Overview

The AirPen® Color Dispenser is a handheld, air-powered tool designed for drawing fine decorative details and for color filling intricate engraved areas. It effortlessly dispenses various viscous mediums such as paints, glues, ceramic glazes, and slip, allowing users to create delicate lines, dots, and embellishments without hand fatigue. The device is fully warranted against defects in material and workmanship for one year from the date of purchase.

Technical Specifications and Components:

The AirPen® Color Dispenser system includes several key components:

  • Air Compressor: The core of the system, providing the air pressure necessary for dispensing. It operates with a 100V through 240V DC power adapter.
  • Dispenser Housing (F): The main body of the handheld tool where the cartridge is inserted.
  • Cartridges (A): Five cartridges are included for holding the dispensing medium.
  • Anti-Gravity "Followers" (B): Five followers are provided to help compress contents within the cartridge.
  • Dispensing Tips (C): Fourteen assorted tips are included, allowing for various line widths and detail levels.
  • Storage Caps (D): Five red storage caps are used to seal the end of cartridges to retain contents when not in use.
  • Storage Plugs with Tab (E): Five red storage plugs are used to seal the open end of cartridges for storage or after cleaning.
  • Air Line (K): Connects the air compressor to the dispenser housing.
  • Air Pressure Adjustment Knob: Located on the air compressor, this knob allows for fine-tuning the air pressure.
  • On/Off Button: Located on the air compressor for power control.
  • Cleaning Plunger (G): Used for cleaning cartridges.
  • Puller Tool (H): Used for removing followers and for gently compressing contents into the cartridge.
  • Air Shield (L): A clear shield for "drop string" applications, inserted over the metal knurled band.
  • Flow Control Hole: Located on the dispenser housing, this hole is covered by a finger to initiate and control the flow of the medium.

Usage Features:

  1. Preparation:

    • Screw the air line (K) onto the air compressor and connect the power adapter (J) to the pump.
    • Place a storage cap (D) onto one end of a cartridge (A) to retain its contents.
    • Pipe the desired medium into the cartridge, filling it to about 2/3 full.
    • Insert a 'follower' (B), solid end first, into the cartridge.
    • Use the puller tool (H) to gently compress the contents into the cartridge.
    • Hold the black dispenser housing (F) in one hand. With the other hand, twist the filled cartridge into the housing clockwise, using a downward twisting motion to screw it in securely.
    • Plug the power adapter into an outlet (using an appropriate, locally-available device for universal compatibility if needed) and push the red button to turn on the pump.
    • Remove the storage cap from the cartridge and twist on a green dispensing tip (C). Always ensure tips are clean and openings are clear (light should be visible through them) before attaching.
    • For "drop string" color applications, insert the clear air shield (L) over the metal knurled band.
  2. Dispensing:

    • The AirPen® Color Dispenser should be held with the tip pointing downward to prevent contents from flowing back into the air passages.
    • To begin flow, first touch the dispensing tip onto the desired surface.
    • Lightly cover the entire area of the flow control hole with a forefinger.
    • Lift the finger to stop the flow.
    • The flow speed can be increased or decreased by varying fingertip pressure over the hole or by changing the tip size.
  3. Storage During Use:

    • When not in use, temporarily place filled cartridges, with tips pointed down, into a cup containing a moist paper towel to prevent drying.

Maintenance Features:

  1. Cleaning Dispensing Tips and Followers:

    • Soak dispensing tips and followers in water after each use and prior to cleaning.
    • Important: Never soak or submerge the electric pump or adapter in water.
    • Remove the cartridge from the dispenser, remove the dispensing tip, and remove the follower with the puller tool.
    • Use the plunger (G) to empty the cartridge. A bit of water can help the plunger slide easily.
    • Use the plunger to pull water into the cartridge and flush thoroughly.
    • Dispensing tips can be cleaned similarly by attaching a tip onto the cartridge and flushing with water.
  2. Ending Operation:

    • Remove the dispensing tip and replace it with a storage cap (D).
    • Turn off the air compressor.
    • Remove the cartridge from the housing.
    • Insert a storage plug (E) at the open end of the cartridge, or clean the cartridge as described above.

Additional Tools:

  • Vacuum Pick-Up Tool: This tool is designed for precise pick-up and placement of fine beads, pearls, and embellishments, making it a professional's choice for intricate work. It can be purchased from Amazon.com or Silkpaint.com.
