Overview

The provided manual describes the CSF+ Whole House Filter/Salt Free Softener, a comprehensive water treatment system designed for residential use. This system combines a whole-house filter with a salt-free softener to provide clean, conditioned water throughout the home.

Function Description

The CSF+ system operates in a multi-stage process to treat incoming water. Water from the source first enters a Pre-Filter which removes larger sediment and particulate matter, protecting the subsequent stages of the system. After pre-filtration, the water flows through two main tanks: the Carbon Filter Tank (CF+) and the Conditioner Tank (FS+).

The Carbon Filter Tank (CF+) is the second stage, where water passes through a carbon media. This stage is primarily responsible for removing chlorine and other chemicals, improving the taste and odor of the water. The carbon media also helps to reduce other contaminants that might be present in the water supply.

The final stage is the Conditioner Tank (FS+), which functions as a salt-free softener. Unlike traditional salt-based softeners that remove hardness minerals through ion exchange, this system uses a salt-free conditioning process. This process neutralizes the hardness minerals (like calcium and magnesium) without removing them from the water, preventing them from forming scale on pipes and appliances. This approach means no salt is added to the water and no wastewater is generated from regeneration cycles, making it an environmentally friendly option.

The system is designed to be installed on the main water supply line of a house, ensuring that all water used for drinking, bathing, and other household purposes is treated. A bypass valve assembly is incorporated into the system, allowing for easy isolation of the filter and softener tanks for maintenance or in case of an emergency, without interrupting the household's water supply.

Important Technical Specifications

The CSF+ system consists of two main tanks, the CF+ (Carbon Filter) and FS+ (Conditioner), along with a pre-filter housing.

Carbon Filter Tank (CF+) Specifications:

  • Tank Width: 13 inches
  • Tank Height: 54 inches (58 inches with head)
  • Flow Rate: 20 GPM Service
  • Connection Size: 1.5 inches
  • Operating Pressure: 25-80 PSI
  • Operating Temperatures: 36-120 °F
  • Pre-Filter Change/Replacement: Every 6-9 months
  • Media Change/Replacement: Every 10 years or 1 Million Gallons

Conditioner Tank (FS+) Specifications:

  • Tank Width: 13 inches
  • Tank Height: 54 inches (58 inches with head)
  • Flow Rate: 20 GPM Service
  • Connection Size: 1.5 inches
  • Operating Pressure: 20-80 PSI
  • Operating Temperatures: 34-120 °F
  • Flow Direction: Up flow
  • Hardness GPG Max: 81
  • Ph Range: 7.0-9.5

The system requires a minimum water pressure of 25 PSI for optimal operation. It is crucial to note that the system must be installed on a main water supply line. For well water applications, it is recommended to contact customer service for specific guidance, as additional pre-treatment may be required.

Usage Features

The CSF+ system is designed for whole-house water treatment, providing conditioned and filtered water to all faucets and appliances.

  • Salt-Free Softening: Eliminates the need for salt, reducing maintenance and environmental impact. It prevents scale buildup without adding sodium to the water.
  • Chlorine and Chemical Reduction: The carbon filter effectively removes chlorine, chloramines, and other chemicals, improving water taste and odor.
  • Sediment Removal: The pre-filter protects the main tanks from larger sediment, extending the life of the system.
  • High Flow Rate: With a 20 GPM service flow rate, the system is capable of meeting the demands of most households without significant pressure drops.
  • Bypass Valve: The integrated bypass valve allows users to easily isolate the system for maintenance or in emergencies, ensuring continuous water supply to the home.
  • Durable Construction: The tanks are designed for long-term use, with a media lifespan of up to 10 years or 1 million gallons for the carbon filter.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the CSF+ system.

  • Pre-Filter Replacement: The pre-filter cartridge needs to be replaced every 6-9 months. The manual provides detailed instructions for unscrewing the lid, inserting a new sediment filter, lubricating the O-ring, and tightening the lid.
  • Carbon Media Replacement: The carbon media in the CF+ tank has a lifespan of approximately 10 years or 1 million gallons, whichever comes first.
  • Carbon Soak Instructions: Before initial installation, the carbon media inside the filter system MUST soak in water for a minimum of 48 hours. This is a critical step to prepare the media for operation. The process involves connecting hose bib assemblies to the inlet and outlet of the carbon filter tank, filling the tank with water, and allowing it to soak.
  • Carbon Flush Instructions: After the 48-hour soak, the carbon media needs to be flushed. This involves connecting the hose bib assembly to the inlet and outlet ports of the tank and running water through it in both directions until it runs clear. This process ensures that any loose carbon fines are removed before the system is put into service.
  • Tank Leveling: The manual emphasizes the importance of ensuring the tanks stand vertically and fit snugly into the tank boot. If a tank is not perfectly straight, it should be carefully lifted and tapped on the ground until it stands correctly.
  • System Testing: After installation, the system must be tested by turning on the bypass valve and flushing water through a cold water faucet in a bathtub for at least 5 minutes. This allows for checking for leaks and ensuring proper operation.
  • Spanner Wrench Storage: A slot is provided in the mounting bracket to store the spanner wrench, which is used for tightening the pre-filter housing.

The manual provides comprehensive, step-by-step instructions with accompanying images for installation, including assembling the bypass valve, prepping and installing the pre-filter, and installing the main tanks. It also highlights important safety warnings, such as ensuring all applicable plumbing codes are followed and that the system is installed on a main water supply line. For well water users, it strongly advises contacting customer service for specific guidance.
