic dishwashing detergents, avoid cleaning heavily soiled filters with cookware, ensure ample space around the filters, and select a temperature no higher than 50 °C. Slight discoloration of the filters may occur in the dishwasher but does not affect performance.

When cleaning the metal grease filters, the metal grease filter holder in the appliance should also be cleaned with a damp cloth.

The appliance surfaces should be cleaned with appropriate products to avoid damage. Stainless steel surfaces should be cleaned with hot soapy water and a soft cloth, always in the direction of the grain. Special stainless steel cleaning products can also be used. Painted surfaces should be cleaned with hot soapy water and a damp cloth. Aluminum and plastic parts can be cleaned with hot soapy water and a soft cloth. Glass surfaces should be cleaned with glass cleaner and a soft cloth, avoiding glass scrapers. Controls should be cleaned with hot soapy water and a damp cloth, ensuring no moisture penetrates the electronic circuitry. Harsh, abrasive, high-alcohol content, or descaling cleaning agents, as well as high-pressure or steam cleaners, should not be used.

Before cleaning, the appliance should be allowed to cool down, and the mains plug should be pulled out or the circuit breaker in the fuse box switched off to prevent electric shock. Protective gloves should be worn during maintenance to avoid injury from sharp edges inside the appliance.

Defective LED lights should only be replaced by the manufacturer, customer service, or a qualified electrician. Users should avoid looking directly into switched-on LED lights for more than 100 seconds due to the dazzling light.
