The document describes the Sun Joe Blower Joe 3-in-1 Electric Blower, Vacuum, and Leaf Shredder, Model No. SBJ604E. This versatile electric appliance is designed for residential use, offering multiple functions for garden maintenance.

Function Description:

The Sun Joe Blower Joe SBJ604E is a multi-functional tool primarily designed for blowing, collecting (vacuuming), and shredding dry leaves and other dry garden rubbish such as grass and twigs. It is intended for domestic use only and is not suitable for professional use or wet conditions. The device features a transfer lever switch that allows users to easily switch between blowing and vacuuming modes. When in vacuum mode, the collected material is shredded by rotating blades before being deposited into a collection bag.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: SBJ604E
  • Rated Voltage: 120V ~ 60Hz
  • Rated Power: 12 AMPS
  • Wind Speed: 200 MPH
  • Vacuum Capacity: 450 CFM
  • Mulch Ability: 10:1 (meaning it reduces 10 bags of leaves to 1 bag of mulch)
  • Bag Cubage: 14 GAL (gallons)
  • Weight: 12.1 lbs
  • Insulation: Double Insulation

Usage Features:

The device emphasizes user safety with numerous warnings and instructions. It features a polarized plug for electric shock reduction and double insulation for enhanced safety, requiring identical replacement parts for servicing.

  • Assembly: The blower/vacuum/leaf shredder requires correct assembly of the lower/suction tube and upper/suction tube. Users must ensure tubes are secure before operation. The collection bag also needs to be properly connected to the machine.
  • Powering ON/OFF: The tool is powered on by pushing an instant start button. To stop, the main switch button is pushed to the "O" position. A speed adjustable switch allows for varying speeds from "1" (low) to "6" (high). A warning notes that the motor continues to run for a few seconds after being switched off.
  • Blowing Mode: To operate in blowing mode, the transfer lever switch is turned to "BLOWING MODE." The manual recommends holding the tool at the light green-colored grip area(s) and using the supporting wheels for easy guiding along the ground. For optimal distance, it suggests keeping the tube 5-10 cm from the ground.
  • Vacuuming/Shredding Mode: For vacuuming and shredding, the transfer lever switch is turned to "VACUUM MODE." The collection bag must be connected. The device is designed to shred dry leaves and garden rubbish, with shredding intensity depending on the size and moisture of the material.
  • Cord Restraint: An integrated cord restraint helps secure the extension cord, preventing accidental disconnection during use.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Always unplug the appliance when not in use, before servicing, or before connecting/disconnecting the vacuum hose.
    • Do not use on wet surfaces or for picking up wet material, flammable/combustible liquids, or burning/smoking objects.
    • Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all body parts away from openings and moving parts.
    • Do not put any object into openings and keep them free of dust, lint, hair, and anything that may reduce airflow.
    • Do not operate without the dust bag and/or filters in place.
    • Avoid vacuuming solid objects like stones, broken glass, or metal pieces, as this can damage the impeller.
    • Do not vacuum large volumes of leaf material at once to prevent clogging.
    • In case of sudden stops, immediately switch off, disconnect, and remove any jammed material.
    • Keep bystanders at least 10m away.
    • Wear hearing protection, eye protection, and breathing protection.
    • Do not expose to rain; keep dry.
    • Caution for flying debris.
    • Rotating blades: Keep hands and feet away from openings while running.
    • Always turn off and disconnect electrical power before inspection, cleaning, or maintenance.

Maintenance Features:

The manual provides clear instructions for maintaining the device to ensure longevity and safe operation.

  • General Cleaning: The tool and cord should be kept clean. After each use, clean the tool with a soft brush or cloth, avoiding cleaning agents or solvents.
  • Collection Bag Maintenance: The collection bag should be removed, turned inside out, and cleaned thoroughly after each use. The manual also advises regularly emptying the collection bag as vacuum capacity decreases when full.
  • Air Outlet Area: After removing the collection bag, ensure any dirt residues are removed from the air outlet area.
  • Storage: Store the tool indoors in a dry place. Do not cover the tool with plastic, as this may cause moisture and corrosion.
  • Troubleshooting: A dedicated section helps users diagnose and resolve common issues such as no power, intermittent operation, or low blowing/vacuuming power. It provides remedies like checking power supply, replacing cords, cleaning blockages, and contacting service.
  • Service and Support: For service or maintenance, customers are directed to call 1-866-766-9563. When contacting the company or reordering parts, users need to provide the model and serial numbers, which are found on the decal affixed to the housing or bottom of the device.
  • Warranty: The product comes with a two-year full warranty for residential use in the United States and Canada, covering defects in material or workmanship. Limitations and exclusions apply, such as for commercial use (90 days), batteries (prorated), and damage from misuse or non-genuine parts. Belts, augers, and tines are considered wear parts and are not covered under warranty.
