Do you have a question about the Stryker T-Tops SG300 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Stryker SG300 T-Top is a marine accessory designed to provide shade and a mounting platform for various equipment on a boat. It consists of an aluminum frame and a Sunbrella® canopy, along with the necessary mounting hardware for installation.

Function Description

The primary function of the Stryker SG300 T-Top is to offer protection from the sun and elements for occupants of a center console boat. The integrated frame also serves as a robust structure for mounting fishing rod holders, navigation lights, antennas, speakers, and other marine electronics, enhancing the boat's utility and comfort. The design aims for a balance of strength, aesthetics, and ease of installation.

Important Technical Specifications

The SG300 T-Top frame is constructed from aluminum, a material chosen for its corrosion resistance in marine environments and its lightweight properties. The canopy is made from Sunbrella® fabric, known for its durability, UV resistance, and ability to withstand harsh weather conditions without fading or deteriorating.

The kit includes:

  • SG300 T-Top Frame (various components for assembly)
  • Sunbrella® Canopy
  • Mounting Hardware

The parts list details the frame components:

  • Top frame sections (1x each)
  • Port side sections (1x each)
  • Starboard side sections (1x each)
  • Mounting screws: 16x (1/2 inch), 12x (1/4 inch, located in the clamps), 8x (1/4 inch)
  • Canvas (1x)
  • Canopy rope (1x)
  • Zip ties (12x, recommended but not included)

The installation process involves several steps, including marking mounting locations, assembling side sections, attaching the canopy, and securing the T-Top to the boat's deck. Specific drill bit sizes are mentioned for mounting: a pilot hole with a small drill bit, followed by a larger hole (3/8") for the mounting hardware. Countersinking the gelcoat is recommended to prevent stress cracking. Marine grade sealant (e.g., 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive or equivalent) is specified for sealing the mounting points.

Usage Features

The SG300 T-Top is designed for center console boats. Its structure allows for the attachment of various accessories, enhancing the boating experience. The installation guide emphasizes careful planning and measurement to ensure proper fit and to avoid interference with existing boat features, particularly fuel/water tanks and wiring.

For boats with a hinged center console door, the manual advises careful measurement of the door's size and clearance. Depending on the T-Top model, the lower leg sections might have a horizontal brace that could obstruct the door's opening. For the SG300, this brace is welded on. The manual suggests solutions like replacing door hinges with pins to allow the door to be pulled out, or contacting Stryker T-Tops for assistance in finding the best solution based on specific door measurements.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and maintenance are crucial for extending the life and maintaining the value of Stryker T-Top products. The manual recommends frequent light cleaning to prevent the build-up of grime and deposits that would require stronger cleaning methods.

General Cleaning Tips:

  • Avoid over-cleaning or excessive rubbing.
  • Use clean, grit-free sponges, microfiber cloths, and pads.
  • Use only clean water; regularly dump and refill buckets to remove abrasive dirt.
  • Avoid abrasive or household cleaners that can damage painted surfaces.
  • Do not use abrasive materials like steel wool, scouring pads, or hard bristle brushes.
  • When using recommended solutions, avoid drips and splashes, and remove run-downs quickly.
  • Avoid temperature extremes; ideally, clean in the shade at a moderate temperature.
  • Do not substitute heavy-duty cleaners for frequently used mild cleaners.
  • Do not scour painted surfaces.
  • Never use paint removers, aggressive alkaline, acid, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Always test on a small hidden area before treating the entire surface.
  • Follow manufacturer's instructions for applying, mixing, and diluting.
  • Never mix cleaners.

Anodized Aluminum Care:

Anodizing creates a hard finish, and mild abrasives or an abrasive cleaning sponge may sometimes be recommended for difficult grime. However, extreme caution is advised with medium to heavy cleaning. Users should start with a small hidden spot, ensure the surface is cool and out of direct sunlight, and always follow product instructions. Woody Wax Kit and Flitz Liquid Polish are mentioned as products that customers have had success with.

  • DO NOT use harsh acidic or alkaline cleaners as they can permanently destroy the finish.
  • Use solvents with care, as they may stain, discolor, or erode the finish.
  • Thoroughly clean all surfaces, sides, corners, and nooks.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water, especially in crevices, to remove all residues. Improper rinsing can lead to etching or discoloration.
  • Dry everything with a clean microfiber cloth. For difficult issues, contact Stryker T-Tops or a local professional.

Powder Coating Care:

Regular washing with a solution of clean water and a mild detergent is the best method.

  • Clean the entire surface, including all nooks and corners, with a soft cloth or sponge, using nothing harsher than a natural bristle brush. This removes dirt, minerals, and residue that could scratch or etch the finish.
  • Rinse with clean water and dry with a microfiber cloth.
  • For heavy soiling, white spirit can be used, but ensure the surface is cool and out of direct sunlight. Always test in a less visible spot.
  • DO NOT use abrasive pads, steel wool, or other hard textured mediums, as they can permanently destroy the finish.
  • Specific "powder coating polish" products are available to polish and protect; follow manufacturer's instructions. For difficult issues, contact Stryker T-Tops or a local professional.
