MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP
Belt drive
Your ST2 is equipped with a belt drive (Gates car-
bon belt drive). The automatic tensioning roller
saves you from having to check and retensify the
belt, making it almost maintenance free.
Please refer to the following handling inst-
ructions to extend the belt’s lifespan. Improper
handling can cause damage to the belt which may
mean it needs replacing!
Do not bend or twist it.
Do not turn it inside out.
Do not bunch or coil it.
Do not use as a belt whip
Do not use tools or sharp instruments when
handling the belt.
Do not push down onto the belt pulley.
Do not oil.
In order to extend its lifespan, we recommend
cleaning the belt with water or a hand brush after
riding through mud or dirt. Residue on the belt
or belt pulleys can result in increased wear and
noise such as squeaking or creaking.
Use in winter: The belt does not rust, but salt crys-
tals may be left behind on the pulley system if salt
water is allowed to dry on it. Even if no dirt is visi-
ble, you should wash your bike and belt regularly
when using it during winter. Use warm water and
a gentle detergent or cleaning product.
Check your belt drive for damage, deformation
or cracks each time you clean it. If you have any
doubts, visit your Stromer dealer. If you still noti-
ce any noise despite a thorough cleaning, a thin
layer of dry silicone spray can be applied to the
inside of the belt. This protects it against further
build-up, reduces friction on the belt and reduces
noise.
Gear change
The gearshift is operated with a grip shifter.
The grip shifters to change gears are part of the
handlebar grip. To change gear, turn the movable
part of the grip forwards or backwards. You can
switch gears while pedalling or when still.
There may be a slight initial resistance when
changing gear with a load on the pedals. This will
decrease significantly over time as you ride your
Stromer.
