Overview

This document is a user manual for a Siemens extractor hood, providing comprehensive information on its function, installation, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Siemens extractor hood is designed for domestic use to remove cooking fumes, steam, and odors from the kitchen environment. It supports two primary operating modes:

  1. Exhaust Air Mode: In this mode, air drawn into the appliance is cleaned by grease filters and then conveyed to the exterior through a pipe system. This mode requires adequate fresh air supply to prevent a partial vacuum, especially when other room air-dependent heat-producing appliances (like gas or wood heaters) are in operation. Proper ventilation measures, potentially involving a Master Chimney Sweep, are crucial for safe operation.
  2. Air Recirculation Mode: Here, the drawn-in air is cleaned by both grease filters and an activated carbon filter before being returned to the kitchen. This mode is suitable for situations where external venting is not feasible or desired, and it allows for unrestricted operation without concerns about negative pressure. An activated carbon filter is essential for odor binding in this mode.

The appliance features a control panel for easy operation, including controls for lighting and fan speed. The fan can be adjusted to various strengths, and an intensive setting is available for heavy odors and fumes, which automatically reduces to a lower setting after approximately six minutes. A fan run-on time feature ensures continued ventilation for about 10 minutes after the filter pull-out is slid in, then automatically switches off. The lighting can be operated independently of the ventilation system.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Operating Height: Intended for use up to a maximum height of 2000 meters above sea level.
  • Appliance Weight: The maximum weight of the extractor hood is 18 kg.
  • Electrical Connection: Requires connection to a protective contact socket. The mains plug of the power cable (approx. 1.30 m long) must be easily accessible after installation. If not, an all-pole isolating switch must be integrated into the permanent electrical installation. A residual-current circuit breaker (RCCB) is recommended.
  • Ducting (Exhaust Air Mode):
    • Round Pipes: Recommended inner diameter of 150 mm, but at least 120 mm.
    • Flat Ducts: Inner cross-section should correspond to the diameter of round pipes (e.g., 150 mm diameter ≈ 177 cm², 120 mm diameter ≈ 113 cm²). Flat ducts should avoid sharp deflections.
    • Pipes/hoses must be made of non-combustible material.
  • Installation Clearances:
    • Minimum distance from the hob to the extractor hood: ≥430 mm (for 60 cm and 90 cm width models).
    • Distance between the appliance and a wall or high-sided unit must be at least 50 mm.
    • The width of the extractor hood must at least correspond to the width of the hob.
    • The fitted unit must be heat-resistant up to 90 °C and sturdy after cut-outs.
    • Wall thickness for mounting: 16 mm or 19 mm.
  • Appliance Dimensions (for installation in a wall-hanging cupboard):
    • Width: 600 mm
    • Depth: Min. 320 mm (Min. 350 mm with lowering frame)
    • Height: Min. 420 mm (Min. 600 mm with CleanAir air recirculation module)
  • Lighting: Uses LED lights (risk group 1). Halogen bulbs may also be present in some variants (HSGST/C/UB-20-230-G9).

Usage Features

  • Control Panel: Intuitive controls for light (on/off), fan (on/off), reducing fan speed, and increasing fan speed/intensive setting.
  • Fan Speed Adjustment: Allows users to select the appropriate fan speed based on the amount of steam produced during cooking, optimizing energy consumption.
  • Intensive Setting: Provides a temporary boost in extraction power for strong odors and fumes, with an automatic reduction to a lower setting after a preset time.
  • Fan Run-on Time: Automatically continues ventilation for a period after the filter pull-out is slid in, ensuring thorough removal of residual fumes.
  • Independent Lighting: The hood's lighting can be switched on or off regardless of the fan operation.
  • Energy Saving Tips: Users are advised to ensure sufficient air supply, adjust fan speed to cooking needs, switch off the hood and lights when not required, and regularly clean/replace filters to maintain efficiency.
  • Safety Features: Includes warnings against operating without grease filters, working with naked flames near the appliance, leaving hot fat/oil unattended, and operating gas burners without cookware.

Maintenance Features

  • Grease Filter Cleaning: Metal mesh grease filters must be cleaned at least every two months to prevent fire hazards from grease deposits. They can be cleaned by hand (soaking in hot soapy water and scrubbing) or in a dishwasher.
  • Bulb Replacement: Instructions are provided for replacing halogen bulbs, emphasizing safety precautions like allowing bulbs to cool and disconnecting power. Only bulbs of the same type and wattage should be used. LED lights are to be replaced by the manufacturer, customer service, or a qualified technician.
  • General Cleaning:
    • Stainless Steel: Clean with hot soapy water and a soft cloth, following the grain direction. Special stainless steel cleaning products can also be used.
    • Painted Surfaces: Clean with hot soapy water and a damp cloth.
    • Aluminium and Plastic: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth.
    • Glass: Clean with glass cleaner and a soft cloth; avoid glass scrapers.
    • Controls: Clean with a damp cloth; never use a wet cloth to avoid damage to electronics.
    • General Precautions: Avoid harsh, abrasive, or high-alcohol cleaning agents, hard scouring pads, and high-pressure/steam cleaners. Always wear protective gloves due to sharp edges inside the appliance.
  • Condensation Prevention: Always switch on the appliance during cooking to prevent condensation, which can cause corrosion damage.
  • Filter Pull-out Limit Stop: On some models, the limit stop for the filter pull-out can be adjusted or shortened using provided spacers to align the handle strip flush with the fitted unit.
