Question and Answer IconNeed help?

Do you have a question about the Suburban DYNAPACK H Series and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Suburban DynaPack H Series is a vertical packaged air conditioner designed for indoor installation, featuring both gas-fired heating and electric cooling. It is certified by Intertek Testing Services to comply with national safety codes in the USA and Canada, and operates on natural gas. The unit is not certified for mobile home installation.

Function Description:

The DynaPack H Series provides both heating and cooling for residential or commercial spaces. It is designed to be installed in a closet or equipment room, with specific clearance requirements for proper operation and servicing. The unit uses outside air for combustion and vents exhaust products directly outside. The condensate drain system is designed for installation in a conditioned space to prevent freezing, with an optional heated P-Trap kit available for installations in freezing conditions.

Important Technical Specifications:

The DynaPack H Series is available in several models, including DYPA12AC1A039H, DYPA18AC1A039H, DYPA18AC1A052H, DYPA24AC1A039H, DYPA24AC1A052H, DYPA30AC1A039H, DYPA30AC1A052H, DYPA36AC1A039H, and DYPA36AC1A052H.

  • Heating Specifications:

    • BTU Input: 39,000 BTU (for 039H models) or 52,000 BTU (for 052H models).
    • Volts: 208-230.
    • Amps: 4.7.
    • Gas Connection: 1/2 inch pipe at unit.
    • Minimum Gas Supply Pressure: 5" W.C. (Water Column).
    • Maximum Gas Supply Pressure: 7" W.C.
    • Manifold Pressure: 3.5" W.C. for natural gas.
    • Recommended Heating Speed: High (for all models), with approximate CFM of 1000 and approximate temperature rise of 35°F or 45°F depending on the model.
  • Cooling Specifications:

    • Cooling Capacity: Ranges from 12,000 BTU (DYPA12AC1A039H) to 34,800 BTU (DYPA36AC1A052H).
    • Volts: 208-230.
    • Watts: Ranges from 1175 to 3480.
    • MCA (Minimum Circuit Ampacity): Ranges from 13.3 to 25.2.
    • Refrigerant: R410A.
    • Refrigerant Charge: See information sticker on unit.
    • Recommended Cooling Speed: Low (DYPA12AC1A039H), Medium Low (DYPA18AC1A039H, DYPA18AC1A052H), Medium (DYPA24AC1A039H, DYPA24AC1A052H), or High (DYPA30AC1A039H, DYPA30AC1A052H, DYPA36AC1A039H, DYPA36AC1A052H), with approximate CFM ranging from 400 to 1000.
  • Electrical Connections: Approved for copper conductors only. Wire sizing should be based on the unit's minimum circuit ampacity, wire type, and wiring method. For 208-volt systems, voltage drop should not exceed 2%. A disconnect switch should be installed near the unit.

  • Duct Work: Designed for low static pressure to reduce energy usage and noise. The unit can only be installed using factory-supplied wall sleeves, as the outdoor fan discharge or condenser air intake cannot be connected to field-fabricated ducting.

  • Air Filter: Equipped with a permanent, cleanable air filter. If a disposable filter is installed in the return air duct, the permanent filter must be removed. Minimum required surface area for disposable filters ranges from 288 to 480 square inches depending on the model.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: Requires a wall sleeve and grille, which must be securely attached to the wall opening. Gaskets on the wall sleeve ensure a continuous seal. Leveling legs are adjustable to ensure the unit is level.
  • Gas Piping: Requires a 1/2" pipe connection. Gas piping size should be based on the length of the run. A manual shut-off valve with a test port, a drip leg, and a ground joint union are required.
  • Control Wiring: A 5-conductor thermostat wire is recommended. Low voltage wiring must be kept separate from high voltage wiring.
  • Start-Up Procedure: Includes steps for checking gas connections, turning on electrical power, setting the thermostat for heating and cooling, and observing burner ignition and blower operation.
  • Heating Adjustments: Involves checking and adjusting inlet and manifold gas pressures, and verifying temperature rise across the furnace. The gas input rate can be calculated using a formula involving gas meter revolutions and heating value.
  • Cooling Adjustments: Primarily involves adjusting the blower speed to achieve a 20°F temperature drop across the unit.
  • System Performance: Factory tested for proper air conditioning performance. Refrigerant charge can be checked by measuring liquid subcooling (8-14 degrees subcooling at outdoor temperatures above 65°F).
  • Room Air Blower: Features a 5-speed motor for adjusting heating and cooling speeds. Controlled by the unit control board and wall thermostat, with built-in delay timings for comfort and energy efficiency.
  • Safety Limits: The furnace includes safety limits that operate when abnormal conditions are detected. These should not be tampered with.
  • High Altitude Operation: Certified to operate up to 4500 feet above sea level without modification. For installations above 4500 feet, technical service should be consulted.
  • Extreme Cold/Snowy Areas: In ambient temperatures consistently below 0°F, indoor comfort can be improved by adjusting the heating blower speed for maximum temperature rise. Units installed on the ground floor must have intake and exhaust above anticipated snowfall levels.

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety: Disconnect all electrical power before any maintenance.
  • Burners: Can be removed for cleaning or changing orifices by a qualified technician.
  • Heat Exchanger: Should be inspected periodically by a qualified technician and cleaned if necessary using a stiff brush to remove scale and soot. The vent extension tube should also be cleaned.
  • Cooling System: The refrigeration system is a closed, self-contained system requiring minimal maintenance.
    • Air Filter: Clean or replace monthly to maintain efficiency.
    • Condenser Coil: Clean if covered with foreign material, lint, leaves, or other obstructions.
    • Refrigerant Charge: For DYPA12 models, superheat can be checked by placing a thermometer on the compressor suction line and connecting a pressure gauge to the suction line pressure port.
