(Original instructions)
To insert an auger bit (6) or other accessory, follow these
steps.
u Turn tool off and remove battery pack.
u Unlock the and remove the lock and snap pin (7) from the
auger bit (6).
u With one hand secure the tool. With the other hand grasp
the auger bit (6) and install the auger bit sleeve (8) onto
the drive shaft (8a) as shown in Fig. G.
u Rotate the auger bit to align the holes (7a ) on the auger
bit sleeve (8) and drive shaft (8a).
u Insert the lock and snap pin (7) through the auger bit
sleeve (8) and drive shaft (8a) holes (7a).
u Lock the lock and snap pin (7) in position with the pin
snap.
u To remove the auger bit, repeat steps 1 and 2 above.
Secure the tool with one hand.
With the other hand grasp the auger bit (6) and pull the
auger bit from the drive shaft (8a).

Warning! Let the tool work at its own pace. Do not overload.
Proper hand position (g. H)

ALWAYS use proper hand position as shown.
Warning!Toreducetheriskofseriouspersonalinjury,
ALWAYS hold securely in anticipation of a sudden reaction.
Proper hand position requires one hand on the main handle
(3), with the other hand on the side handle (4) to control the
twisting action of the tool.
Trigger switch/reversing button (Fig. I)
u The tool is switched ON and OFF by squeezing and
releasing the trigger switch (1).
u Aforward/reversecontrolbutton(2)determinesthe
direction of the auger bit (6) and also serves as a lock off
button.
u To select forward rotation, release the trigger switch and
depresstheforward/reversecontrolbuttontotheleft.
u Toselectreverse,depresstheforward/reversecontrol
button the opposite direction.
Note: The center position of the control button locks the tool
in the off position. When changing the position of the control
button, be sure the trigger is released.
Auger bit operation
Warning! Before using the tool, check that the side handle is
tightened securely.
Warning! The side handle should always be used to maintain
control of the tool at all times.
Warning! Always ensure the auger bit is secure before
startingthetool.Alooseaugerbitmayejectfromtoolcausing
possiblepersonalinjury.
Warning! Keep the auger bit away from your body.An ac-
cidentalstart-upcancauseinjury.
u Select the desired direction, forward or reverse, to match
the planned operation.
u Beforestartingthetool,ensureyouhavearmgripon
the main handle and side handle and the auger bit (6) is
pointed at a 90° angle above the working surface.
u Switch the tool ON and allow the auger bit (6) to reach full
speed and then slowly lower it into the soil.
u Always apply pressure in a straight line with the auger bit
(6). Use enough pressure to keep the auger biting, but
donotpushhardenoughtostallthemotorordeectthe
auger bit.
u Holdtoolrmlywithbothhandstocontrolthetwisting
action of the auger bit.
u IF TOOL STALLS , it is usually because it is being
overloaded. RELEASE TRIGG ER SWITCH
IMMEDIATELY, remove auger bit from the soil, and
determine cause of stalling. DO NOT CLI CK TRIGG ER
OFF AND ON IN AN ATTEMPT TO START A STALL ED
TOOL – THIS CAN DAMAGE THE TOOL.
u Keep the motor running when pulling the auger bit back
outofahole.Thiswillhelppreventjamming.
u Relase the trigger switch (1) to turn the tool OFF before
starting a new hole.
Maintenance
Your STANLEY FATMAX tool has been designed to operate
over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.
Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper tool
care and regular cleaning.
Your charger does not require any maintenance apart from
regular cleaning.
Warning! Before performing any maintenance on the tool,
remove the battery from the tool. Unplug the charger before
cleaning it.
u Regularly clean the ventilation slots in your tool and
charger using a soft brush or dry cloth.
u Regularly clean the motor housing using a damp cloth.
Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner.
u Regularly open the chuck and tap it to remove any dust
from the interior.
