Do you have a question about the SJE Rhombus NEX Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The SJE Rhombus NEX Series™ CE12 Duplex is a smart pump controller designed for single-phase, duplex pump applications in water and wastewater systems. It is engineered to manage two single-phase pumps and offers a range of features for efficient and reliable operation.

Function Description:

The CE12 Duplex control panel operates by monitoring liquid levels using 2 to 4 float switches. These floats activate various functions including LEAD & LAG pump stop, LEAD pump START, LAG pump START, and a high-level alarm. When the liquid level rises to the top float switch, an audible and visual alarm is triggered. The controller supports multiple control modes, selectable via a DIP switch, and includes backup control logic for float switch faults, ensuring continuous operation. It also features pump fault detection with automatic switching between pumps, short circuit protection, pump overload protection, PSE protection, and pump over-temperature protection. A weekly test run function is also integrated to ensure system readiness.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Input Voltage: Single phase, 110/220/240VAC, 50/60Hz.
  • Rated Motor Current: 2.5A to 12.5A.
  • Application Temperature: -5°C to 40°C.
  • Application Humidity: 50% at 40°C, non-condensing.
  • Altitude: < 2000m.
  • Enclosure: Polycarbonate, with dimensions of 254mm (H) x 203mm (W) x 102mm (D).
  • Protection Grade: IP65.
  • Flame Retardant Rating: UL94 5VA.

Usage Features:

The control panel offers flexible operation modes and settings:

  • Float Switch Configuration: The panel can be configured to operate with 2, 3, or 4 float switches.
    • 2 Float Switches: The STOP/LEAD float controls the Lead pump ON/OFF. The LAG/ALARM float activates the Lag pump and alarm. Both pumps remain ON until the STOP/LEAD float opens, and pumps alternate starting.
    • 3 Float Switches: The STOP/LEAD float controls the Lead pump ON/OFF. The LAG float activates the Lag pump. The ALARM float triggers the alarm. Both pumps remain ON until the STOP/LEAD float opens, and pumps alternate starting.
    • 4 Float Switches: The STOP float keeps the panel inactive until the LEAD float closes, turning the Lead pump ON. The LAG float turns the Lag pump ON. The ALARM float activates the alarm. Pumps remain ON until their respective floats return to OFF positions.
  • Hand-Off-Auto (HOA) Switches:
    • HAND mode: Pump turns ON.
    • OFF mode: Pump turns OFF.
    • AUTO mode: Float switches control pump ON/OFF.
  • DIP Switch Settings:
    • Position 1 (Overload protection reset method): Auto or Manual.
    • Position 2 (PSE protection): Enable or Disable.
    • Position 3 (Weekly exerciser): Enable or Disable.
    • Position 4 (Float connection): 2 or 3 floats, or 4 floats.
  • Current Setting Switch: Allows setting the rated current of the pump to activate overload protection.
  • Alarm Horn/Beacon: An audible horn and red LED beacon activate during alarms. The alarm can be tested and silenced using a dedicated switch.
  • Modbus RTU Support: Equipped with an RJ45 port for Modbus RS485 communication, allowing for remote monitoring and control. This includes reading device name, address, baud rate, float statuses, pump overload/fault statuses, running cycle counters, and running time meters. It also allows for resetting alarms and faults.

Maintenance Features:

The CE12 Duplex includes several protection and alarm features to aid in maintenance and troubleshooting:

  • Pump Overload Protection/Alarm: Detects current overloads. If an overload occurs, the system attempts 3 auto-resets. If the problem persists, manual reset is required.
  • Pump Over-Temperature Protection/Alarm: Monitors pump internal temperature via a thermoswitch. If the temperature rises, the pump shuts down, and an alarm is triggered.
  • Pump System Efficiency (PSE) Protection: An advanced algorithm monitors tank fill time and discharge times to detect inefficiencies or blockages, triggering an alarm if issues are found. This function can be enabled/disabled via DIP switch.
  • Pump Fault Detection (Duplex Panel): Detects pump faults and automatically switches to the other pump. Faults can be manually reset.
  • Float Fault Alarm: Detects float switch faults and switches to a backup control program to ensure continuous operation. Faults can be reset automatically or manually.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: The manual provides detailed error lists for pump errors, float switch errors, and other issues, along with possible causes and solutions.
  • Reset Modbus Parameters to Default Setting: A procedure is available to reset Modbus parameters by turning off power, setting the pump running mode to OFF, pressing and holding the TEST/SILENCE button, and then turning on the power.

Installation Considerations:

  • Safety: Emphasizes the importance of disconnecting power before installation or maintenance, grounding the unit, and ensuring pumps are fully primed. Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in compliance with electrical regulations.
  • Environment: The panel should be installed in sheltered, well-ventilated, non-hazardous environments, with temperatures between -5°C and +40°C.
  • Float Switch Installation: Floats must be properly mounted and connected in the correct order to ensure proper pump function. Clear illustrations are provided for 2, 3, and 4 float switch configurations.
  • Wiring: Detailed wiring diagrams are provided, and cable glands must be used to prevent moisture or gases from entering the panel.
  • Mounting: Instructions for drilling and installing top and bottom fasteners are included. If float switch cords or pump power cords exceed their length, a liquid-tight junction box (SJE-Rhombus, IP66 recommended for outdoor/wet installations) may be required for splicing.

Warranty:

SJE-Rhombus offers a two-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects from the date of consumer purchase. The warranty covers repair or replacement of defective components but excludes damage from lightning, improper installation, abuse, misuse, accidents, negligence, non-compliance with codes, or unauthorized repairs/modifications. Consumers are responsible for removal, reinstallation, and freight costs for warranty service.
