Overview

This document describes a Siemens dishwasher, providing comprehensive instructions for its operation, maintenance, and installation.

The dishwasher is designed for domestic use, specifically for washing household dishes. It features a control panel with various buttons for program selection, timer programming, and additional options, along with a digital display and a display window for showing program information and other details like spray pressure. The appliance interior includes a cutlery drawer, top and bottom baskets, top and bottom spray arms, a tablet collecting tray, intake and blow openings for the Zeolith container, a dispenser for special salt, filters, and a detergent and rinse aid dispenser. Some models may also feature an interior light and a childproof lock.

Function Description:

The primary function of the dishwasher is to clean and dry dishes efficiently. It utilizes a water softening system to prevent limescale deposits, requiring special salt if tap water hardness exceeds 9° Clarke. The amount of salt dispensed can be adjusted based on water hardness. Rinse aid is also dispensed to ensure stain-free utensils and clear glasses, with the dosage adjustable to prevent streaks or water stains.

The dishwasher offers a range of programs tailored to different types of utensils and soiling levels, including Auto programs (65°-75°C and 45°-65°C), Eco 50°C, Auto 35°-45°C, Quick 45°C, and Prerinse. These programs are optimized by sensors to adjust to the degree of soiling.

Additional options enhance the washing process:

  • Express Wash/Speed Perfect (VarioSpeed): Reduces running time by 20-50%, increasing water and energy consumption for optimal cleaning.
  • Half load: Saves water, energy, and time for smaller loads, recommending less detergent.
  • Hygiene: Increases cleaning temperature for enhanced hygiene, ideal for chopping boards and baby bottles.
  • Intensive zone: Intensifies spray pressure and slightly increases rinsing temperature in the lower basket for heavily soiled pots and pans, while normally soiled utensils are washed in the upper basket.
  • High gloss drying: Increases water during the rinse cycle and extends the drying phase to prevent stains and improve drying results, with a slight increase in energy consumption. Rinse aid is recommended.
  • Energy Save: Reduces water and energy consumption by extending the running time for optimum cleaning and drying.

The Aqua sensor, an optical measuring device, monitors rinsing water turbidity. If active, it can transfer "clean" rinsing water to the next rinse bath, reducing water consumption. It also adjusts temperature and running time in automatic programs based on soiling.

Zeolith drying is a key feature, utilizing a mineral that stores moisture and heat energy. During washing, this heat dries the mineral and heats the rinsing water. During drying, moisture is stored in the mineral, releasing heat energy as dry air into the washing compartment, accelerating and improving drying while saving energy.

Usage Features:

  • Loading: Large food remnants should be removed, but prerinse is not necessary. Utensils should be placed securely, with openings facing down, and at an angle for drainage. Spray arm rotation must not be obstructed. Very small utensils should not be washed in the machine.
  • Unloading: To prevent dripping, unload from the bottom up. Hot utensils should be left to cool before handling.
  • Cutlery Drawer: Cutlery should be arranged as illustrated for easy removal. Side shelves and front rows of prongs can be folded down to accommodate larger items.
  • Baskets: The height of the upper basket can be adjusted in three stages to create more space. Folding spikes in the baskets improve arrangement for pans, bowls, and glasses. Some models include a small accessories holder for light-weight plastic items.
  • Detergent: The dishwasher accepts tablets, powder, or liquid detergents (never washing-up liquid). Dosage depends on soiling and detergent type. Combination detergents (3in1, 4in1, 5in1) can be used, but special salt and rinse aid may still be needed if water hardness exceeds 21°dH. The tablet collecting tray should not be used for small parts or as a handle.
  • Starting a Program: Turn on the tap, open the door, switch on the appliance, select a program, press START, and close the door.
  • Timer Programming: The start of a program can be delayed in 1-hour steps up to 24 hours.
  • Interrupting/Terminating a Program: Programs can be interrupted by opening the door and switching off the appliance. To terminate, press START for 3 seconds.

Maintenance Features:

Regular inspection and maintenance are crucial for preventing faults.

  • Machine Condition: Check spray arms for grease and limescale. If present, run the highest temperature program with detergent and no utensils. Clean the appliance with dishwasher-suitable cleaners.
  • Door Seal: Regularly clean with a damp cloth.
  • Exterior: Wipe the front and fascia with a damp cloth and a little washing-up liquid. Avoid abrasive detergents or rough sponges. For stainless steel appliances, prevent corrosion by avoiding sponge cloths or washing them thoroughly before first use.
  • Special Salt and Rinse Aid: Check refill indicators and replenish as needed.
  • Filters: The filter system (coarse, flat fine, and microfilter) prevents large foreign objects from blocking the pump. Filters should be checked for residue after each washing cycle, unscrewed, cleaned under running water, and re-installed correctly.
  • Spray Arms: Check outlet nozzles and bearings for blockages. Unscrew and remove spray arms for cleaning under running water, then re-engage or screw them back on.
  • Waste Water Pump: If blocked by food remnants or foreign objects, disconnect the appliance, remove baskets and filters, scoop out water, remove the pump cover, clear any obstructions from the impeller wheel, and reassemble.
