This document describes the Smeg DR72IN dryer, providing essential information for its safe and effective operation, installation, usage, and maintenance.
Function Description
The Smeg DR72IN is a dryer designed for domestic use, specifically for drying laundry that is marked as suitable for machine drying. It operates by circulating air to remove moisture from clothes, collecting lint and condensed water (in condenser models). The dryer offers various programs and auxiliary functions to cater to different fabric types and desired dryness levels, aiming to dry laundry efficiently while minimizing creasing and energy consumption. It is equipped with safety features to prevent overheating and electrical hazards.
Usage Features
The dryer features a control panel with a program selection knob, a display, and buttons for various functions.
- On/Off Button: Used to turn the machine on and off.
- Program Selection Knob: Allows selection of drying programs tailored for different laundry types (e.g., Cottons, Synthetics) and dryness levels (e.g., Extra Dry, Cupboard Dry, Iron Dry). Special programs like "Quick 35 min," "Shirts," "Jeans," "Mix," "Sport," "Wool Finish," "Daily," "Baby," and "Delicates" are also available, along with "Ventilation" for airing clothes without heat. Timer programs (10 to 160 minutes) are provided for achieving specific drying levels at low temperatures.
- Display: Shows the machine's status, remaining time for programs, and spin speed for timer programs. It also indicates warning icons for a full water tank, filter cleaning, and condenser cleaning.
- Start/Pause/Cancel Button: Initiates, pauses, or cancels a selected program. Holding it for 3 seconds cancels the current program.
- Time Delaying Buttons (+/-): Used to set a delayed start for the program, up to 24 hours. The delay time is displayed and counts down.
- Dryness Level Button: Adjusts the desired dryness level, allowing for more or less drying compared to default settings.
- Anti-creasing Button: Activates a 2-hour anti-creasing program that rotates laundry at intervals after the main drying cycle to prevent wrinkles if laundry is not removed immediately.
- Cancel Audio Warning Button: Mutes or adjusts the volume of the audio warning emitted at the end of a program.
- Child-proof Lock: A safety feature that deactivates all buttons (except On/Off) and locks the loading door to prevent accidental program interruption by children. It is activated by pressing the "audio warning" and "anti-creasing" buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds.
- Loading Laundry: Laundry should be placed loosely in the drum without compressing it. It is recommended to sort laundry by type and thickness for optimal drying performance. Overloading the machine is not recommended as it degrades drying performance and can damage the dryer or laundry.
- Adding/Removing Laundry: Laundry can be added or removed during a program by pausing the machine, opening the door, and then restarting. However, adding wet laundry after drying has started can affect the dryness of already dried clothes and extend the program duration.
- Program Progress Indicators: The display shows the progress of a running program through a series of symbols (Drying, Iron, Wardrobe (Extra), Anti-creasing, Ventilation) that light up as each step is completed.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the dryer's performance and longevity.
- Filter Cleaning: The lint filter, located behind the loading door, collects lint and fibers during each drying cycle. It must be cleaned before or after every load to ensure proper airflow and drying efficiency. The filter can be cleaned by hand or with a soft cloth. If clogged, it can be washed with water and dried before reinstallation. A warning symbol on the display reminds users to clean the filter.
- Water Tank Draining: In condenser models, water extracted from the laundry is collected in a water tank. This tank must be drained after each drying cycle or when the "Water tank" warning light illuminates. The water can be drained manually by pulling out the drawer or automatically if connected to a wastewater drain using the supplied hose. Condensed water is not drinkable.
- Condenser Cleaning: The condenser, responsible for cooling humid air, should be cleaned regularly (at least once a month or after every 30 drying cycles) to maintain efficiency. This involves opening the kick plate, unlocking and removing the condenser, and cleaning it with pressurized water until it drains clearly. A warning symbol indicates when condenser cleaning is needed.
- Sensor Cleaning: The humidity sensors, which detect laundry dryness, should be cleaned periodically (4 times a year). This involves wiping the metal sensors inside the drum with a soft cloth dampened with vinegar and then drying them. Solvents or harsh cleaning agents should not be used.
- General Cleaning: The inner surface of the cover and door gasket should be cleaned to prevent fiber and dirt accumulation. The exterior of the machine can be wiped with a soft, damp cloth.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides a section with suggested solutions for common problems such as long drying times, wet laundry, the dryer not starting, program interruptions, laundry shrinkage, and issues with warning lights or drum lighting. Users are advised to contact an authorized service agent if problems persist.
