Why does my Southland SELS60 Log Splitter fail to split logs?
    • J
      Jason SummersJul 28, 2025
If your Southland Log Splitter fails to split logs, there could be several reasons. First, ensure the log is positioned correctly. Second, the log might be too large or hard for the machine; try reducing the log size. If the wedge cutting edge is blunt, you should sharpen it. If you notice oil leaks, locate them and contact your dealer. Finally, if an unauthorized adjustment was made to the maximum pressure limiting screw, resulting in a lower pressure setting, contact your dealer.

What to do if my Southland Log Splitter has oil leaks?
    • D
      darren69Aug 4, 2025
If you notice oil leaks around the cylinder ram or from other points in your Southland Log Splitter, it might be due to several reasons. First, air may be sealed in the hydraulic system during operation; loosen the vent screw by 3 to 4 rotations before operating the log splitter. Second, the vent screw may not be tightened before moving the log splitter; tighten it before moving the machine. Third, the oil drain bolt with dipstick might not be tight; ensure it is tightened. Finally, the hydraulic control valve assembly and/or seals may be worn; in this case, contact your dealer.

If the ram on your Southland Log Splitter moves unsteadily, makes unfamiliar noises, or vibrates excessively, it could be due to a lack of hydraulic oil or excessive air in the hydraulic system. Check the oil level and refill if necessary. For other possible causes, contact your dealer.
