The Starfrit Meat Grinder (Item no. 024708) is an electric appliance designed for grinding meat. It operates on 120V, with a wattage of 250W, and a frequency of 60Hz.
Function Description:
The primary function of this appliance is to grind meat. It comes with two grinding plates: a medium grinding plate (5 mm or 0.19 inches) suitable for meatloaf, hamburgers, breakfast sausages, and ground meat in soups, and a coarse grinding plate (7 mm or 0.27 inches) ideal for chili and stew meat. Beyond grinding, the appliance also includes attachments for making sausages and kebbe, expanding its versatility in food preparation.
Important Safeguards and Usage Warnings:
- Electrical Safety: Do NOT immerse the power cord, plug, or meat grinder in water or other liquids. Always unplug the appliance when not in use, before assembling/disassembling parts, cleaning, or moving it. Pull directly on the plug to disconnect, not the power cord. The appliance is equipped with a polarized plug; do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
- Food Grinding Restrictions: Only use the appliance to grind meat. DO NOT attempt to grind bones, vegetables, nuts, or other hard food, as this can damage the blade or cause malfunction.
- User Safety: NEVER feed food by hand; always use the meat pusher. NEVER insert fingers or other tools into the grinding plate area or near the meat grinder head while the appliance is in operation. The cutting blade is sharp and must be handled with care during use and cleaning.
- Appliance Operation: Do not operate the meat grinder without the meat tray secured into place. Do not run the appliance empty after assembling the blade and grinding plate, as this will cause premature wear. Always use the meat grinder on a firm and stable surface.
- Overheating Prevention: To prevent overheating, do not operate the meat grinder for more than 7 minutes at a time. Allow it to cool down for a minimum of 10 minutes between two consecutive cycles.
- Reverse Function: The reverse function is for clearing jammed meat and should be used only for brief periods (no more than 5 seconds). Allow the motor to come to a complete stop (at least 1 minute) before engaging reverse. If jamming persists, disassemble and clean the internal parts.
- Meat Preparation: For best results, chill meat to between 32-34°F (0-1°C) before grinding. Do not allow meat to sit at room temperature longer than necessary. Ensure meat is boneless and trimmed of tendons and cords. Recommended boneless meat size is approximately 2 cm x 2 cm x 6 cm (3/4 inches x 3/4 inches x 2 1/3 inches). Do not grind frozen meat.
Usage Features:
- Assembly: The meat grinder head aligns with notches on the motorized body and locks into place by rotating counterclockwise. The feed screw pin, cutting blade (blades facing outwards), and grinding plate are then assembled, followed by the blade cover. The meat tray is inserted on top.
- Control Switch: The appliance features a control switch with On (|), Off (O), and Reverse (R) positions. The meat grinder must always be in the On (|) position before introducing meat.
- Grinding Plates: Two interchangeable grinding plates allow for different meat textures.
- Sausage Attachment: For making sausages, the cutting blade and grinding plate are removed, and the sausage attachment is placed over the feed screw pin. Coarsely ground and seasoned meat is used. The casing is slid over the attachment, filled slowly to avoid air pockets, and twisted into links.
- Kebbe Attachment: This attachment consists of a ring-shaped piece and an extruder tube. It is used after removing the cutting blade and grinding plate. The kebbe attachment shapes a long, hollow cylinder of meat dough for stuffing. Meat for kebbe should be ground three times before using this attachment.
Maintenance Features:
- Cleaning: Always unplug the product and allow it to cool completely before cleaning. All removable parts (hopper, grinder head, feed screw pin, grinding plates, cutting blade, attachments) should be hand-washed in hot soapy water and dried thoroughly. These parts are NOT dishwasher safe. The grinder motor body should be wiped with a damp cloth and dried thoroughly; it must NOT be submerged in water or other liquids.
- Cleaning Tips: Clean the meat grinder immediately after use to prevent crust buildup. Inserting a slice of bread into the feeding tube can help absorb grease and residues. For greasy metal parts, soaking them in warm water with a teaspoon of baking soda can help.
- Storage: After washing and drying, the cutting blade and grinding plates should be coated with cooking oil to prevent corrosion (rust) and stored in a plastic bag.
Recipes:
The manual includes recipes for Honey Glazed Chicken Buns, Meatloaf with Quinoa and Vegetables, and Mushroom & Swiss Burger, all utilizing the meat grinder for preparing ground meat. These recipes provide practical applications for the different grinding plate options.
Warranty:
The product comes with a 1-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship from the date of purchase. The original receipt is required as proof of purchase. The warranty does not cover normal wear of parts, negligent use, misuse, commercial use, accidents, improper voltage/current, use contrary to instructions, disassembly, repair, or alteration by unauthorized agents.
