substantial non-skid footwear, and close-tting clothing is
recommended when working outdoors with power tools.
10. Wear protective hair coverings to contain long hair.
11. Always wear safety glasses and ear defenders to
provide eye and ear protection – Everyday eyeglasses
only have impact resistant lenses and do not provide the
same protection as safety glasses.
12. Wear face or dust masks – If the cutting operation is
dusty, the use of a face or dust mask specially designed
to lter out microscopic particles is recommended.
13. Do not overreach – Keep proper footing and balance
at all times.
14. Maintain tools with care – Keep tools sharp and clean
for best and safest performance. Follow instructions for
lubricating and changing accessories.
15. Disconnect tool – Disconnect the pole chain saw from
the power supply when not in use, before servicing,
when transporting, or when changing the chain or other
accessories.
16. Reduce the risk of unintentional starting – Make sure
the switch is in the OFF position before plugging the tool
into a power source.
17. Use recommended accessories – Consult the owner’s
manual for recommended accessories. The use of
improper accessories may cause risk of injury.
18. Check for damaged parts – Before each use, repair or
replace any guard or part that is damaged. In addition,
check for alignment of moving parts, binding of moving
parts, breakage of parts, and any other conditions that
may aect the tool's operation.
19. Never leave tool unattended while it is running – Turn
the power OFF by removing the power cord directly from
its socket. Do not leave the saw until the cutting chain
comes to a complete stop.
20. Avoid unintentional starting – Do not carry the pole
chain saw with your nger on the switch.
21. Do not grasp the exposed cutting blade or cutting
edges when picking up or holding the saw – Be sure to
encase the cutting bar in its protective sheath when not
in use.
22. Stay alert – Watch what you are doing. Use common
sense. Do not operate the pole chain saw when you are
tired.

Usage Features:

  • Safety First: Emphasizes reading all safety instructions before use, including warnings about electric shock, kickback, and personal injury. Operators must wear proper apparel, safety glasses, ear defenders, and face/dust masks.
  • Work Area: Keep the work area clean, well-lit, and clear of branches and limbs. Bystanders, children, and pets must be kept at a safe distance.
  • Environmental Conditions: Do not use in damp, wet locations, or rain. Avoid operating near overhead wires (maintain 50 ft/15 m clearance) or other grounded objects like pipes, fences, and metal posts.
  • Extension Cord: Requires a UL-, CSA-, or ETL-rated outdoor, all-weather extension cord. A polarized plug is used to reduce electric shock risk. An extension cord chart specifies minimum wire gauge (16 AWG for up to 50 ft/15 m, 14 AWG for 50-100 ft/15-30 m). A cord restraint hook or knot is recommended to prevent disconnection.
  • Operation:
    • Starting: Push and hold the safety lock button with the thumb, then squeeze the On/Off switch with fingers. Release the safety lock button once running.
    • Stopping: Release the On/Off switch.
    • Grip: Always use two hands, gripping the trigger with one hand and the pole with the other, with thumbs and fingers wrapped around. Maintain proper footing and balance.
    • Cutting Technique: Allow the chain to cut; exert only light downward pressure. Do not force the tool. Keep the saw running at full speed during cutting.
    • Pruning: Remove long branches in stages, cutting lower branches first. Make finishing cuts smoothly against the main member.
    • Limbing: Cut limbs one at a time, removing them from the work area. Cut branches under tension from the bottom up to avoid binding.
  • Kickback Prevention: The saw includes kickback safety devices (skip chain, low kickback guide bar) but operators must follow precautions: avoid guide bar tip contact, use two hands with a firm grip, keep guards in place, do not overreach, maintain solid footing, cut one branch at a time, do not bury the guide bar nose, watch for shifting wood, use recommended low-kickback parts, and keep the chain sharp and properly tensioned.
  • Oil System: An automatic oil pump lubricates the bar and chain. The oil tank must be filled with bar and chain oil before use. Refill when the oil level drops to 1/4 of a tank.
  • Adjustments:
    • Telescoping Pole: Disconnect from power, unclip cam-lock, extend to desired length, then close cam-lock to secure.
    • Pivot Handle: Switch off and unplug, press pivot button, rotate to desired angle (-30°, 0°, or 30°), then release button. Ensure it locks into position.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: Keep tools sharp and clean. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories. Disconnect the tool from power before servicing, transporting, or changing accessories.
  • Guards: Keep guards in place and check periodically for proper fit and working order.
  • Damaged Parts: Repair or replace any damaged guard or part before use. Check for alignment of moving parts, binding, breakage, and other conditions affecting operation.
  • Chain Tension: Check tension when cold (no sag, snug but rotatable by hand). Adjust by turning the chain tensioner screw. Re-tension if flats on drive links hang out of the bar groove when warm.
  • Chain Sharpening: Recommended to replace the chain when it loses its ability to cut cleanly and safely. If sharpening, use special round-section files at a constant angle. Sharpen when sawdust looks like dust, cutting is difficult, cut is not straight, or vibrations increase.
  • Guide Bar Maintenance: Turn the guide bar over periodically to distribute wear. Smooth any feathering or burring with a file. Replace if wear inside rails permits chain to lay sideways, or if bent.
  • Sprocket: Regularly check for wear (replace if wear exceeds 0.5 mm). Do not mount a new chain with a worn sprocket.
  • Nuts + Screws: Periodically check that all nuts and screws are tight and secure.
  • Motor Cooling: Keep cooling air vents clean and free of sawdust and debris to prevent overheating.
  • Cleaning: Use mild soap and a damp cloth. Do not let liquid enter the motor housing or immerse the saw housing in liquid.
  • Storage: Store indoors in a dry, high, or locked-up place, out of reach of children. Ensure the guide bar cover is in place. Do not store near chemicals (fertilizers, harsh solvents, brake fluids, gasoline, petroleum-based products, penetrating oils) as these can damage plastic parts. Empty the oil tank if storing for long periods (3 months or more) and lightly lubricate the chain.
  • Troubleshooting: A troubleshooting table is provided for common problems and solutions. For issues beyond minor adjustments, contact customer service.
  • Daily Checklist: Prior to each use, inspect for visible damage, clean oil port and guide bar rails, check chain tension and sharpness, and check bar and chain oil level.
  • Support: Contact Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® customer service for service or maintenance not covered in the manual.
  • Warranty: Snow Joe® + Sun Joe® offer a 2-year warranty for residential and personal household use, covering defects in material or workmanship, or normal wear and tear. Wearing parts like chains are not covered under this warranty but can be purchased.
