4.- OPERATION
4.1.- Operating limits
Table 1 shows the limits values for a correct
operation of SULZER towers type EWK.
4.2.- Initial start-up or starting after a long
period out of service
Before operating the tower, or after being a
long time out of service, it is necessary to
make the following inspection and cleaning
processes:
1. Eliminate all the dirt deposited on louvers,
fans and on the collecting basin.
2. Clean carefully the collecting basin, with
the filter assembled in it, finishing with an
abundant flush of water and finally empt-
ying it to evacuate the sludge accumulated.
3. Disassemble the filter, cleaning and reas-
sembling again.
4. Rotate the fan with the hand to make sure
that rotates freely.
5. If the tower has remained out of service
since its arrival to the site, for a 6 to 8
month period, or it has been stopped for a
similar period of time, before putting it in
operation the bearings of the fan and motor
shafts must be greased.
6. Check the operation of the filling valve.
7. Fill the collecting basin up to the overflow
level.
8. Regulate the float valve in order to close the
valve when the float is about 5-10 cm under
the overflow level.
9. Connect the fans and check if the direction
of turn coincides with what is indicated in
the casing with an arrow.
WARNING: Before starting the fan, ensure
that the water circuit is in operation to
avoid the fan to operate in no-load condi-
tion.
4.- FONCTIONNEMENT
4.1.- Limites de fonctionnement
Dans le tableau 1 les valeurs limite sont
indiquées pour un fonctionnement correct des
tours SULZER type EWK.
4.2.- Mise en fonctionnement initiale ou
après de longues périodes d´inactivité
Avant la mise en fonctionnement initiale où
après avoir été hors service pendant une lon-
gue période, on doit réaliser les procédés
d´inspection et de nettoyage suivants:
1. Éliminer toute la saleté déposée sur les per-
siennes, ventilateurs, et dans le bassin.
2. Nettoyer à fond le bassin, avec le filtre
monté, en finissant par un lavage à grande
eau et la vidange conséquente pour éva-
cuer les boues accumulées.
3. Démonter le filtre, le nettoyer et le monter à
nouveau.
4. Faire tourner le ventilateur manuellement
pour s´assurer qu´il tourne librement.
5. Si la tour est restée sans être mise en serv-
ice depuis qu´elle est arrivée au lieu de mon-
tage, durant une période de 6-8 mois, ou
bien si elle est restée arrêtée pendant une
période de temps similaire, il faudra graisser
les coussinnets des axes du ventilateur et du
moteur avant de la mettre en marche.
6. Contrôler le fonctionnement de la valve de
garnissage.
7. Remplir le bassin jusqu´au niveau du déver-
soir.
8. Régler la vanne à flotteur, pour que celle-ci
ferme quand le flotteur arrive à environ 5-10
cm au dessous du niveau du déversoir.
9. Connecter les ventilateurs et vérifier si le
sens de rotation correspond à celui indiqué
par la flèche qui se trouve sur la carcasse.
ATTENTION: Avant de mettre en marche le
ventilateur, s´assurer que le circuit d´eau
soit en fonctionnement, pour éviter que le
ventilateur tourne à vide.
