4.6 Clearances to Combustibles
The clearances to combustibles indicated in Tables 1, 2 and 3 below must be respected. Failing to do so can result in a fire
or safety hazard.
CLEARANCE TO
COMBUSTIBLES
From the face of the fireplace
From the base of the fireplace
From the door of the fireplace
DISTANCE FROM THE BASE OF
THE FIREPLACE TO THE BASE
OF THE MANTLE (INCHES)
Width is measured from the face of the fireplace
door. When the non-combustible wall is recessed, the
width of the mantle can be increased by the amount
of the recess. For instance, if the wall is recessed by
4 inches the maximum width of the mantle at 49
inches high could be 6 inches. By the same analogy a
mantle at 62 inches high could be 12 inches wide.
DISTANCE FROM THE BASE OF
THE FIREPLACE TO THE BASE
OF THE MANTLE (INCHES)
Can accommodate a flat screen television.
NOTE: Material that is non-combustible may protrude around the fireplace.
Clearances to the front of the fireplace:
The minimum distance between the front of the fireplace and any combustible material is 5 feet, (152 cm).
Do not place such materials within this minimum distance in order to reduce risk of fire.
NOTE: Refer to section 4.2.1 on page 13 for gravity kit installation instructions and section 5.1 on page 22 for fresh air kit
installation.
