Why does my STRATOS FU-230 Lathe vibrate?
- JJennifer TaylorJul 29, 2025
If your STRATOS Lathe vibrates, several factors could be at play. It might be due to an unbalanced work piece – try compensating for this or reducing the speed. Ensure the work piece is securely clamped; improving the clamping length or diameter, supporting the tailstock end, or using a steady rest can help. A blunt cutting edge on the tool could also cause vibration, so sharpen or replace it. High cutting pressure can also be a culprit; reduce the depth of cut or feed. Check that the work piece is clamped centrically and that the speed isn't too high. Tighten any loose pulleys. If the machine is on an uneven floor, use an adjustable leveler to compensate. Finally, ensure the tool rest, tailstock, and headstock are securely locked, tightening the self-locking nut underneath if necessary.
