RADIO/MAGAZINE RETAINER ASSEMBLY
The Thing 2 gives the operator the ability to expand their load carriage capacity while using placards and chest rigs that
are already available on the commercial market. It allows for the use of 2 x 3 column MOLLE pouches as well as 2
dedicated slots for radios or additional magazines. The Thing 2 can also accommodate sub load pouches such as the SACK
pouch, or Lunchbox pouch.

Overview

The SPIRITUS SYSTEMS THE THING 2 is a versatile modular load carriage system designed to expand the operator's ability to carry equipment. It is available in commercial markets and offers various configurations to suit different operational needs.

Function Description

The Thing 2 serves as a base platform for attaching a variety of pouches and accessories, allowing operators to customize their loadout. Its primary function is to provide a flexible and adaptable solution for carrying radios, magazines, and other essential gear. The system is designed to integrate seamlessly with placards or micro fight chassis, as well as subload pouches, offering a comprehensive approach to load management.

Important Technical Specifications

The Thing 2 is built to support any molle pouch that has a weave width of three columns. This specification ensures compatibility with a wide range of existing MOLLE-compatible gear. The system allows for the use of 2 x 3 column MOLLE pouches, which are commonly used for radios and additional magazines. The Thing 2 can also accommodate subload pouches such as the SACK pouch or Lunchbox pouch, further expanding its carrying capacity.

Usage Features

The Thing 2 offers several usage features that enhance its adaptability and ease of use:

Radio/Magazine Retainer Assembly: The assembly process for the radio/magazine retainer involves several steps to ensure secure attachment.

  1. Step 1: The package includes 2 pieces of Shock Cord, 2 x Pull Tabs, and two Cord Locks.
  2. Step 2: Begin assembly by running the shock cord through the tab as shown.
  3. Step 3: Once the shock cord has been run through the tab in Step 2, pull the running ends through one of the pull tabs.
  4. Step 4: Once you have completed Step Three, take the two running ends of the shock cord and run them in between the soft pouch material and the black plastic insert as shown. Finally, feed the running ends through the provided cord lock.
  5. Step 5: Secure the running ends of the shock cord with an overhand knot.

Alternative Method for Retainer Assembly: There are three alternative methods for assembling the retainer:

  • Alt Method-Step 1: Run each running end through each eyelet as shown.
  • Alt Method-Step 2: Feed both running ends into the provided cord lock.
  • Alt Method-Step 3: Finally, secure the running ends of the shock cord with an overhand knot.

Attaching a MOLLE Pouch: The Thing 2 is built to support any MOLLE pouch that has a weave width of three columns.

  1. Step 1: Start by placing your pouches' MOLLE tabs over the highest point on the panel. Then, begin weaving the tabs through the MOLLE webbing on the pouch.
  2. Step 2: Continue to weave the tabs through the panel and the MOLLE webbing on the pouch until the pouch is completely secured. DO NOT skip MOLLE sections.

Attaching a Placard or Micro Fight Chassis: The Thing Two was built to expand the capability of Placards that already exist on the market. It uses a combination of webbing passthroughs and Velcro to secure items to it.

  1. Step 1: Weave the buckles on the Placard or Micro Fight Chassis through the retaining loops on The Thing 2 as shown in the figure above.
  2. Step 2: Once both buckles have been fed through the retaining loops, securely mate the Velcro on the Placard or Micro Fight Chassis to the Velcro Loop Field on The Thing Two.

Attaching a Subload Pouch:

  1. Step 1: Begin by separating the loop/hook Velcro field inside the pocket on the rear of The Thing 2.
  2. Step 2: Insert the Velcro tongue on your subload pouch into the pocket.

Maintenance Features

  • DO NOT machine wash or dry clean the product. Using harsh detergents, bleach, or solvents may damage the product's construction and compromise the product.
