  If the SimplyShade Tent umbrella lights only function when plugged in, it could be due to a few reasons. First, the solar panel might not be correctly installed; try removing it and reinstalling it, making sure the fixed barrel connectors align properly. Second, the batteries might be dead. In this case, switch the lights to the OFF position and allow the solar panel to charge in sunlight for about 8 hours, or plug in the AC adapter for 6 hours.
