Do you have a question about the Sizewise SW Bari Walker and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The SW Bari Walker™ is a walking assistance device designed to provide stability and security for users while walking. It features a durable steel frame, two non-marring 5 1/4" rubber wheels, and has a weight capacity of up to 750 lbs. (340 kg). Standard features include padded grips, a folded frame width of 7" (18 cm), and height-adjustable options between 31" (79 cm) and 39" (99 cm) in 1” increments. The walker also allows for a 27” (68.5 cm) width between arms.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Overall Width: 30.5" / 77.5 cm
  • Overall Depth: 24.5" / 62 cm
  • Width Between Arms: 27" / 68.5 cm
  • Frame Width Folded: 7" / 18 cm
  • Adjustable Height: 31"-39" / 79 – 99 cm
  • Rubber Wheels: 5.25" / 13 cm
  • Weight Capacity: 750 lbs. / 340 kg (Exceeding this limit will void the warranty).

Usage Features:

  • Safety First: Users must read and follow all warnings and instructions. Care providers should communicate with the user and work with their doctor, nurse, or therapist to learn safe methods. Good posture and proper body mechanics should always be used, and assistive safe patient handling devices should be utilized if manual lifting or support is necessary.
  • Folding and Unfolding: To fold, pull pins (B) in two places and rotate the handle bar up. Then, pull knobs (C) and fold the sides in. The spring-loaded knobs will automatically lock into position. Rotate the handle bar down over the front. Unfolding is done in reverse order.
  • Height Adjustment: To adjust the height, pull and twist the knobs counter-clockwise on each side. Once the appropriate height is reached, twist the knobs clockwise to lock them in place. This process must be repeated on the opposite side to keep the handle bar level.
  • Proper Use:
    • DO NOT use the walker near an open flame or extreme heat source.
    • Use only manufacturer-authorized parts, accessories, and adapters.
    • DO NOT use the walker with any missing or abnormal parts.
    • Never use on an incline unassisted.
    • Use only on level flooring or smooth ground surfaces free of obstacles.
    • Use with extreme caution on rugs.
  • Center of Balance: The walker's tipping point (forward, backward, or side) depends on the user's center of balance and stability. Users should have assistance until they understand the balance points and how to avoid tipping. Shifts in body position, posture, weight distribution, and sloped surfaces affect stability.
  • Doorways and Obstacles: Ensure the floor area is level and free of obstacles. Threshold strips may need to be removed or covered, or a ramp installed. Users must keep both hands on the handles to maintain control. Avoid propelling the walker by pushing or pulling on objects or doorjambs. When going over an obstacle, lean the upper body slightly forward; when declining, press the upper body backward.
  • Reaching or Leaning: Reaching or leaning affects the user's center of balance. Users should avoid reaching or leaning if it requires shifting their weight. Ask for help or use an extension device. Never reach with both hands, as this can prevent self-correction if the walker tips.
  • Transfers: Transfers are dangerous and require good balance and agility. Care providers should learn proper body positioning and support during transfers. Work with the patient's doctor, nurse, or therapist to learn safe transfer methods. Provide assistance until the patient understands how to avoid slips or falls. Ensure the transfer equipment is stable and will not slide.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Maintenance: The walker requires regular maintenance to uphold performance and avoid premature wear, damage, and injury. Check fasteners, frame, wheels, and legs at indicated intervals (Three Months: Fasteners, Wheels; Six Months: Frame, Legs). Any loose, worn, bent, or distorted items should be checked and/or repaired by an authorized Sizewise Technician.
  • Equipment Safety Checklist:
    • Ensure the walker operates easily and freely, and all parts work smoothly.
    • Check for excess noise, vibration, or changes in ease of use, which may indicate loose fasteners or damage.
  • Replacing the Hand Grip: A Phillips screwdriver and a 10 mm wrench are required. Pull pins under the hand grip in two places. Remove the bolts using the screwdriver and wrench under the other hand grip. Remove the screws on either side underneath. Slide the handle out of the hand grip and replace it.
  • Fasteners: Many screws and bolts are special high-strength fasteners. Contact an authorized Sizewise technician for assistance in finding correct fasteners. Improper fasteners can lead to injury or equipment damage. Use only Sizewise-provided screws and bolts. Tighten loose screws or bolts immediately. Repair or adjust the walker before use if a problem is detected.
  • Cleaning Instructions:
    • General Cleaning: Monitor contact time for cleaning agents. Dilute cleaning solutions according to manufacturer instructions.
    • Recommended Disinfectants: Wex-Cide 128 (EPA Reg. #34810-31) and Clorox Germicidal Wipes (EPA Reg. #67619-12) for Clostridium difficile (C. diff) prevention.
    • C. diff Prevention Steps:
      1. Perform hand hygiene, then put on disposable gloves and eye protection.
      2. Wipe all surfaces of the walker with wipes.
      3. Change wipes often to ensure surfaces remain wet for the required contact time. Discard used wipes.
      4. Remove and discard gloves, perform hand hygiene, then remove eye protection.
    • Cleaning Procedure: Wipe all surfaces with a coarse cloth dampened with disinfectant solution to remove organic material and visible soil. Allow surfaces to remain wet for the recommended contact time. Rinse all surfaces with a clean cloth dampened with fresh water to remove chemical and organic residue. Wipe all surfaces with a clean, dry cloth to remove moisture or residue.
    • Additional Cleaning: Mild soap solution and/or household cleaning products can be used, but avoid harsh chemicals like acetone or paint thinner, as they will damage the paint finish.
    • Steam Cleaning: The product can be steam cleaned to eliminate bacteria and/or infestations.
    • Cleaning Blood and Other Excretions: Wipe up while wet if possible. For dried substances, use ample disinfectant solution to moisten and facilitate cleaning.
  • Storage and Disposal: Store the walker in a dry location to prevent rust. Before using after storage, ensure it is properly adjusted and all components are in working order. The walker should be stored, transported, and operated within a temperature range of -5°C to 45°C (23°F to 113°F). DO NOT expose the walker to humidity greater than 95%. Dispose of end-of-life Sizewise products according to local laws and regulations; contact Sizewise or local authorities for options.
