Overview

This document describes the SMART SENSOR® Model AR8100 Oxygen Detector, a precise measurement apparatus designed for detecting oxygen content.

Function Description:

The device is an oxygen (O2) detector capable of measuring oxygen content within a range of 0-25% (volume size). It displays the oxygen volume on an LCD screen. The primary function is to provide acoustic-optic alarming when the measured oxygen value falls below preset alarming thresholds, indicating potentially hazardous conditions. It also features temperature measurement and display. The sensor operates on an electrochemical principle and has a service life of two years, after which it can be replaced.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Detection Gas: Oxygen (O2)
  • Measuring Range: 0-25%
  • Resolution: 0.1%
  • Basic Error: Less than ±0.1%
  • Response Time: Less than 50 seconds
  • Recovery Time: Less than 50 seconds
  • Principle of Sensor: Electrochemical, with a two-year lifespan.
  • Battery: 3 x 1.5V AA batteries
  • Display: Large screen liquid crystal display with highlight backlight.
  • Alarming Method: Acoustic and optical double alarm. Alarm values are settable, and the alarm sound is approximately 80 dB.
  • Working Temperature: -20 to 50 °C
  • Working Humidity: 0-95% RH (Non-Gel)
  • Over Measurement Range Display: "--OL--"
  • Battery Service Life: Approximately 100 hours of continuous use (without backlight).
  • Size: 182 x 66 x 32 mm

Usage Features:

The device is designed for ease of use with multiple functions and an ergonomic case.

  • Power On/Off: Press the "①" button to power on.
  • Backlight Control: The backlight can be switched on or off by slightly touching the "③" button.
  • Alarm Grade Setup: Users can set two alarming lines (Grade 4 and Grade 2) for oxygen concentration. This involves navigating through measurement modes using the "MODE" button (④), adjusting values with the "②" (decrement) and "③" (increment) buttons, and saving settings. The factory default for Grade 4 is 19.5% and for Grade 2 is 18%.
  • 21% Calibration: The meter can be calibrated to 21% oxygen content in clean air. This involves entering a calibration mode, keeping the meter in clean air for over a minute, and then saving the value.
  • Alarming Indication: When the measurement value is less than the preset Grade 4 alarming line, the buzzer alarms and the yellow indicator (⑤) flickers. If the value falls below the Grade 2 alarming line, the buzzer alarms and the red indicator (⑥) flickers.
  • Automatic Power Off: The meter automatically powers off if no button is pressed for 10 minutes, conserving battery life.
  • Temperature Compensation: Embedded temperature compensation ensures accurate readings within an environment temperature range of -20 to 50℃.
  • Battery Indicator: The LCD displays a battery icon (⑧) that reduces in size as the battery volume decreases. A " " symbol indicates a fully charged battery, while " " indicates the battery needs replacement.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Replacement: The device uses 3 x 1.5V AA batteries, accessible via the battery compartment cover (⑪). It is recommended to replace batteries promptly when the low battery indicator appears.
  • Sensor Replacement: The electrochemical sensor has a service life of two years and can be replaced.
  • Storage: If the meter will not be used for a long period, it is crucial to turn it off and remove the batteries to prevent damage from battery leakage. Removing batteries while the meter is on will cause preset alarm values to be lost, though they will return to previous values when powered on again. To save preset values, the meter must be turned off normally before battery removal.
  • Care: The device is a precise measurement apparatus and should be kept away from water and hot objects (above 60℃) to avoid damage. The sensing tip (⑨) is a high-precision part that must be protected from dirt and damage, as it cannot be repaired under warranty.
  • Calibration: If there is a significant difference between the displayed value in clean air and the 21% value, a 21% calibration is required.

Applications:

This oxygen detector is suitable for various applications, including:

  • Oxygen manufacturing workshops
  • Petroleum refining and petrochemical plants
  • Oxygen content detection in trains and automobiles
  • Oxygen content detection in minerals
  • Oxygen content detection during mountain climbing and in sealed spaces
  • Other industries and plants that use oxygen.
