Overview

This document serves as a user manual and installation guide for a Siemens extractor hood, distributed by ImportAppliances. It provides comprehensive instructions for safe operation, maintenance, and installation, ensuring users can maximize the convenience, quality, and affordability of their new kitchen appliance.

Function Description

The extractor hood is designed for domestic use to remove cooking fumes, odours, and vapours from the kitchen environment. It operates by drawing air from the cooking area, filtering it, and then either discharging it outside (exhaust air mode) or recirculating it back into the kitchen after purification (circulating-air mode). The appliance features multiple fan settings, including an intensive mode for heavy fumes and a boost function for a brief period of maximum power. It also includes integrated lighting to illuminate the cooking surface.

The control panel allows users to:

  • Turn the fan on/off: Activate or deactivate the extraction fan.
  • Control lighting: Switch the integrated lights on or off, and adjust their brightness.
  • Adjust fan speed: Increase or decrease the fan's power to match the intensity of cooking fumes.
  • Activate intensive mode: Provides a temporary boost in extraction power for strong odours and vapours, automatically reverting to a lower setting after approximately 6 minutes.
  • Engage boost function: Offers a short burst of maximum extraction power, useful for sudden increases in steam or smoke, and automatically returns to the previous fan setting after about 20 seconds.
  • Set fan run-on time: Allows the fan to continue operating at a low setting for approximately 10 minutes after cooking to clear residual fumes, then switches off automatically.

The appliance is equipped with indicators for metal grease filter saturation and activated charcoal filter saturation, prompting users when cleaning or replacement is necessary. It supports both exhaust air and recirculation modes, with specific instructions for switching between them.

Usage Features

The extractor hood is designed for user-friendly operation and energy efficiency.

  • Optimal Fume Removal: To effectively remove kitchen fumes, it is recommended to switch on the extractor hood at the start of cooking and keep it running for several minutes after cooking is finished.
  • Fan Speed Adjustment: Users should adjust the fan speed according to the amount of steam produced during cooking. Lower fan speeds consume less energy, while higher speeds are necessary for large amounts of steam. Intensive mode should be reserved for when it is truly needed.
  • Lighting Control: The lighting can be operated independently of the fan, allowing users to illuminate their cooking area as required. The brightness can be adjusted by pressing and holding the light symbol.
  • Air Recirculation Mode: For homes where external venting is not feasible, the circulating-air mode provides an effective alternative. The electronic controller needs to be switched over to this mode, and activated charcoal filters are used to purify the air before it is returned to the kitchen.
  • Audible Signal: An audible signal can be activated or deactivated to provide an acknowledgement when certain functions are engaged.
  • Safety in Operation: The manual emphasizes critical safety information, including the importance of adequate fresh air supply when operating the appliance in exhaust air mode simultaneously with room air-dependent heat-producing appliances (e.g., gas heaters) to prevent the risk of poisoning from flue gases. It also warns against working with naked flames near the appliance and leaving hot fat or oil unattended due to fire risk.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the appliance's performance, safety, and longevity.

  • Grease Filter Cleaning: The metal mesh grease filters should be cleaned regularly (recommended every 2 months) to prevent the accumulation of fatty deposits, which can pose a fire risk. These filters can be cleaned either by hand in hot soapy water or in a dishwasher using normal domestic dishwashing detergents at a temperature of no more than 70 °C. The saturation indicator will flash when cleaning is due.
  • Activated Charcoal Filter Replacement: For appliances operating in circulating-air mode, activated charcoal filters need regular replacement. Non-renewable filters should be replaced twice a year. The saturation indicator will signal when replacement is necessary.
  • General Cleaning: The appliance surfaces, including stainless steel, painted surfaces, aluminium, plastic, glass, and controls, should be cleaned with hot soapy water and a soft cloth. Specific cleaning instructions are provided for each material, emphasizing the avoidance of harsh, abrasive, or high-pressure cleaning agents to prevent surface damage or electric shock. Stainless steel surfaces should be cleaned in the direction of the grain.
  • Preventing Corrosion: To avoid condensation and subsequent corrosion damage, the appliance should always be switched on during cooking.
  • Damage Prevention: Users are advised to remove the protective film from all parts of the appliance before first use. Care should be taken during installation and cleaning to avoid damaging the appliance's sensitive surfaces and internal components.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a troubleshooting section to help users identify and resolve common issues, such as the appliance not working, lighting malfunctions, or button illumination failures, before contacting customer service.
  • Professional Repairs: For defective LED lights or complex repairs, users are instructed to contact the manufacturer's customer service or a qualified technician, as incorrect repairs can be dangerous and void warranties.
