FLYING WITH THE RANGE X-ALPS HARNESS
PRE-FLIGHT CHECK
To maximize your safety, it is best always to follow the same routine when you do your
pre-flight check.
CHECK THAT:
> no visible damage to the harness or carabiners is present that can affect airworthiness.
> the reserve parachute container is correctly closed and is connected to the harness,
and that the splints are threaded completely through the loops, and that the rescue
handle is correctly mounted.
> all buckles, straps and zippers are shut and secured. Give each strap a light tug to verify
this. If snow or sand is present, then pay especially close attention.
> the paraglider is correctly hooked to the harness and that both carabiners are correctly
closed and secure.
> the speedbar is properly hooked into the speed system in the risers.
> all pockets are closed and that no loose items are hanging around.
> the air inlets of the ram-air protector are open. This will avoid a malfunction of the
ram-air protector.
> again, all leg and chest straps are closed before you launch!
WHAT TO DO IF YOU NEED TO DEPLOY THE RESERVE PARACHUTE
> Look for the rescue handle and grip it firmly in one hand.
> Pull the handle firmly to the side to remove the reserve parachute from the
container of the harness.
> Make sure that you throw the reserve parachute into a free and open area.
> If possible, throw the reserve parachute in the opposite direction of any rotation and let
go of the rescue handle!
> As soon as the reserve parachute opens, try to keep it from getting caught in your
paraglider and avoid any oscillations. It’s best to pull the paraglider toward you using the
A, B, C or D lines, or with the brake lines.
> When you land, stand as straight as possible and try to use the parachute landing fall
technique to minimize your risk of injury.
SIZE RECOMMENDATION
The sizes recommended by skywalk are only for guidance and can vary depending on your
physique. We recommend the following steps to determine the right size and adjustment:
> BACK LENGTH:
The back length is ideal when the harness extends to the upper cervical spine
between C1 and C7.
> SPEEDBAG LENGTH:
The speedbag can be adjusted using the knot string on the footboard as mentioned in
section 5 “Assembly”. Select the length so that the elastic material of the speedbag is
slightly under tension. If the pilot’s height corresponds to the selected size but the back of
the harness does not quite fit right, try adjusting the length of the speedbag.
> DYNEEMA MOUNTS:
The Dyneema mounts for the main carabiners located directly underneath the seat
area cannot be adjusted and should be under tension. For example, if the second mount
(viewed from the front edge of the seat looking toward the back) is not under tension,
then the speedbag is probably set too short and the pilot is sitting too high in the harness.
