Overview

The Stoneridge SE5000 Exakt Duo² is a digital tachograph designed to record and store driving data for both drivers and co-drivers. This device offers a range of functions to ensure compliance with regulations, manage driving activities, and facilitate data download for analysis and record-keeping.

Function Description

The core function of the SE5000 Exakt Duo² is to automatically record driving activities, including driving time, rest periods, availability, and other work. It supports automatic activity changes based on ignition key status, which can be preset for both drivers and co-drivers according to national regulations. The device also manages local time adjustments for daylight saving, automatically prompting users to confirm or cancel the change.

A key security feature is the "Company lock-in" and "Company lock-out" mechanism. The lock-in prevents unauthorized access to tachograph data by associating the device with a specific company card. This ensures that data is recorded under the correct company. Conversely, the lock-out function is crucial when transferring the tachograph to a new company or owner, preventing the new user's data from being recorded under the previous company. It is strongly advised to download all data before performing a lock-out to secure historical records.

The device is equipped with a vehicle unit download capability, allowing for the extraction of recorded data. This process involves removing the printer cassette, attaching external download equipment via a 6-pin connector, and initiating the download while the ignition is ON. The tachograph provides clear messages indicating the status of the download, from "Downloading busy" to "Download complete" or "Download failed" if issues occur.

Usage Features

Operating the SE5000 Exakt Duo² involves a user-friendly interface with clear prompts and button controls.

Activity Management:

  • Default Activity Key On/Off: Users can access the "Settings" menu, then "Parameters," to enable or disable the default activity key. This allows for presetting the preferred activity (No change, Rest, Available, or Work) that automatically applies when the ignition key is turned on or off.
  • Confirming Settings: The device uses a confirm button to select and move through menu options, and a cancel button to return to previous displays or the standard display.

Card Handling:

  • Inserting a Card: To insert a driver or co-driver card, the user presses and holds the corresponding button until the card tray opens. The card is then inserted chip-side up, and the tray is gently pushed forward to close. This operation is only possible when the vehicle is not moving and the ignition is ON.
  • Withdrawing a Card: To withdraw a card, the user again presses and holds the driver or co-driver button until the tray opens. The card can then be slightly lifted from underneath or pushed down at the edge until it pops out. This function may not be available in all menus.

Time Management:

  • Daylight Saving Time: The device automatically prompts for local time adjustments on the last Sunday in March and October. Users can select "YES" to acknowledge the change or "NO" to cancel it.

Company Data Management:

  • Company Lock-in: To perform a lock-in, a company card is inserted into either tachograph tray. The device will ask if a Company Lock should be activated. Users confirm this through the "COMP LOCKS" menu option. A "Lock-in complete" message confirms the action.
  • Company Lock-out: Similar to lock-in, a company card is inserted, and the device automatically enters company mode. Users navigate to "COMP LOCKS" and confirm the lock-out. A "Lock-out complete" message indicates success.

Data Download:

  • Vehicle Unit Download: The process begins by removing the printer cassette. Download equipment is then connected to the 6-pin download connector. The download is initiated according to the instructions of the external equipment, ensuring the ignition is ON. The device displays messages such as "Downloading busy," "Download complete," or "Download failed" to indicate the status.

Maintenance Features

While the manual primarily focuses on operational aspects, certain features can be considered part of routine maintenance or data management:

  • Data Download for Compliance: Regular downloading of data from the vehicle unit is a critical maintenance task for compliance with regulations. This ensures that all recorded driving data is extracted and stored externally, preventing data loss and facilitating audits.
  • Printer Cassette Management: The need to remove the printer cassette before a vehicle unit download implies that the cassette is a user-serviceable component, likely requiring periodic replacement of paper rolls. Although not explicitly detailed as maintenance, this is a common aspect of tachograph upkeep.
  • Checking Connections: In case of a "Download failed" message, the manual advises checking connections and downloading equipment. This highlights the importance of ensuring proper physical connections for reliable data transfer, which is a basic troubleshooting and maintenance step.
  • Consulting Manuals: For full details on functionality and troubleshooting, users are referred to the Driver & Company Manual or the Stoneridge Electronics website. This emphasizes the importance of consulting comprehensive documentation for ongoing support and maintenance.

The SE5000 Exakt Duo² is designed for ease of use and regulatory compliance, providing robust features for managing driver activities, securing company data, and facilitating data download.
