8. Cleaning the filter
The constant build-up of dirt increases resistance in the filter. If the pressure (see the pressure gauge) in the filter container increases by
approximately 0.2 – 0.3 bar above the original pressure reading, the filter needs to be backwashed.
8.1 Maintenance work
Intervals Work to be performed
Weekly Backwashing, regardless of how dirty the filter is; cleaning of the roughing filter in the
pre-filter*
Annually
(only when the filter is located out of doors)
Winterise the system before the onset of frost; replace the sand in the springtime
before placing the filter into operation again
* clean the pre-filter
1. Shut off the pump (pull the plug)
2. Close the shutoff valves
3. Open the threaded ring and lift out the transparent window. Remove the strainer basket clean it, and replace. Replace the
transparent window and tighten down the threaded ring.
4. Open the shutoff valves.
5. Switch the pump back on.
8.2 Malfunctions and troubleshooting
Malfunction Cause Solution
Pressure gauge has a reading of
more than 1 bar
Dirty filter bed
Backwash the filter
Pressure too low Strainer basket in the pump pre-filter dirty Clean the rough strainer
Air in the pump pre-filter Poor seal on the suction side Tighten hose clamps and PVC joints
Water flows into the drainpipe Dirt around the seal of the 6-way valve Unscrew the 6-way valve from the filter cover,
clean the seal
Leaking filter Seal defective Check the seal, replace if necessary
Pump does not run System is switched off by the timer/filter controls
Not plugged in to the socket
Fault-current circuit breaker activated
Pump motor defective
Check the settings
Switch on the breaker (if it is immediately tripped
again, there is a defect in either the pump or the
controls)
Replace the complete pump
Sand in pool If sand is new, there are still undersize grains present
Sand in the 6-way central valve (from backwash
process)
Separation wall to the purified water chamber is
improperly inserted
Filter bottom strainer is damaged
Backwash several times until the backwash water
is clear
Pump into the drainpipe for approx. 30 seconds on
the "purge" setting
Check the separation wall for proper seating
Replace filter bottom strainer
Repairs on or in the pump may only be performed by qualified, professional companies.
ATTENTION: The pump must not be operated without a strainer basket or strainer basket handle, as it may become clogged and
blocked.
NOTE: In order to ensure the hygiene and good operation of the filter, and to optimise the filter capacity, the filter should be
backwashed regardless of operating times and how dirty it is due to increased load (increased pressure) at least every 8
days. When subject to greater loads it should be backwashed more frequently.
ATTENTION: The valve lever may not be used for carrying the filter container, as it can break off.
