Overview

This document describes the SuperHandy Rear Tine Tiller, an agricultural machine designed for soil rototilling.

Function Description:

The SuperHandy Rear Tine Tiller is a gasoline-powered machine primarily used for tilling soil. It features a rear-tine design, which is generally preferred for breaking up hard soil and preparing seedbeds. The tiller's operation involves rotating tines that dig into and break up the soil. The machine is controlled by handles and a clutch mechanism that engages and disengages the tilling unit. A depth stake allows for adjustment of the tilling depth, and the handle height is also adjustable for user comfort. The tiller is designed for outdoor use in well-ventilated areas, emphasizing safety precautions related to fuel handling, engine operation, and interaction with rotating parts.

Important Technical Specifications (SKU# GUO116):

  • Engine: 7HP
  • Start Type: Recoil
  • Transmission: Sprocket Feed Gear+Belt
  • Speed: 1 Forward
  • Tines: 12
  • Tine Rotation Direction: Backwards
  • Tilling Width: 16 inches
  • Tilling Depth: 12 inches
  • Depth Stake Adjustment: 6 Positions
  • Tine RPM: 190 RPM
  • Tire: 13 inches

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The tiller comes partially assembled and requires the user to mount the handle support, wheels, rotary tines, engine protector, tine shield, rear shield, and handles. Specific instructions are provided for each step, including bolt and nut sizes. It is crucial to ensure correct installation of the tiller blades (not backward) and proper orientation of the tire inflation valve (outward).
  • Handle Height Adjustment: The tiller offers three different handle height adjustment positions, allowing users to customize it for comfort and ergonomic operation.
  • Tillage Depth Adjustment: The tilling depth can be adjusted by removing a square pin from the depth stake and repositioning it. Increasing the height of the depth stake results in deeper tilling, while lowering it leads to shallower tilling. A critical warning advises against adjusting the depth stake while the machine is in operation.
  • Starting the Engine: The starting procedure involves moving the fuel valve lever to ON, adjusting the choke (CLOSE for cold start, OPEN for warm start), setting the throttle lever to about 1/3 toward FAST, turning the engine switch to ON, and operating the starter.
  • Operating the Tiller: Once the engine is running, the tilling unit is engaged by squeezing the clutch handle. Releasing the clutch handle immediately stops the tilling unit. Users are warned not to touch the tines while rotating and never to secure the clutch handle in an engaged state, as this can lead to serious injury or product damage.
  • Stopping the Engine: To stop the engine, move the throttle lever to SLOW, let the engine idle for one to two minutes, turn the engine switch to OFF, and turn the fuel valve lever to OFF. In emergencies, the engine can be stopped by simply turning the engine switch to OFF.
  • Transferring Tiller: For moving the tiller without starting the engine, the O-pin can be attached individually to the axle, placing the wheels in neutral mode. This allows the tiller to be pushed freely. Before tilling, ensure the O-pins are in the drive mode to fix the wheels.
  • Fuel Safety: Emphasizes using approved fuel containers in well-ventilated outdoor areas, avoiding smoking or open flames near fuel, stopping and cooling the engine before refueling, never overfilling the tank, and securely replacing caps. Spilled fuel should be allowed to dissipate before starting the engine. Fuel and the machine with fuel in the tank should not be stored indoors where fumes could reach ignition sources.
  • Personal Safety: Advises against operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, wearing appropriate sturdy clothing (long pants, boots, gloves), securing long hair, keeping guards in place, ensuring all nuts and bolts are tight, and not operating a damaged machine. It also warns against touching hot parts, overreaching, or operating barefoot.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance: All maintenance and repairs must be performed with the engine switch in the OFF position, and the spark plug wire disconnected to prevent accidental starting. Servicing should be done by qualified personnel using approved replacement parts.
  • Cleaning: After each use, debris and wrapped material around the blades should be cleared to maintain efficiency and prevent damage.
  • Fasteners: Regularly check that all nuts and bolts are securely tightened, as engine vibrations can loosen them.
  • Engine Oil: Periodically check the engine oil level and ensure it is adequate for smooth operation. A warning states that operating with low oil levels can damage the engine and reduce its lifespan. The manual refers to the separate Engine Manual for specific oil recommendations.
  • Gear Oil: Before starting, 0.2-0.3 gallons of gear oil should be added to the gearbox. Insufficient gear oil can decrease efficiency and damage the tiller.
  • Spark Plug and Muffler: Regularly inspect and clean these components according to the manufacturer's guidelines and replace if damaged.
  • Belt System: The belt system must be in good condition and operate under proper tension to ensure optimum power transfer.
  • Belt Replacement:
    • Remove the belt cover by loosening four M8x20 bolts.
    • Loosen all four engine fastening bolts (M8x45 bolts) and M8 nuts, then remove the engine. Note: Ensure not to lose the two engine spacers.
    • Remove the belt cover by loosening three M8x70 bolts to access and replace the old belt.
    • After replacing the belt, reassemble the engine in the reverse order of removal.
  • Tine Replacement: When replacing tilling blades, always use identical replacements. The product has both left and right tilling blades, and incorrect installation will drastically reduce efficiency and may cause damage. The manual provides an exploded view of the tine assembly with specific fasteners (M10x25 Bolt, Flat Washer, Spring Washer, M10 Nut).
  • Storage: For storage longer than 30 days:
    • Drain the fuel tank completely to prevent stale fuel issues.
    • Run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor.
    • While the engine is warm, drain the oil and refill with fresh oil as recommended in the Engine Manual.
    • Clean the outside of the machine and ensure air vents are clear.
    • Inspect for loose or damaged parts and repair/replace as needed.
    • Store the unit on flat ground in a clean, dry, well-ventilated building.
    • A warning advises against storing the machine with fuel in a non-ventilated area where fumes could reach ignition sources.
    • Another warning advises lifting the machine using handles at the base of the plate to prevent damage or injury.

Warranty:

The product comes with a twelve (12) month warranty covering workmanship, excluding wearing parts. The warranty period starts from the purchase date and covers material quality and workmanship only. It does not cover issues caused by improper usage or operation not in accordance with the manual's specifications. Any modification or tampering voids the warranty.
