Do you have a question about the Smeg SF4303WMCX and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document describes the Smeg Connect appliance, a household device equipped with Smeg Connect technology that allows users to control it via a smartphone or tablet application. The manual provides comprehensive instructions for setting up, using, and maintaining the appliance, focusing on its connectivity features.

Function Description

The Smeg Connect appliance is designed to integrate into a smart home ecosystem, offering remote control capabilities through a dedicated mobile application. This connectivity allows users to manage various functions of the appliance from their smartphone or tablet, enhancing convenience and flexibility in household tasks. The core function revolves around establishing a secure Wi-Fi connection between the appliance and a mobile device, enabling remote operation and monitoring.

The appliance can operate as a standard "non-connected" electrical domestic appliance when Wi-Fi or data connection is disabled. However, its full potential is realized through the Smeg Connect App, which facilitates remote control. For safety reasons and in compliance with current legislation, certain functions, such as Microwave, Combined microwave, Grill, Vapor Clean, and Pyrolytic functions (where available), can be set but not activated remotely. This ensures user safety while still offering advanced programming options.

The Smeg Connect system includes features for software updates, ensuring the appliance's connectivity software remains current. These updates are typically detected and downloaded automatically when the device is connected to the home WLAN network. While most updates install automatically, some may require user confirmation. During the update process, the appliance's normal operation may be temporarily suspended.

The appliance also provides detailed connection information through its Smeg Connect Menu and the App's Connectivity and Other Info menu. This includes data such as the appliance registration date, network name, Wi-Fi signal strength, MAC address, firmware version of the connectivity card, IPv4 and IPv6 network addresses, and SW Compliance ID. This information is crucial for troubleshooting and requesting technical assistance.

Usage Features

To use the Smeg Connect appliance, a Wi-Fi network with an Internet router is required to connect both the appliance and the mobile device. If the Wi-Fi signal is weak, installing a Wi-Fi repeater near the appliance is recommended. When operating outside the Wi-Fi network's range, a data connection on the mobile device is necessary to use the App, though users should be aware of potential additional costs depending on their mobile network operator contract.

The Smeg Connect App is compatible with smartphones or tablets running iOS version 10.x or later or Android version 5.1 or later. The Wi-Fi network must be a 2.4 GHz band and WPA2 protected. Users will need the name and password of their home Wi-Fi network or access to WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) mode.

Product Registration:

The registration process is a key step to enable remote control. It involves alternating operations between the SmegConnect App and the appliance's display.

  1. Download and install the Smeg Connect App from the App Store or Google Play Store.
  2. Launch the App and register by entering the required information (fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory). A confirmation email will be sent upon completion.
  3. Log in to the App and select "Add product" in the "Welcome Username" field.
  4. Choose the type of product (e.g., "oven") on the "Add product" screen.
  5. On the appliance, touch the SETTINGS button, then select SmegConnect, ACCESS, and REGISTRATION.
  6. Select the desired registration procedure: Manual mode or Automatic mode (WPS).

Manual Mode Registration:

  1. On the appliance, select Manual mode.
  2. In the App, select "Proceed with manual registration."
  3. Go to the Wi-Fi settings on your mobile device and connect to the "smegconnect" network using the password "smeg0001."
  4. Return to the Smeg Connect App and touch Next.
  5. On the appliance, press the CONFIRM button within one minute to confirm your presence.
  6. In the App, enter the Access Point information: the name of your home Wi-Fi network (SSID) and its password (key). The appliance supports network names up to 24 characters and WPA2 security settings.
  7. Touch Next in the App and wait for the "Registration completed" screen to appear on the appliance. The Wi-Fi icon on the appliance's display will remain steady, indicating successful registration.

Automatic Mode (WPS) Registration:

  1. On the appliance, select Automatic mode (WPS).
  2. In the App, select "Proceed with automatic registration."
  3. Within two minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
  4. On the appliance, touch the CONFIRM button to confirm your presence.
  5. Wait for the "Registration completed" screen to appear on the appliance. The Wi-Fi icon will remain steady.

After registration, the SETTINGS menu appears on the appliance's display, allowing activation of the remote control. It is crucial to activate the Remote Control in the App to control the appliance.

Connecting the Appliance for Remote Control:

  1. On the appliance, touch the SETTINGS button, then select Connectivity and set it to On.
  2. Touch the CONFIRM button to enable Connectivity.
  3. Select Remote Control and set it to On.
  4. Touch the CONFIRM button to activate the remote connection. The remote control symbol on the appliance's display will change color when enabled. Note that the remote control may be disabled if the appliance door is open, and certain functions cannot be started remotely depending on the appliance's status (e.g., if it's taking in water).

Changing Access Point Credentials:

If you need to change your Wi-Fi network name or password:

  1. Log in to the App.
  2. Access the Product Info screen and select "Change Access Point."
  3. On the appliance, touch the SETTINGS button, then select SmegConnect, ENTER, and "Change Access Point."
  4. Follow the manual mode registration steps from step 1 to 8 to re-establish the connection with the new credentials.

Maintenance Features

The Smeg Connect appliance incorporates features to ensure its proper functioning and allow users to manage their connectivity settings effectively.

Software Updates:

The appliance's connectivity software is periodically updated. These updates are generally automatic when the device is connected to the home WLAN network. Users may occasionally need to confirm an update. During an update, the appliance's normal operation may be temporarily suspended. After an update, the "UPDATE COMPLETED!" message will appear, and the new software version can be verified in the SmegConnect menu under "Wi-Fi FW release."

Deleting Registration:

Users can delete the appliance's registration locally on the product or delete their user registration from the App.

To delete registration on the appliance:

  1. On the appliance, touch the SETTINGS button, then select SmegConnect, ENTER, REGISTRATION, and DELETE.
  2. Touch the CONFIRM button to confirm the cancellation. This procedure only deletes the registration and restores factory settings for the SmegConnect menu. The appliance does not need to be connected to the cloud for this.

To delete user registration from the App:

  1. Go to the "My account" menu in the App and follow the instructions. It's important to remember that local deletion on the appliance does not automatically delete the registration from the App, and vice versa. The product can be registered again after deletion by following the initial registration procedure.

Troubleshooting ("What to do if..."):

The manual provides guidance for common connectivity issues:

  • If "CONNECTION" flashes for more than one minute:
    • Ensure the Wi-Fi router is on and not too far from the appliance.
    • Check the Wi-Fi network (2.4 GHz band) and Internet connection.
    • Verify if a connection was previously activated.
    • Unplug the appliance, ensure it's switched off, then plug it back in and try connecting again.
  • If registration or Access Point change procedures do not work:
    • Check the Wi-Fi router's status and proximity to the appliance.
    • Confirm the Wi-Fi network is 2.4 GHz band and WPA2 security settings are available.
    • Ensure the network name (SSID) does not exceed 32 characters.
    • Check the Internet connection and the mobile device's data connection.
    • Try the procedure again later or unplug and replug the appliance.
  • If "ErrE" appears on the display (appliance faulty): Contact technical support.
  • If "ErrF" appears on the App (appliance faulty): Contact technical support.
