HEARING PROTECTION
HEARING PROTECTION
EP7 Sonic Defenders
®
Ultra
Two Levels of Protection Against Two Types of Noise
Filtered EP7 Sonic Defenders
Ultra
provide two levels of protection—
with their attached filter caps in or out—against two types of noise:
continuous noise (example: loud roar of an engine) and impulse noise
(example: gunshot). With the filter caps out of the noise-reducing
filters, loud potentially dangerous sounds (above 85dB) are lowered
while safe-level ambient sounds and conversations are allowed to
pass through and be heard. With the filter caps inserted, additional
hearing protection is afforded and ambient sounds and conversations
are blocked.
FOR PROTECTION WITH THE ABILITY TO HEAR AMBIENT SOUNDS,
leave filter caps out, or pry out with your fingernail if already inserted.
FOR MAXIMUM
PROTECTION OR SITUATIONS WHERE YOU DON’T WANT TO HEAR AMBIENT
SOUNDS, insert filter caps into filter holes and push in until snug.
NOISE ATTENUATION DATA
WARNING: Improper fit of this device will reduce its effectiveness in attenuating noise.
Follow instructions for proper fit. Failure to follow instructions could result in hearing loss
and/or injury. EP7 Sonic Defenders
Ultra
fit most people; however, no hearing protection
fits everyone. If proper fit cannot be achieved following instructions, discontinue use. Do
not use in environments with extreme air pressure or where abrupt pressure changes
occur. Foam-tipped EP7s should NOT be worn for swimming. For swimming use, we
recommend polymer flange-stemmed Sonic Defenders models.

Overview

The SureFire EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra are hearing protection devices designed to offer two levels of protection against continuous and impulse noise. They feature noise-reducing filters with attached filter caps, allowing users to choose between ambient sound awareness and maximum protection.

Function Description:

With the filter caps out, the EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra reduce loud, potentially dangerous sounds (above 85 dB) while allowing safe-level ambient sounds and conversations to be heard. This mode is ideal for situations where situational awareness is important. When the filter caps are inserted, additional hearing protection is provided, and ambient sounds and conversations are blocked, offering maximum protection or for situations where the user does not want to hear ambient sounds. The device is designed to fit most people, but proper fit is crucial for effectiveness.

Usage Features:

  • Two Levels of Protection: Users can choose between leaving filter caps out for ambient sound awareness or inserting them for maximum protection.
  • Impulse Noise Protection: Specifically designed to reduce the impact of sudden, loud noises like gunshots.
  • Continuous Noise Protection: Effective in attenuating constant loud sounds, such as engine roar.
  • Radio Communication System Use: An EP7 earplug can be converted into an earpiece for compatible radio communication systems by removing the noise-reducing filter and inserting the system's elbow connector. Note that this configuration provides a reduced level of hearing protection.
  • Lanyard Connectivity: The device includes a lanyard for secure attachment, preventing loss. Lanyard ends snap into small holes located beneath the noise-reducing filters.

Fitting Instructions:

  1. Roll the Comply™ Canal Tip of the color-coded (red for right) EP7 into a thin, round cylinder, ensuring not to unscrew the tip from the stem.
  2. With the EarLock® retention ring oriented slightly backward, rotate the earplug forward while inserting the foam tip deep into the right ear canal. Fit the retention ring to the natural contour of the concha bowl to lock the earplug in place. Hold for 15-30 seconds for the foam tip to fully expand.
  3. Check the earplug's seal by placing a fingertip over the outer hole of the filter and removing. A slight suction indicates a proper seal.
  4. Repeat the process with the white-filtered earpiece for the left ear.
  5. Test by clapping with filter caps out. If no noticeable decrease in volume, reinsert and retest.
  6. To block lower-level noise in quiet environments, insert the attached filter caps into the filter holes and push until snug.

Maintenance Features:

  • Comply™ Canal Tip Replacement: For optimal performance, the Comply™ Canal Tips should be replaced every 2-4 weeks or when soiled. Replacement involves unscrewing old tips, cleaning the earplug stems, and screwing on new tips until fully seated (do not overtighten). Both tips should always be replaced at the same time.
  • Cleaning: Earpieces should be cleaned with mild soap and water and allowed to air dry. Foam tips can be cleaned by wiping with a clean cloth and rinsing with water, then air dry.
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place in the included container. Avoid direct sunlight and extreme storage temperatures, which can cause filters to separate from stems. If separation occurs, filters must be reinserted.
  • Product Life: EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra typically last up to 6+ months, depending on usage and care. Replace earplugs when they become stiff and hardened.

Warnings and Important Notes:

  • Improper fit will reduce effectiveness. Follow instructions carefully to prevent hearing loss and/or injury.
  • Not all hearing protection fits everyone. Discontinue use if proper fit cannot be achieved.
  • Do not use in environments with extreme air pressure or abrupt pressure changes.
  • Foam-tipped EP7s should NOT be worn for swimming. Polymer flange-stemmed Sonic Defenders models are recommended for swimming.
  • Inserting filter caps negates the noise-reducing filters' ability to let ambient sounds and conversations pass safely through.
  • SureFire Hearing Protection products are warranted for 90 days from the date of purchase. The warranty does not cover consumables, normal wear-and-tear, or damage from abuse, alterations, unauthorized repairs, or use contrary to user manuals.
