Do you have a question about the Soler & Palau CAD-COMPACT Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The CAD COMPACT ECOWATT is a ventilation unit designed for efficient air handling and heat recovery. It is manufactured in full compliance with applicable safety regulations and EU standards. The appliance is designed for installation in various settings, including hanging from the ceiling or located behind a false ceiling, and can also be installed outdoors under a rain canopy.

Function Description:

The CAD COMPACT ECOWATT units are multi-zone ventilation systems that incorporate heat recovery. They are designed to supply fresh air and extract stale air, recovering heat from the exhaust air to pre-condition the incoming fresh air. The units feature EC motors for efficient operation and offer various control options, including VAV (variable airflow) and COP (constant pressure) modes. The system includes filters for air purification, a heat exchanger for energy recovery, and fans for air movement. Condensate drainage is integrated to manage moisture generated during the heat recovery process.

Important Technical Specifications:

The CAD COMPACT ECOWATT series includes several models, each with specific technical characteristics:

Model Diameter connections air (mm) Nominal airflow 150Pa** (m³/h) Efficiency heat recovery unit* (%) Electrical power supply Maximum absorbed power** (kW) Maximum current** (A) Weight (kg)
CAD COMPACT 500 200 470 82.2 1/230V, 50-60Hz 0.91 2.1 70
CAD COMPACT 900 250 790 82.0 1/230V, 50-60Hz 0.95 3.0 91

The units are equipped with EC motors, which allow for variable speed regulation. The electrical connection involves wiring the supply and extract fans, and for three-phase models (CAD COMPACT 4500), a three-phase motor is used. Control wiring depends on the specific needs of the installation and can include connections for temperature probes, pressure switches, and servomotors for bypass actuation.

Usage Features:

The CAD COMPACT ECOWATT units are designed for ease of installation and operation.

  • Installation: Units can be installed hanging from the ceiling using studded rods (Ø 8 mm) or placed behind a false ceiling. For outdoor installations, a rain canopy is required. Adequate space for maintenance (filters, electrical cabinet, fan access) must be ensured around the unit.
  • Connections: The units feature connections for supply air, extract air, outdoor air intake, and exhaust indoor air. Condensate drainage is managed by two drains (one for each circuit) leading to a common trap. The drain pipes should have a minimum slope of 2% to prevent water accumulation.
  • Control: The units offer flexible control options:
    • VAV Control (Variable Airflow): Manual adjustment via an external potentiometer (REB-ECOWATT accessory) or automatic adjustment based on CO2 sensor or similar. This allows the airflow to be varied between 0-10V signals, with 0V corresponding to minimum fan speed and 10V to maximum fan speed.
    • CAV Control (Constant Airflow): Maintains a constant air volume in the duct system, regardless of filter clogging state. This requires a pressure transmitter (TDP-D accessory) and a CONTROL AERO-REG regulator.
    • COP Control (Constant Pressure): Maintains a constant pressure in the ventilation system. This also requires a pressure transmitter (TDP-D accessory) and a CONTROL AERO-REG regulator.
  • Defrost Strategy: In cold climates, the units employ a defrost strategy that uses the bypass to reverse the direction of the bypass so that it remains at the supply of the unit. This modification involves replacing labels and electrical connections.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of the CAD COMPACT ECOWATT units.

  • Filters Replacement: Filters should be checked regularly and replaced when dirty. The units are designed for easy access to filters from the side. The frequency of replacement depends on the operating conditions and air quality. The manual provides a sequence for filter replacement, which involves opening the electrical cabinet, removing screws, and sliding out the filters.
  • Heat Exchanger Cleaning: The heat exchanger can be disassembled from the lateral panel for cleaning. This involves loosening screws, removing the side panel, extracting the bypass assembly, and then pulling out the heat exchanger.
  • Fan Maintenance: Access to the fans for maintenance is provided. The process involves removing the access panel, loosening screws, and pulling out the plate and fan.
  • Condensation Drainpipe Inspection: The drainpipe should be inspected regularly to ensure it is not blocked. The siphon should always be full of water.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a table of common anomalies, their causes, and suggested solutions. This covers issues such as insufficient power supply, airflow, pressure, temperature, and condensation. For complex issues, contacting the S&P Post-Sales service or Customer Advice service is recommended.

Safety Regulations and CE Marking:

S&P technicians are committed to research and development of ever more efficient products and in compliance with current safety regulations. The instructions and recommendations given reflect current regulations, principally regarding safety, and therefore are based on compliance with general regulations. The CE mark and the corresponding declaration of conformity are proof of the product’s conformity with current EU regulations. The appliance must be unpacked carefully, and any factory defects should be checked immediately. The unit must be handled with care, adapting the lifting conditions to the load and the center of gravity.

General Instructions:

A hazard analysis of the product has been carried out as provided in the Machine Directive. This manual contains information for all personnel exposed to these hazards, with the aim of preventing possible harm or damage due to faulty handling or maintenance. All maintenance operations (ordinary and extraordinary) must be carried out with the machine switched off and the electrical power supply disconnected. A warning notice on the electrical control panel with the following text: "Attention: control disconnected for maintenance operations" must be applied. Before connecting the power supply cable to the terminal strip, make sure the mains voltage corresponds to the voltage indicated on the specifications plate of the unit. Regularly check the product labels. If, due to the passing of time, they are no longer legible, they must be replaced.

Unit Labelling:

The machine may come with several pictograms that must not be removed. These signs are divided into:

  • Prohibition signs: Do not repair or adjust when in operation.
  • Danger signs: Warning of the presence of live elements inside the container bearing the sign.
  • Identification signs: CE mark, indicating product information and manufacturer’s address. The CE mark indicates the product’s conformity with EEC standards.
