The SportCount Pace Trainer (Model PT #90060 Sky Blue) is a specialized device designed to optimize workouts for competitive athletes by facilitating Race Pace Training. This innovative training technique emphasizes performing sport training sessions at competition speeds, aiming to reinforce muscle memory around good technique habits essential for winning races. Unlike traditional long workouts at slow speeds, which can foster bad technique, the Pace Trainer helps athletes maintain high-performance habits.
The core function of the Pace Trainer is to accurately time and count "Pace Laps" and manage "Rest Periods" during Race Pace Training workouts. Athletes design their workouts by dividing their event distance into shorter segments, with brief rest periods between each segment. The device allows users to precisely record the time for each Pace Lap and track the duration of rest periods.
For example, a swimmer aiming for a 100-meter freestyle race under 1 minute might structure their workout around 25-meter sprints at 15 seconds each. After a short warm-up, the swimmer would begin a 25-meter Pace Lap at the target 15-second pace, followed by a short rest period. The rest period is intended to be just long enough to recover and prepare for the next high-speed lap. This cycle of Pace Lap and rest time is repeated as long as the athlete can maintain their target pace. When the desired pace can no longer be sustained, the workout is either paused for a longer rest or ended to prevent falling into slow speed/bad habit patterns.
The Pace Trainer is operated with a single button, making it convenient for one-handed use without interfering with the natural flow of exercise. It is typically worn on the index finger, with the button positioned for comfortable thumb access.
Power-Up: To start the Pace Trainer, press the button. The display will show all "0's," indicating it's ready for use. A battery indicator in the top right corner shows the battery status. A filled image signifies a normal battery level, while an outline indicates the battery is low and needs replacement.
Timing and Counting Pace Laps:
Timing Rest Periods:
Summary Mode:
Timing Over 1 Hour: If elapsed time exceeds 1 hour, the display shifts to show hours, minutes, and seconds. A black bar appears over the two rightmost digits to indicate they now represent seconds. The Pace Trainer can time up to 23 hours, 59 minutes, and 59 seconds. After this, the display resets to 00'00.00 and restarts. If no button is pressed for 24 hours during timing, the device enters sleep mode (blank display) to save battery life, and Pace data is saved as if a reset occurred at the 24-hour mark.
Reset/Turn Off: From Summary Mode, press and hold the button for 3 seconds to RESET the Pace Trainer, returning the display to zeros. This action erases all stored lap times. If left in reset or summary mode for 10 minutes, the display automatically shuts down to conserve battery life.
Water-Resistance: All SportCount models are designed to withstand water pressure associated with normal swimming. After swimming, it is recommended to wash the device with fresh water and clean it with a dry cloth before storage.
Temperature: Avoid exposing the SportCount to direct sunlight or very high temperatures for extended periods, as this can darken the display. Similarly, very low temperatures may cause slight time inaccuracies. These issues correct themselves once the device returns to normal temperature.
Shocks: Handle the device carefully to avoid dropping it or hitting it against hard surfaces, which can cause mechanical damage.
Static Electricity: The integrated circuit can be affected by static electricity. Avoid touching electronic devices and be cautious of synthetic clothing in dry weather that may generate strong static shocks.
Chemicals: Do not expose the SportCount to solvents such as gasoline, alcohol, cosmetics, cleaners, paints, or similar substances, as they can damage the device.
Battery Change: The battery is expected to last at least one year. When the battery indicator lights up, or the display becomes dim or blank, battery replacement is necessary. It is recommended to have a qualified technician or SportCount Inc. replace the battery with a Lithium battery CR2016 or equivalent.
Warranty: The SportCount comes with a limited one-year warranty covering defects in material and workmanship from the purchase date. This warranty does not cover the battery, crystal, or band, nor damage resulting from consumer misuse rather than manufacturing defects.
Service or Repair: For service or repair needs, securely pack the device and send it to the SportCount Service Center. Customer service can be contacted via phone or email for questions and additional information.
