Do you have a question about the SJE Rhombus 122 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The SJE Rhombus Model 122 Single Phase Duplex control panel is designed for managing two pumps in a single-phase system, typically for wastewater or other liquid level applications. It operates with either three or four float switches to control pump STOP, LEAD pump START, LAG pump START, and high-level ALARM functions. The panel is housed in a UL Type 4X enclosure, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, providing protection against environmental elements.

Function Description:

The Model 122 panel manages the operation of two pumps (LEAD and LAG) based on liquid levels detected by float switches.

  • Pump Control: In AUTO mode, the panel activates pumps based on the liquid level. When the liquid level rises to the LEAD float, the LEAD pump starts. If the level continues to rise to the LAG float, the LAG pump also starts. Both pumps will remain ON until the liquid level drops to the STOP float, at which point both pumps turn OFF. The panel incorporates a lead/lag selector switch, allowing users to alternate which pump acts as the LEAD pump to ensure even wear.
  • Alarm System: A high-level alarm is triggered if the liquid level rises to the ALARM float. When an alarm condition occurs, the red light and horn will be activated. The alarm can be silenced by moving the TEST/NORMAL/SILENCE switch to the SILENCE position; however, the horn will be reactivated if the alarm condition is still present.
  • Hand-Off-Auto (HOA) Switches: Each pump has an HOA switch. In HAND mode, the pump will turn ON. In OFF mode, the pump turns OFF. In AUTO mode, commands from the float switches turn each pump ON and OFF.
  • Auxiliary Contact: The panel includes an auxiliary contact that can be wired normally open or normally closed, providing flexibility for external alarm systems or other control devices.
  • Motor Contactors: Motor contactors control pump switching by switching electrical lines, ensuring reliable operation.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Enclosure: UL Type 4X, suitable for indoor and outdoor use.
  • Phase: Single Phase.
  • Float Switches: Operates with 3 or 4 float switches (STOP, LEAD, LAG, ALARM). Float switches are not included with all configurations and may need to be ordered separately.
  • Power: 120V incoming power terminals.
  • Circuit Breakers: Provides pump disconnect and branch circuit protection.
  • Warranty: Five-year limited warranty.

Usage Features:

  • Float Switch Installation: Float switches must be installed in the tank with free range of motion, ensuring they do not touch each other or any other equipment. Each float and cord end should be labeled with the provided STOP, LEAD, LAG, and ALARM stickers to ensure correct connection. The recommended mounting method uses pipe clamps, with a minimum distance of 3.5 inches (9cm) between the hose clamp band and the float to avoid interference with float operation.
  • Control Panel Mounting: If the distance to the control panel exceeds the length of the float switch cords or the pump power cord, splicing in a liquid-tight junction box is required. For outdoor or wet installations, an SJE Rhombus UL Type 4X junction box is recommended.
  • Visual Indicators: The panel features several LEDs for operational status:
    • Power LED (Green)
    • Float LEDs (Red) x4
    • Pump LEDs (Green for Pump Run, Red for Pump Fail)
    • Dual Seal Fail LEDs (Red) (Optional)
    • Beacon (Red pump light)
  • Audible Alarm: An alarm horn provides an audible alert for high-level conditions or pump failures.
  • Programming Instructions: The panel offers programmable settings for various alarm conditions, including:
    • Pump Fail Alarm: STOP (ON) or OFF. If ON, activates if a pump causes "LAG" 3 cycles in a row.
    • Manual Alarm Reset: LEAD (ON) or OFF. If ON, latches high alarm; clear with external test switch.
    • Seal Fail Horn: LAG (ON) or OFF. If ON, activates horn upon seal fail.
    • Alarm Flasher: ALARM (ON) or OFF. If ON, flashes beacon upon high alarm.
  • Alarm Conditions Table: Provides a clear indication of what each alarm condition (Pump Fail, Seal Fail, Float Fail, High Alarm) signifies, the corresponding beacon status (Flashing, Solid), controller LED status (Red Pump Light, Bad Float Not Lit), and whether the horn is active (Yes/No).
  • Optional Seal Fail Circuitry: Some models may include optional seal fail circuitry to detect pump seal failures.

Maintenance Features:

  • Electrical Safety: A critical warning emphasizes disconnecting all power sources before servicing to prevent serious injury or death. Installation and servicing must be performed by a licensed electrician in accordance with the National Electric Code NFPA-70 and local electrical codes.
  • Enclosure Seal: The Type 4X conduit must be sealed to prevent moisture or gases from entering the panel.
  • Warranty Voidance: The warranty is void if the panel is modified.
  • Technical Support: SJE Rhombus provides technical support via phone (+1-800-746-6287) and email (techsupport@sjeinc.com) during business hours (Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM Central Time).
  • Return Policy: Products returned for service must be cleaned, sanitized, or decontaminated to ensure employee safety during handling, adhering to all applicable laws and regulations.
