Do you have a question about the Smeg CVI618NR and is the answer not in the manual?
This document describes a wine cellar appliance, focusing on its functions, usage, and maintenance.
The wine cellar is designed exclusively for storing wine in a domestic setting, ensuring optimal conditions for preserving its aesthetic and functional qualities. It operates using a compression system to maintain a preset temperature, with a fan distributing temperature and reducing condensation. An activated charcoal filter guarantees optimum air quality for wine storage. The appliance features interior lighting, a door with a seal and magnet for perfect insulation, and removable shelves for easy bottle access.
The appliance is turned on by inserting the plug and pressing the ON/OFF key on the control panel. Users can select the desired interior temperature (from 5°C to 20°C) using the increase and decrease keys, with each press changing the temperature by 1°C. The set temperature flashes for about 5 seconds before remaining steadily displayed. To turn off the appliance, the ON/OFF key must be pressed and held for a few seconds.
The interior lighting can be activated or deactivated by pressing the light key. When manually operated, the lighting stays on for a maximum of 15 minutes. The lighting also comes on automatically when the door is opened, with a brighter intensity than when activated via the key.
The fan automatically switches on and off to maintain a constant temperature and suitable climate control. To increase humidity, the fan can be manually activated or deactivated by pressing the fan key. Manual activation is recommended periodically to prevent corks from drying out during long-term storage. If the door is opened, the fan deactivates and reactivates when the door is closed.
The control panel includes an alarm key to turn off audible warnings. The appliance features various alarms to protect wine quality. A temperature alarm indicates the internal temperature is too high or too low relative to the set temperature. This can occur upon first use, after setting a significantly different temperature, when many warm bottles are loaded, or during extended power outages. These are normal occurrences and not faults. The alarm can be deactivated by pressing the alarm button, and the temperature should return to normal storage values. Other alarms include a "door open" warning (text "E5" on display) if the door is left open for over 60 seconds, and "appliance fault" warnings (text "E4", "E6", or "E8" on display) which require switching off the appliance and contacting technical support.
A control lock function prevents accidental operation. It can be activated or deactivated by pressing and holding the Control lock key for at least 3 seconds.
For showrooms, a demo mode can be activated by simultaneously pressing and holding the fan and Control lock keys for five seconds. This mode deactivates the fan and compressor while keeping the control panel active. The display shows "55" for 2 seconds every 2 minutes when in demo mode.
Bottle arrangement: Each shelf can hold up to 6 standard 0.75 litre wine bottles. Tall bottles (e.g., champagne) can be placed sideways, with a maximum of four bottles per shelf. Up to 6 x 0.75 litre bottles can also be placed on the base of the wine cellar, but they should not be placed sideways to prevent them from falling when the door is opened.
The manual provides detailed advice on food storage, specifically recommended serving and storage temperatures for various types of wine, including young and mature whites, rosés, reds, nouveau reds, sparkling wines (Charmat method, Long Charmat method, Traditional method), dessert wines, and fortified/liqueur wines. These recommendations aim to help users enjoy the flavour and bouquet of each wine at its best.
Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the appliance's good condition. The interior walls have a special antibacterial protection that prevents bacterial growth, but they still require regular cleaning.
For cleaning the outside of the appliance, water or alcohol-based liquid detergents (like window cleaning products) can be used. Aggressive detergents and rough sponges should be avoided to prevent surface damage.
The inside of the appliance can be cleaned with diluted liquid detergent, warm water, and a little bit of vinegar.
Removable shelves should be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth, avoiding soaps, detergents, and sponges that could damage the wooden and steel surfaces. The shelves can be extracted from the wine cellar for easier cleaning by opening the door, extracting the shelf, and lifting it upwards. To refit, align the shelf with the four pins of the guide, rest it, and push it inside the wine cellar.
The activated charcoal filter needs to be replaced at least once a year to maintain optimum air quality. To replace it, turn the filter cap 90° to the left or right, extract the cap, replace the filter, and then refit the cap by reversing the initial steps. Replacement filters can be requested from authorised service centres.
Troubleshooting advice is provided for common issues:
Before any cleaning or maintenance, the appliance must be turned off and unplugged from the mains. The power cable should not be pulled to remove the plug. Steam jets, cleaning products containing chlorine, ammonia, or bleach on steel/metallic parts, abrasive/corrosive detergents on glass parts, and rough/sharp metal scrapers should not be used.
