Overview

The ES5000 Digital outside access device is a security lock designed for external use, intended to be integrated with existing exit device mechanisms. This manual provides detailed instructions for its installation, operation, and code changing procedures.

Function Description

The ES5000 device provides digital access control for doors, working in conjunction with an appropriate exit device. It features a keypad for code entry, allowing authorized users to gain access. The device is designed to be robust and secure, with internal components that require careful handling during maintenance to prevent damage. The code can be customized, offering flexibility in security management.

Installation and Setup

Installation of the ES5000 device requires careful attention to detail to ensure proper functionality. The process begins by establishing the correct position of the existing exit mechanism on the door face. Once the position is determined, the exit mechanism must be temporarily removed to facilitate the fitting of the digital outside access device.

The next step involves determining the correct "hand" of the door (left-hand or right-hand). An 8mm spindle, provided with the device, must then be inserted into the handle follower and cam as illustrated in the manual. The device comes with both LH and RH spindles, and it is crucial to ensure that the chosen spindle is cut down to the correct size. The cut end of the spindle must properly enter the handle follower for the mechanism to operate correctly.

After the spindle is in place, the digital outside access device is secured to a fixing plate. This is achieved by using one of the M4 screws provided, inserting it into the lower fixing post. During this step, it is important to verify that the cam is free to rotate without obstruction.

The fixing plate is then secured to the door using an appropriate screw for the door material. Following this, another M4 screw is used to secure the top fixing post through the designated section. Finally, the exit mechanism can be re-positioned onto the fixing plate and secured with its appropriate screws, as shown in the diagrams.

Technical Specifications

  • Spindle Size: 8mm, supplied in both LH and RH configurations.
  • Fixing Screws: M4 screws provided for securing the device to the fixing plate and the fixing plate to the door.
  • Dimensions:
    • Distance between hexagonal fixing posts: 21.5 mm (both top and bottom).
    • Overall length of the main body (approximate, based on diagram): 159 mm.
  • Code Combinations: Over 1000 different codes are possible.
  • Tumblers: Red tumblers are coded, blue tumblers are non-coded. The C tumbler is un-coloured and is not to be removed.
  • Spare Parts: 4 spare tumblers (2 red and 2 blue) are provided for code customization.

Usage Features

  • Customizable Code: The device allows users to change the access code. The code can be entered in any order or sequence (e.g., 1234 or 4321).
  • Free Function (Optional): The device may include a "free function" which can be easily removed if not required. This involves unscrewing four red screws on the back of the keypad, depressing the C button, and lifting out the F tumbler using tweezers.
  • Durability: The device is designed for external use, implying a degree of resistance to environmental factors.

Maintenance Features

Code Changing Procedure:

Changing the code on the ES5000 lock requires a precise sequence of steps to avoid damaging the internal components.

  1. Verify Original Code: Before attempting any changes, ensure that the current code is working correctly.
  2. Remove Keypad Screws: Turn the keypad over and remove the red screws that secure the covering panel.
  3. Lift Covering Panel: Carefully lift off the covering panel. It is important to note that there are 12 springs attached to this panel, so caution is advised. Observe that the red tumblers will rotate to align with the code printed on the provided card. The C tumbler is un-coloured and must NOT be removed.
  4. Reposition Tumblers:
    • Hold the keypad face down.
    • Depress and hold the C tumbler down. This step is critical; failure to do so may damage internal components.
    • Using the provided tweezers, reposition the tumblers to set the new code.
    • Ensure that the space cut out on each tumbler faces the outside of the lock body.
    • Verify that the coloured mark on each tumbler faces upwards. Incorrect orientation (upside down or wrong way round) will prevent the lock from working and could lead to internal component breakage if forced.
    • The code must always start with 'C'.
    • Red tumblers are coded, while blue tumblers are non-coded.
  5. Replace Covering Panel: Carefully replace the covering panel and hand-tighten the four red screws.
  6. Test New Code: After changing the code, check to ensure it is working correctly. It is highly recommended to make a note of the new code for future reference. Once satisfied that the lock functions normally, it is ready to be fitted or refitted.

Spare Tumblers:

The device is supplied with four spare tumblers (two red and two blue). These can be used to shorten or lengthen the access code as needed.

Troubleshooting:

If the lock does not work after a code change, it is likely due to incorrect tumbler positioning. Re-check that the cut-out space on each tumbler faces the outside of the lock body and that the coloured mark faces upwards. Forcing the mechanism can cause irreversible damage.

The ES5000 Digital outside access device offers a reliable and customizable security solution for external doors, provided that installation and maintenance procedures are followed meticulously.
